Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:!complete, day 18, location: museum, rose tyler, the doctor (nine)

Who:  The (Ninth) Doctor & Rose Tyler (And eventually Remus Lupin)
Where: In their small office bedroom, in the museum.
When: Day 18: 6:15PM
What:  The Doctor comes back, Rose has questions.
Rating: PG
Status: Complete

The Doctor had spent most of his rainy day at the petrol station, taking apart the gas pumps-- well, he'd only taken apart just one, taking out small pieces, large pieces, and leaving it strewn everywhere. There was no gas of course, so there wasn't any reason to worry. At least, there had been no gas in the one he'd taken apart. He had managed to gather up a lot of small items, enough to make a portion of a sonic modulator, in the hopes he could resonate the glass and well.. shatter it. At least put a big crack in it. He'd meet back up with Ten sometime later tonight and present him with the portion of the modulator that he was working on. it wouldn't take them much longer to make a complete one, if they kept going at this pace.

He had thrown the parts all into a small backpack he'd found at the thrift store, for easy carrying. It was slung over his shoulder at the moment, as he ducked his way into the museum then headed for the door that led into the office that he, Rose, and the werewolf were all sharing. The same room he'd offered to Jack tonight, if he wanted it. It hadn't been any surprise that he'd been turned down. The handle was twisted and he stepped inside, eyebrows lifting and smile appearing as he saw Rose there. "Look at you! Right where you belong. A little wet, though. You're lucky one of us thinks about those things." Even as he said it, he was lowering the bag to the ground. The desk was gone from the office, pushed out of the room, along with the chair, to give them as much floor space as possible. Then he was crouching down and tugging out a t-shirt and some jeans, tossing them in her direction. "I thought about grabbing.. other things.." A bra and underwear, he meant, "But decided this would work just as well." He tugged out a towel and tossed it her way as well, to dry her bra and underwear, if she needed. The leather jacket was tugged off, it'd kept his torso dry, though his pants were a little wet. And the jacket was hung on a hook in the wall, once used for a picture.

He was so damned cheerful she just wanted to throw the clothing right back at him. Quite frankly, she was enjoying being wet and slightly cold. And she didn't need to be told she was right where she belonged. That, honestly, only made it worse.

Her eyes narrowed and she sat with the t-shirt and the jeans in her lap. One glance down at them and her first argument was open for discussion. "An extra, extra, extra large, Doctor? Honestly? Do you even look at me? Ever?"

She used the towel, but only to rub through the damp ends of her hair. Her hoodie had been good at keeping her head dry for the most part, but she'd given it up later in the day as it got too wet to even be comfortable.

"And I'm not a dog, either. You don't say sit and stay and expect me to listen."

With the sudden outburst about the size of the clothes, the Doctor laughed a little, almost a nervous sound, but he was stopped short by her asking if he looked at her, ever. And his smile slowly faded, watching as she violently dried her hair, then dug into him again with the dog comment.

But then, his smile had certainly disappeared and he was left just staring at her almost in disbelief. Where had all of this anger and sudden aggression come from? What had he done? He didn't even know! But unprovoked anger never sat well with this regeneration, and now was no different. His disbelief quickly changed into a defensive expression and he narrowed blue eyes slightly on her. "I did the best I could with what was left in the shop. And no, Rose, I don't ever look at your.. size." He did, actually, but wouldn't admit it. That meant he had some sort of non-platonic feelings for her, didn't it? And he didn't. Definitely not. Nope.

"And I'm not calling you a dog, I was just happy to see you were safe and sound. I come back, and here you are, and I'm happy to see you, and you start off with this? I thought I told you to leave the domestics outside." The Doctor didn't do domestics. And this? This was a domestic. In the most literal sense.

Her temper tantrum was mostly unfounded, she knew. If the Cajun's words were correct, the Doctor wouldn't even become involved in his life for years to come. After 'Rose's time', so to speak. He'd said she'd had her time and now it was his. So in fairness, the Doctor hadn't exactly done anything wrong yet, really.

But he would. Sometime in the future, he was going to leave her behind and take off with the lanky Cajun. And it wasn't fair. She'd thought they... Well, maybe they hadn't. Maybe she'd read too much into it. And the fact that he'd all but admitted to not taking notice of her proved that.

