I understand there have been happenings this week, but I ask forgiveness as I talk about myself as today marks the end of my first week as a teacher of music, a sentence that I would have never imagined saying at almost any point in my life. As unexpected a change of pace, though, it's a real good one. It was a rewarding week and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes moving forward.

Though, for the record: if any of your young ones come home with songs that might easily get stuck in your head, I apologize in advance.

Jem, it rhymes. It would be perfect for young inquiring minds. Shall I remind you how it goes?

I appreciate this, however I am self aware enough to know that I can be hoodwinked out of my sensibility at times.

I like the violin. The violin music is nice.

But what's the screeching?

That would be Will's musical aptitude. I could try to drown him out with the violin, but he may take it to be a challenge.

I appreciate knowing that my music is enjoyed, though. I don't want to disturb others with my practice, so that's good to hear.

And you can call me Jem, if you'd like.

It's been some time since I've spent time around a bard. And you teach? We had whole colleges for that back home, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the word college was a very malleable term.

I don't know that I would call myself a bard exactly, but I do primarily play violin. I'm teaching more generalized music than violin, though, and to younger children at the elementary level.

Well put, most bards I've met tend to be rather vocal about their talents and less modest.

I suppose that can be borderline forgiven, if they had the talents to back up their boasting?

Is it very hard to learn an instrument?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]snackariah

It's a challenge, but one that I think everyone has the ability to take on if they put the time and effort into it. I was a child when I first started to learn, so I've had many years to practice.

Do you only teach the violin?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]snackariah

Not at all! Violin was my first instrument and the one I know best, but I also play most other string instruments and the piano, so I could teach those as well.
