Who: Sam Winchester and Andy Gallagher
What: Sam tells Andy what really happened at Cold Oak
Where: The Church
When: Day 18, mid-afternoon
Rating: TBA
Status: Complete

The meeting with the management had not gone well. Sam had no more answers than he had upon waking up that morning. He still hadn't heard from Shannon or heard from anyone who had seen her since the return of the others and he was beginning to worry. He thought he knew her well enough to know that she would've at least dropped him a line to tell him she was alright, even if she didn't necessarily want to come back to the museum. She knew he worried and if she'd had access to her journal at all, she would've known that they'd though she was dead. Her not speaking up said something that Sam didn't really want to think about just yet.

He tried to push those thoughts back as he approached the church and the familiar blue van parked beside it. Even though the majority of those who had been believed to have died were back he had not changed his new attitude towards the "management" as they'd taken to calling themselves. He was going to stop lying and making promises he couldn't keep and he was finding a way out for all of them. There was no question about that. Andy needed to know the truth about what had happened in Cold Oak. He needed to know that he would have to protect himself against Ava in case actually breaking the glass wall or finding a way out of it resulted in each of them going back to their own times.

It was a conversation that he wasn't looking forward to, one that he'd very carefully managed to side step until now, but he felt like it was the right thing to do. He stopped a few feet away from the van and took a deep breath before reaching out and knocking on the back door.

Andy's eyebrows raised just slightly with doubt as he took another hit. Sam said that the reason they were in Cold Oak was to wipe each other out. Sam was alive. That meant he'd wiped everyone else out, in the end. At least, the way Andy saw it. Ava might've taken care of Andy and Jake might've done the dirty work on Ava, but Sam was the last one standing. Logically, he'd killed Jake. In the real world, Sam owed Andy no loyalty, really. They knew nothing about one another that they hadn't already had in common. There wasn't anything keeping Sam from taking him out if things had gone down differently.

So, as he let out the inhalation of cannabis and stared back out the front window again, Andy shook his head. Sam said he wouldn't kill Andy. The hell he wouldn't. Andy didn't want to admit it, but if it meant the difference between life and death, he'd have killed Sam. Maybe not now, after being in this place and getting to know the other man better and possibly even beginning to consider him a friend, but back there? He'd killed his own brother to save the life of someone he hadn't even known. Webber had been his friend and Andy had killed him to save Dean Winchester - some guy he'd hardly known at all. What the hell would've stopped him from killing Sam to save his own life? Nothing. So, as grim a thought as it was, he was sure Sam was lying just as much as he would've been if he'd said the same.

"What was his thing?" Andy finally asked after a long pause. "He never said." The rest of what Sam said didn't go completely ignored, but Andy also did not respond to it. He'd already started wondering if he'd finally figured out what everyone here had had in common. They were all doomed for death back in the real world. Not just someday in their sleep, no. Maybe they were all doomed to a somewhat immediate death where they came from and so whoever brought them here figured they were being done a favor by being allowed to live, even if for some fucked up experimentation. And then, when the people running the show were finished with them, it was no big deal if they were murdered and left for their friends to find, because they should've already been dead, anyway. Andy's eyes closed. That was a horrible thought, of course, but the worst part was that he was pretty sure, the more he mulled it over, that he wasn't wrong.

Sam watched Andy carefully as he exhaled and then shook his head. He knew this was a lot for someone to be dealing with at once. He fought the urge to reach out and put a hand on Andy's shoulder. Considering he'd just basically assumed that Sam had killed Jake he didn't know how much of a comfort that would be for Andy.

Sam swallowed, his stomach feeling queasy at the memory of the hatred that had flooded through him as he pulled that trigger over and over again. He wasn't going to make the same mistake twice.

"Super strength," Sam said, his voice low. "But later he was able to use the mind control." Sam shook his head and looked down at his hands. "Ava said it was like switches flipping. Once you open yourself up..." He licked his lips and looked back at Andy. "That's why I don't think it's safe to use it. Unless you have to. It changes you. Or maybe it doesn't. I mean we were all groomed to be a potential leader. Maybe the capability is in all of us."

Sam sighed. "I don't know," he said slowly. "I just know that when you get back, you're in trouble and you need to be prepared in case you have to defend yourself. I'm close. I heard Ava's scream, so if you yell I'll come running. I promise."