"Domestics?" she scoffed, rolling her eyes northward. "You're really going to go there? You just admitted you don't even... You're such a..." Why didn't he just leave her right then and there if it was going to come to that? "Alien or not, you're such a typical male!"

Which, in Rose world, was a brilliant sort of insult.

In the Doctor's world, it was a compliment. She had, after all, just months ago implied that he wasn't a man, as she'd been going on about Jack Harkness. And now here she was, calling him a male. Two insults of the same sort, meaning two completely different things. Oh, it was so hard to keep track some times!

"I don't even what? Look at you? You're my companion, Rose. I said I'd bring you back to Jackie, not leer at you incessantly through our journeys. Don't you ever get tired of men looking at you the way they... look at you?" Of course the Doctor noticed! He noticed, and he hated it. He hated the way Jack looked at her. He hated the way all men looked at her. But he let it happen, because she wasn't his. She'd never be his. It didn't work that way. "We're not going to do this, not here. There are more important things going on than whether or not I.. look at you. Which I don't." Yes he did.

She rolled her eyes yet again, attempting to control the raging fury that was one angry Rose Tyler. "You don't have to leer at me to at least notice I'm not the size of an elephant." A blush crept into her cheeks when he mentioned men looking at her in any sort of way. Her eyes dropped to the ground in front of her and she shrugged. "I can't help how people look at me, Doctor. But you could at least notice I'm not monstrous in size."

For a moment she almost added, 'it's important to me'. But she couldn't. That might imply more than she meant it to. And she certainly didn't need him thinking that, not with everything else going on.

More important things. Funny you should mention that, Doctor. "Are you immortal?" she blurted.

"I know you're not, you're petite and thin and pretty and.." Said too much, Doctor. "Well, you're not an elephant. But that's what I could get you, so that's what you got. And they're not extra, extra large, Rose, the pants are a size ten and the shirt is a large. Isn't that a look now? Grunge or something? Or is that just the states?" Lord if he knew.

Though, he did pause when she asked if he was immortal and he slowly looked up at her, keeping his silence for a long few seconds before finally responding. "No, not immortal. But I recall telling you I am nine hundred.. a little older, actually," Timey Whimey stuff.. don't ask. "But.. if things keep going on as they have, I could very well live into the thousands. Knew a Time Lord once, lived to be fifteen thousand years old. That's old, even by our standards." They had a life span, of course.. but even their regenerations ran out some time, no one could live forever. Except Jack, now, thanks to you, Rose.

The smile that crossed her face when he described her was tiny, but at least it was there. At least she'd be comfortable, and when having to sleep in the same things you wore all day, you grew to appreciate that. "Grunge is disgusting. But it's been so long since my hair's had a proper washing, I may start to look it anyway."

She listened to the story. Fifteen thousand. That answered the question. Sort of.

But Remy was from a time before hers. What the hell?

"I know how old you are," she reminded him. "Mum said there was an age difference but I don't think she had that in mind." She was flicking her tongue over her lower lip as she thought carefully. "I just...how do you die? I mean... You look, what, forty? You didn't pop out of your mum or however Time Lords come into the world looking forty, did you? Do you age? I mean...assume we're still doing this traveling thing in...twenty years." A good guesstimate. How long before he dumped her? "Are you still going to look the same? Are you going to look forty-five instead?"

Oh, Rose, you were asking him questions that he could have answered for you weeks ago, but that were so much harder to answer now. She'd put two and two together, she was too clever for her own good. But he wouldn't lie to her.. so that meant he had to avoid it.

"We're born the same way humans are, we start as children, we develop into adults.. and our bodies will live on for a very, very long time. We age, of course, but it's a very slow process. And there is an ultimate age that the body can reach, before it just dies on its own, without any trauma. But the Time Lords came up with a way to.. cheat death, as you will. It makes our already long lives twelve times as long, if we're careful. But we aren't always. And if you die too quickly, like in an explosion or you're beheaded, anything like that, the cheat doesn't work, and the body just dies." There, that should satisfy her curiosity, right? "So no, in twenty years, hypothetically, if nothing happened to this body, I wouldn't look forty-five, I'd look just as you see me now, daft as ever." He opened his arms with a smile.

Part of her was tempted to run into those arms. To cling and refuse to let go and tell him that if he wanted anyone else they'd have to get through her first.

