Log: Gansey & Wynonna
The familiar noise of a DOA Patrol bringing someone in brought his eyes up, and Gansey went into friendly and welcoming mode as he stood. He didn’t hold out his hand, he’d gotten into the habit of not offering handshakes when half of the arrivals didn’t even know what the greeting was.
But he did smile, and give a little awkward wave. A return - but he didn’t know if Wynonna would remember this place. “Welcome to Vallo. I’m Gansey, I’m here to answer questions and give you a little information if you’d like it.”
When she’d arrived, however it was that she’d arrived, she found herself somewhere in a forest. Or at least it looked like a forest. She supposed if she’d actually managed to find the Garden then a forest would be appropriate, though not entirely what she had expected. Except it didn’t take long for someone to find her and somehow talk her into following them to… a police headquarters? No. It was some sort of Department though and she clearly had a look of annoyance written on her features at the boy that had just stood up. He couldn’t have been old enough to work here, right?
“Uh, hi. Yeah, I have a couple of questions. One, what the hell is Vallo and two where the hell is Vallo?” She wished that she still had Peacemaker on her, feeling very out of her comfort zone right now without it sitting at her hip. “How did I end up in this place? Is this Hell? I finally kicked the bucket and ended up in Hell, right?”
The hell question was one they got frequently enough that it made Gansey laugh quietly. He took a seat at his desk and gestured to the open chair near it, but ultimately shook his head. “Not Hell, I promise.” He bit his tongue to avoid mentioning that they did have Lucifer and Sabrina here, though. Not the time, Gansey.
“The easiest explanation is that Vallo is another world. I know, I know. We aren’t sure how Outlanders end up here, and we don’t know how to send people home. We,” He gestured around the office space, “were established by others like you and me, arriving without really knowing what’s going on and lost. Vallo is home to a lot of people from here, and can be a culture shock for people.”
She took pause and listened to what he had to say, her expression shifting from annoyance to something akin to mild shock. But when she did speak, her voice was hushed. “What. The actual fu-” she cut herself off, closing her eyes and lowering her head briefly while she stewed over what he’d just said. Another world. Clearing her throat to show she was keeping her composure (as much as she could), she finally looked back up at him.
She didn’t take a seat, but stood behind it, hands firmly grasping the chair as she stared him down. “So you have no idea how I ended up here? None? I mean, did I accidentally touch a rock in the Scottish highlands and transport myself to another time or what’s the deal?” Making the reference was her way at attempting a joke to keep herself calm, but it was hardly working and she let out a huffy sort of breath as she ran a hand back through her hair. “Shit,” she breathed. “Okay. I’m stuck here. That’s basically what you’re telling me.”
Gansey’s gaze was sympathetic as he let her adjust on her own schedule, patiently waiting as she worked through it. This was the time when he always wished he had more answers, and Ronan’s video filled in a lot of them but that came after a few questions were answered. “I’m afraid so. We do have people that actively research arrivals and departures, and the magic of this place - it’s how we knew you were here - so the hope is that someday we’ll figure out a way to send people home who wish it.”
He pulled out a new arrival folder and put it on the desk, open, where she could see. He preferred staying open and honest as much as he could. “In the meantime, if you’re willing to tell me your name, age, and species, we can give you an apartment to live in and an arrival stipend of a thousand dollars? We know it can be a big ask for people to share information, so there’s no pressure to do so.”
There was so much information being thrown at her that she absolutely did not want to hear that she didn’t really know how to process any of this. Go with the flow, Wynonna. When the folder was opened on the desk in front of her, she looked down at it for a hard moment before looking back up at him. “Look, dude. What did you say your name was again? Sorry. Um. I don’t know you and I’m pretty freaked out right now. Obviously there’s a whole story and I really ended up here at a super bad time. Do you have any, uh, coffee or anything? Do you guys drink that here?”
