Who: Sam Winchester and Andy Gallagher
What: Sam tells Andy what really happened at Cold Oak
Where: The Church
When: Day 18, mid-afternoon
Rating: TBA
Status: Complete

The meeting with the management had not gone well. Sam had no more answers than he had upon waking up that morning. He still hadn't heard from Shannon or heard from anyone who had seen her since the return of the others and he was beginning to worry. He thought he knew her well enough to know that she would've at least dropped him a line to tell him she was alright, even if she didn't necessarily want to come back to the museum. She knew he worried and if she'd had access to her journal at all, she would've known that they'd though she was dead. Her not speaking up said something that Sam didn't really want to think about just yet.

He tried to push those thoughts back as he approached the church and the familiar blue van parked beside it. Even though the majority of those who had been believed to have died were back he had not changed his new attitude towards the "management" as they'd taken to calling themselves. He was going to stop lying and making promises he couldn't keep and he was finding a way out for all of them. There was no question about that. Andy needed to know the truth about what had happened in Cold Oak. He needed to know that he would have to protect himself against Ava in case actually breaking the glass wall or finding a way out of it resulted in each of them going back to their own times.

It was a conversation that he wasn't looking forward to, one that he'd very carefully managed to side step until now, but he felt like it was the right thing to do. He stopped a few feet away from the van and took a deep breath before reaching out and knocking on the back door.

There was no surprise in Sam's answer. Of course a guy like Sam had never smoked pot. He probably never drank anything in excess either and if he did, it was probably Pabst fucking Blue Ribbon, anyway. Andy had gotten the distinct first impression that Sam was a real, live, grown up straight edge, goody-goody motherfucker. Of course he wouldn't understand. "Big surprise. Maybe you should sometime. Unwind for a minute," he muttered mostly to himself.

"I'm fucking listening to you, Sam, but you're telling me two completely contradicting things," Andy said in a low, calm voice. "You're saying you won't kill me and you're saying I just need to hang out and hold onto my ass until you come to save it, but you're also saying that the whole reason we were there was to wipe each other out. You're forgetting that I know the reason Lily died is because she tried to get away without playing the game, so I don't know what makes you think we can escape doing anything other than what that yellow-eyed motherfucker wants." He said nothing in response to Sam's trying to say that he'd never said Andy would turn into Webber, because he knew that sentiment in particular was only going to go in circles. That was exactly what he was saying, Andy thought, and he wasn't going to just backpedal and have Andy buy into that shit. But on teh other hand, Andy didn't feel like going around and around about it.

Sam said they weren't freaks and Andy shook his head. "What the hell do you call it, then?" he asked softly, looking over at Sam with a drawn expression. "I know I do. I fuck hot blondes and I get stoned. That's how I deal with this place, Sam. Okay? I don't know what else to do other than try to forget. If you've got a better idea, please share."

When Sam apologized as well and said he wasn't trying to pick a fight, Andy shrugged. "Thanks, I guess," he replied. What else could he say? With a sigh, he picked up the bong again. "I'm having another. This is me dealing with an overload of unpleasant information. You can stay and chill or leave and either way, it's fine. Whatever you want, man, but I'm doing this," he said, patting the round bottom of the bong before reaching for his stash again.

Sam's face darkened at Andy's words, which he was still able to decipher despite the fact they were muttered, but he said nothing. Andy was upset and the truth was, so was Sam. Out of all the people here Sam needed Andy to know that he wasn't a killer. Not the way he'd been intended to be. He needed him to know that it wasn't inevitable, but Andy didn't seem to want to get that. He kept assuming the worst about Sam and that was pissing Sam off.

"I'm telling you," Sam said slowly, his voice low. "That Dean and Bobby find a way in. Which means there's a way out. Look Lily died because Ava made sure she did. I'm almost positive that was Ava, I remember her complaining of a headache before Lily went missing. We don't have to play that game if we don't want to. But we do have to stay together."

Sam let out a slow breath when Andy said he dealt with things by getting stoned and getting laid. "Must be nice," Sam said, his tone short but the words honest. How nice would it be just to let go for a moment of everything hanging over them in this place? How nice just to get lost in drugs or sex or whatever. Anything to forget for a second that they were in this hell hole and people were dying and there was nothing they could do about it. Control over himself was the last bit of control he had over anything. He minute he let it slip and who knew what could happen. Andy thought Sam didn't trust him and maybe deep down Sam didn't entirely, but he wanted to. He wanted to believe it was possible to avoid some kind of demon destiny put into motion over twenty years ago, that him fighting Jake and walking away wasn't some kind of fluke. What if this was all setting them up for a bigger fall though?

Sam swallowed, suddenly finding the van too small. He'd come and said what he needed to and maybe it was a shitty thing to leave Andy to his own thoughts but the truth was Sam didn't want to be there anymore than Andy wanted him there right at that moment. "I'll let you get to it, then," Sam said, glancing over at Andy. He opened the door and slid out of the van, pausing a moment before shutting the door.

He sighed. "Look, Andy," he said. "For what it's worth, I'm sorry I had to tell you all of this. And I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner." He pressed his lips together in an unhappy frown and then shut the door, sticking his hands in his pockets and walking away.