But that was a bit creepy, and after the morning she'd had, she wanted to be anything but creepy. So instead she just gave a small smile and a shrug. "You don't look daft, shut up," she chided, but she was giving him a peculiar look. "If nothing happened to that body? So if something did? Like...I don't know, if you were shot or electrocuted or something? Then what?"

Why hadn't she asked all of this before? It was natural to wonder when traveling with an alien who was going on a thousand years old. Why was it just now occurring to her to ask? Stupid place and its stupid spare time that let her think.

"Then I use my cheat, and I regenerate." Regenerate, it could mean all manner of things. Maybe he just.. grew back the injured pieces, like a star fish. That was what it implied.. and it was true, sort of. He grew back another body, and he never really knew what he was going to end up looking like.

"So that I can be back in one piece and healthy and ready for the next adventure." There, that had to answer your question right, Rose? "It's sort of like starting over again, in a fresh body." Not that she'd have any reason to suspect that the body wouldn't look identical, like having your car totaled, and then getting an identical one to replace it. That was surely what it was, right? Right. Who went around just changing their face? No one.

Fair enough. At least he was being honest with her. She appreciated that more than she could say at the moment. The day had been full of lies and twists and hints at half-truths.

She grew quiet, imaginging him losing a leg to some leg-eating monster and watching it grow back. He'd mentioned a whole new body. What must that be like? And what sort of injury would cause him to need one? Possibly the electrocution she'd mentioned. No playing her iPod in the TARDIS shower, got it.

Absently, she chewed on the thumbnail on her left hand as she considered how to ask her next question. "Before me...did you... I mean, were you alone?" Rose's time. Remy's time. Who else had had time? And how had it ended? But she couldn't ask that. Not yet. Not without throwing a fit.

"Before you?" He lifted his eyebrows some.. then lowered blue eyes to the ground, and finally around the room as he considered how to answer her question. Finally, blue came back to rest on hazel. "For a long time, yes. During the Time War, after the Time War, until I found you, I was alone. A long time, Rose." Well, long for a human.. not too long for a Time Lord, though it felt longer, with nothing but hate and rage and death as his companions.

"I've taken others with me, shown others the universe. Many of them are dead now. Either from old age or.. something else." Rose knew what 'something else' could mean. "Rarely more than one at a time, but it's happened before." As she well knew, since they'd taken Jack along with them, and Rose's untrustworthy boyfriend whose name wasn't even one the Doctor could recall, just months later. "I only take the best. I said it and I meant it." What did any of this have to do with anything?

She wanted to tell him. There was little she didn't tell him, really. He knew her inside and out, better than anyone else she knew. She told him more than Jack, more than Mickey, more than even her own mother, and they were close as far as mothers and daughters went. It only felt right that he knew this part of her, the scared and worried part that was terrified to lose him.

But if she told him...then what? Would that change their future together? Would he escort her right off to nowhere? Would that stop him from somehow, somewhere picking up the Cajun who'd ripped her heart out and shown it to her only hours before?

The problem was, she didn't want him to be alone, either. He'd been so angry when she'd met him. It had taken a long time to find out why, but she had and she never wanted him to feel that way again. "You know... You know you can tell me anything, right?" she said quietly, turning her eyes away from his. She had no idea what he'd read behind the scared expression she carried at the moment. "I mean, if you ever wanted to."

"I know that, Rose." But he couldn't. Not really. It was complicated.. but he knew that he could tell her anything within reason and that she'd keep his secrets, and his feelings, with her life. "And you know that goes both ways." It wasn't a question, but a statement. And he was reaching out to pull that worn coat from the hook on the wall, give it a quick shake, and hand it out to her.

"Put dry clothes on, warm yourself up, or you'll catch cold." And being sick in a place like this wasn't going to be fun for anybody.

"What's got you so worked up?" It was time to keep up your part of 'telling him anything', Rose.

She didn't answer right away. First she gathered up the denims abd t-shirt and made her way to what had likely been a storage closet during the museum's heyday. She changed quickly, wondering why she was so willing to comply now when she'd been so argumentative on his arrival.

When Rose returned to the room, she was trying to smile. The expression was weak, though. She curled up in the warmth of the offered coat, feeling smaller than usual.

"I talked to...someone today. Someone who said they knew you. But not the you from now. Future you.". She swallowed hard. "And future you doesn't have me."