She could really use a strong cup of coffee right about now to help her brain sort through what was happening. “Or whisky? I’d even take whisky. I’d definitely take whisky.” She paused again and looked back down at the folder, a little hint of worry causing her eyebrows to furrow this time. “The name’s Wynonna. Earp. I’m old enough and last I knew I was a human, but my little sister ended up being half-angel so who even knows at this point, right?” She took in a shaky breath and finally looked up at him again. There were too many emotions and she didn’t know what to do with any of them. “Since you guys keep track of everyone that shows up here, if I gave you some names would you be able to tell me if you recognize any of them?”
“Gansey-” He knew he didn’t really have to say his name again, but it was a nice chance to skip the rest of the name and he had always been a fan of that. “I can get you a coffee or water, but something stronger will have to be at Galahd. They offer a free drink to new arrivals.” He wrote down the information provided quickly and pushed back his chair to get up and grab her that coffee from the little setup just a few steps away.
Over his shoulder, Gansey nodded. “We’ll keep the names down too, so if someone arrives you’re waiting for, you can be notified to come pick them up here. In fact,” He finished pouring the coffee and brought it back, offering it to her. “There’s a Doc Holliday here that you may know? He went under the name Hank for a while, I’m assuming for obvious reasons, but he’s been here a while now.”
Well, it seemed promising to her (even a little) that they’d be willing to keep any names and notify her if they came up at some point. But as he moved to hand her the coffee, hearing Doc’s name fall from his mouth made her eyes go what and she burst out with a rather loud “WHAT?” in response. Of course, this drew attention to herself and she looked around and gave an awkward sort of wave in an apology to anyone that might’ve disturbed before looking back at him, “Doc’s here?” Holy shit, maybe this was the Garden then! “Wait, so then is my sister here, too? Because he followed her, so that must mean she’s here. Her name is Waverly.”
Outbursts were nothing new when you lived with Ronan Lynch as long as Gansey had, and his eyes just widened a little before he settled back into the easy back and forth. And he could only partly recall his own arrival and frustration that he was the first here, so Gansey didn’t hold it against her.
But he also hated giving bad news, and took a second to thumb through the list of registered Outlanders on his tablet. “Doc, yes. But I’m afraid not for your sister. Unless she registered under another name and has been keeping her head down. Would Doc know?”
That hopeful feeling quickly shifting into something more sinking and she carefully took the cup of coffee from him, bringing it to her lips and taking a sip. Which made her wince a little since it was, y’know, hot. “Ow, fuck,” she whispered before shaking her head a little. “I’m pretty confident that she wouldn’t, but if Doc’s found her, I doubt he’s let her out of his sight. So if she’s here, she’d probably be with him.” Wynonna went quiet again briefly. If Waverly wasn’t here and Doc was though... that thought sent a chill down her spine and she shook her head a bit. “Do you know where I can find Doc? Or a general area? I don’t know how close of tabs you guys keep on people that show up, but being pointed in the right direction would be helpful.”
Gansey nodded in understanding and opened his tablet. They didn’t usually give information of where people were, even if they had it, just out of safety for the outlanders and their privacy, but pointing her in the right direction was well within his means. “If you give me about five or ten minutes, I can get your electronic device and network access up and running, and get your bank account paperwork done. You can contact Doc on the network and find out where he’s at.”
Gansey glanced up at her over his glasses and grinned. “We have a welcome video to watch in the meantime if you’d like?”
The fact that he was setting her up with a device and that she was getting a bank account felt all too permanent, and she hated it, but she needed to just go with it for now and try to figure something else out as soon as possible. “Hopefully he knows what he’s doing on it, he’s not the best with technology.” Feeling a little defeated, she leaned against the desk and took quiet sips of her coffee before he got her attention with the mention of the welcome video.
“No offense, buddy, but you seem a little too eager about that video so I’m going to pass.” Of course, she couldn’t help a hint of a smile tugging at one corner of her mouth, which she tried to hide behind the cup again, before shaking her head. “Thanks, though.” She said it after a few seconds and then waited quietly for him to finish up. Once the device - a phone, really - was handed to her, she tucked it into her back pocket and gave him a little two finger salute from her forehead. “I’ll get out of your hair now. And if Waverly’s name comes across your desk, let me know? Nicole Haught is one to keep an eye out for, too.”