"Oh, is that what it is?" He smiled though, which may have been a strange expression for the conversation.. but it also indicated that there wasn't anything wrong. The Doctor didn't smile to cover things up, he only smiled when he felt it. Granted, sometimes he felt it when he was running for his life, or when some very strange, potentially dangerous things were happening..

But mostly, it was a good sign, that smile. "Any events of the future me, I can't vouch for, I'm just about as much in the dark about that as you are." Just about. "But I can tell you, Rose Tyler, that I could know them from hundreds and hundreds of years in my future, long after your human body has given up." Comforting, Doctor. "And just because it happens in my future, doesn't mean that the person would be from your future. The TARDIS is a time machine," He reminded her simply, eyebrows raising closer to his hairline. "I can go back in time and meet your mother in her teens, if I so wished it. Which I don't," His eyebrows lowered back down then, as he took on a thoughtful look. "No, really don't."

"Just think, you could be my real dad," she teased, a giggle in her voice. "That the real reason you're toting me around, Pop? Felt guilty for the years you were gone?" Of course, she knew he wasn't. She'd seen Pete Tyler before he died and she looked as much like him as she did Jackie. That and he and her mother most definitely didn't get along. And that was on a good day.

She considered how much else to tell him. The day had been so bloody fool of insanity that she didn't even know where to start. "I did meet someone from my future, though," she said quietly, thinking it over. "Said he knew me from some time before now. Have I ever mentioned how completely deranged this time thing is?" It made her head spin and her stomach queasy, and she pulled the coat more snugly around her as she sat back down and leaned against the wall.

He hadn't answered the most important question running through her head; would he ever just up and leave her behind?

Rose got a flat look for her words about him being her father. But all the same, he was coming closer and briefly inspecting his coat on her. It actually looked quite good, but he wasn't going to say a thing about it, only turned and moved to sit down next to her, there on the floor, back against the wall.

"Who did you meet from your future?" He prompted, not imagining it could be himself. No, he wouldn't have told her that he knew her in the 'future', that was crazy. Right?

He'd done crazy things before... especially for Rose. "Who's here that said they knew you from the future?" Which one of these people could know her? Maybe Sarah Jane.. Jack-- no, Jack knew her now. Ianto Jones. Maybe the Cajun had met her in the future? No, that was impossible, he wasn't a time traveler and.. well. Okay, it wasn't impossible.

He'd said she could tell him anything and she believed him. Almost absently, she rested her head on his shoulder, breathing in the scent of rain that still lingered between the two of them. Moments like this were what she liked best. When he took care of her, even if it was in that possessive sort of way.

She'd just leave out details was all. "John. You know, the doctor from...wherever. Flighty sometimes, that one. Said we meet in London sometime in the future." There was no way she was telling him what had happened after the revelation. Nope. That bit she wanted to keep to herself for a while. She could see telling Tonks, maybe, or even Jack. But not the Doctor. Not yet. Maybe not ever as possessive as he sometimes got.

Glancing up at him, Rose gave a teasing smile, her tongue peeking out between her teeth. "You were there, it seems. Saving the world and all. You know, typical you stuff."

"John Smith told you that?" His eyebrows went up and he looked aside at her with a more stern sort of look, before he turned his head and looked at the door. He'd told her. It was like giving Nancy Drew all of the clues and then hoping she wouldn't figure it out on her own! Hadn't they agreed that he was going to stay away from her? Hadn't they agreed that it was best for everyone involved if she stayed just his?

They had discussed this.

"Me, saving the world?" Finally, that cheeky smile returned. "Doesn't sound like me." That was almost a tease. "And while I was saving the world, you were off flirting with suited blokes?"

Rose turned pink at his comment about her flirting. "I don't flirt with everything that moves, you know," she scolded, resuming her place against his arm. It felt strange, laying her cheek against soft t-shirt fabric instead of the buttery leather of his jacket, which she now wore. It was actually quite comfortable. No wonder he wore it everywhere. Good luck getting it back, Doctor.

"Course you saved the world," she chided, a smile on her lips. "You're good at it. And I tagged along and looked cute so of course there was flirting. When I look so adorable and helpless with this great guy beating up the bad guys, who could resist me?" Now she was definitely teasing. Despite the occasional admiring looks she received, Rose's confidence wasn't on the same level as, say, Jack's. She knew she was cute, maybe even pretty. But she certainly didn't think of herself as the type who could attract everyone.

She considered his words, though. "Think he always wears the suit? He wasn't today, but that's cause it was wet." Oh, Rose. Why not just put a big sign over your head that says, 'I find that suited bloke sort of attractive, maybe'? It'd probably do you about as much good.

He listened with a smile as she went on about him being good at saving the world, and her tagging along with him, her looking helpless, him being a great guy and beating up the bad guys-- and of course, the comment about no one being able to resist her. That smile stayed easily.

Until she asked about John and the suit. It was then that the smile faded and Nine looked back at the door again. Couldn't you see what you were doing to him, Rose? The Doctor was tough, that was true.. but his heart right now, was frail. Too frail. And you had torn it from his chest months ago and stuck it in your pocket. And right now? You were smashing it with a hammer, over and over again.

"Rose," He began after a few seconds, "I.." You what, Doctor? You were going to have to fess up. Going to have to say something, if you wanted to keep her for yourself. You were going to have to do something, going to have to fight to keep her. If you wanted her, if you loved her, you had to tell her. And you had to do it now.

The Doctor just smiled some again. "He seems like the suit type."

He what? She hated when he did that. Started to turn all serious on her and then just...stopped. It was those moments that always made her wonder. And then he did something stupid, like calling humans stupid apes or get on to her for so much as talking to some interplanetary bloke or go rescue some beautiful female, and she stopped wondering. It wasn't like that between them. Maybe she was foolish to think it ever would be.

Rose released a slow breath, placing her hand on his arm. "When we get out of here? And we're so getting out of here. You have to take me some place completely brilliant to make up for all this nonsense." And for the fact that her head constantly felt like it was spinning here. And the fact that she always felt like something was going over her head. And she really, really hated it. "Isn't there some planet with hot springs and cheap facials? Why haven't you taken me to a spa-having planet yet? I think it's about time."

The hand that lay on his arm moved around to hold it close, clinging him to her. Things were so messed up right now.

"When you leave here, you'll be leaving with Jack, not me." Jack or John, that was, but the Doctor didn't want to mention John, lest she go on about how cute his hair was, or how nice his tie was, or.. He let out a slow breath and shifted his legs, pulling them in as he prepared to stand.

Could you hear that noise, Rose? That was your Doctor's heart breaking.

"No complaints. No questions. You just have to do what I tell you, it's important. Do you understand that?" He turned his head to finally look at her, but before she could question it, he explained himself.. sort of. "I'm from your future, Rose Tyler. Not long. Just hours. But it's long enough. You've got to go back to where you belong, and I've got to go back to where I belong, and we can't go together." Well, if that didn't sound ominous, nothing did.

No. No, no, no. Did he realize what he was doing? He was confirming her worst fears. "What are you talking about?" she asked, horror seeping from her tone. "You wouldn't..." He'd leave her. He would honestly leave her. Remy had been right. Somehow, John had missed his mark. It couldn't have been the Doctor she'd saved the world with because he was going to hand her over. In fact, he made it sound like he never wanted her around again.

"Jack's from after my time, too," she reminded him. Rose wasn't stupid, boys, she'd figured that much out. The moment Jenny had mentioned the TARDIS had come from a point in time where it hadn't been sitting outside the Powell Estate, she'd figured out that she and her friends could've been taken from entirely different points. "So I suppose this means I won't be returning with him, either, doesn't it? I'm going to be alone."

"No, you're not going to be alone." That was said more firmly. "You're going to be with me. You're going to be with me for a long time, Rose. But not this version of me. You'll upgrade." That word came with a twisting sort of smile, it was almost bitter, but not quite. There was something else behind it. Regret, maybe? Finally, the Doctor was pushing to stand. "I only take the best.. and you should only travel with the best. And you will. You're going to see great things, amazing things. I promise. And I'll take you across the galaxy and keep you with me, I won't ever leave you behind." His hands ached to push into jacket pockets, but there were none to be had.

"Not ever." He could promise her that, because he knew he lost her another way. He knew there was nothing he could do. Spoilers, Doctor.. but he knew this place existed outside of time. And it had been so very long since he'd felt. And he wanted to feel. He wanted to feel for Rose. He wanted to tell her everything he felt, everything he wanted to feel.

"Have you seen your wolf? He's gone missing, has he?" But he didn't.

An upgrade? What? Another version of him? She hated when he refused to make sense. And the day had been so confusing already that she had no urge to ask questions. Let some digest, then go for others. And all of this? Would take plenty long to digest. Her head physically hurt from all the thoughts running through it.

She longed to blurt out that someday, she did get left behind. She had no idea how or why, but she knew it would happen. Maybe she would up and die on him. Get withered and old, or worse, be killed in some fantastically brilliant accident. She longed to blurt out that she needed him, that she didn't want anyone or anything else, just him, the way he was. There for her, always.

But then the subject changed to Remus and she smiled slightly. "Don't call him that. He's just a boy right now. He'll only be a wolf at the full moon." Honestly, she hadn't seen Remus since they'd turned in those blasted surveys. Where was he? He was as bad about running off as she was!

How'd that feel, Rose? Having someone always running off on you? Frustrating, wasn't it? Worrying about them when they were Lord Knew where. Your poor Doctor went through that constantly with you. Not only now, but in the future, too. But he still cared about you, and though he often acted like he was annoyed, he'd go through Hell and back for you. You had to know that.

"Right, right." He waved a hand then to say it didn't matter. "Still, he's your responsibility, isn't he? And you should know where he is. He could be dangerous." And he was letting you take care of him. Look at that, he'd given you some responsibility, Rose, whether you realized it or not.

Oh, she knew where he was going with that. Always on about her running off on her own. But this place wasn't half as dangerous as some of the ones he'd dragged her off to. At least, not unless you were being poked and prodded, and so far that seemed to happen only at night. Remus was nearly an adult, and wise beyond his sixteen years. She trusted him.

"Oh, please. He's not a danger to anyone until at least sundown. And Selene and I, I hear she's a friend of yours," she added, giggling a bit at the reminder of Selene's description of him, "we spent part of today looking for a place for him. For safety." She got to her feet, then, slipping out of his jacket and dropping it over his shoulders. "Ought to look for him, just in case. He might be out falling in love with girls far too old for him." Or Tonks could be giggling about his older self to him. Oh, dear.

Rising to her toes, she placed a light kiss against his cheek. Just a quick reminder that leaving him was not something she wanted to do.

At the mention of Selene, the Doctor's eyebrows went up. She'd been talking to Selene? "She is a friend of mine. And I'd advise you to not be alone with her, either. She could be dangerous too, though I'm sure she wouldn't mean to be. But vampires can't always decide when they want to feed if they're starving to death." Yes, Rose, you'd heard him, he'd said vampire. Selene was a vampire.

"But yeah, I think it'd be a good idea for you to go on out and find him, don't want older women climbing all over him, after all. He did have that adorable 'I need someone to take care of me' charm, and I know how you women all fall for that routine." It was a joke, of course, and when she leaned up to kiss his cheek, he broke into a wide smile and lifted his eyebrows closer to his hairline. "Go on then, find your lost puppy."

Rose smiled smugly when he mentioned her predicament with Selene. As if she didn't know. Please, Doctor, the girl could wrangle a secret out of a nun with a vow of silence, what made him think she couldn't talk to a vampire? "She's not starving to death, though. Not yet. And I think we should figure out a way to help, too. Course, I know nothing about making synthetic blood and there's not enough rabbits to sustain her, but there's got to be something we can do."

She went to leave, but then turned back around and lightly swatted his arm. "And he's not a puppy, quit calling him that! And we do not fall for the 'someone take care of me look'. Honestly, Doctor, for someone who's been around as long as you have, I wonder if you know a thing about women." Her grin was bright, however, as she leaned in the doorway, beaming at him. No, Remy, he wasn't leaving her anytime soon. You could just go on and get over yourself.

The Doctor smiled proudly when she didn't act surprised. Oh, his little companion was growing up so fast! She was so smart! And he was pushing both hands deep into his pockets as she turned to leave. "Good. Go find him. And take care of our vampire problem while you're at it. Maybe do both. And I'll have you know, I do know a thing about women. They like shoes." He was teasing you, Rose Tyler, and it was evident in his voice and the way he flashed you that smile.

"Now get going. I'll be here when you get home with him. Off with you then." He was letting you do your own thing, Rose. Giving you some freedom. Look at that. Enjoy it while it lasted, because it wouldn't last long.
