Despite spending two nights in his old bed Harry felt slightly distrustful of his environment. Houses shouldn't just come back from the ashes and drop into strange, magical dimensions, even when you factored in the 'it's magic'ness of it all. It wasn't how the magic he'd spent his life studying worked. Magic was balance; give a little in order to take, but never taking too much, because that was when things started to go badly wrong. His hand gave a sympathetic twinge in response to that thought. However wary he was, even Harry couldn't deny the existence of his abode, or Mister and Mouse, who'd been gloriously needy of attention that he'd been delighted to pander to. He was starting to feel a strange sense of belonging in Vallo and with that came the desire to explore and dig deeper. After talking to Murphy (and what a talk!) they'd decided to meet up. Harry was clear on the first part of their plan and for the time being he was going to concentrate on that, because the second half... yeah, he wouldn't think about that or it might rewire his brain in fear and trepidation. Stick to the magic - he knew what he was doing in that instance. Dates? not so much. Having left a note on the front door, telling Murphy to let herself in (and knowing his wards and Mouse would keep them otherwise undisturbed) he rolled back the rugs and descended into his lab and got to work. Harry decided to use the summoning circle as a safe-zone. Layering protections one upon another in order to give them a fighting chance against anything and everything that they'd be exposed to when he opened the Way. So concentrated was he, Harry didn't hear Karrin's soft steps until she was climbing down the steps. He shot her a crooked smile of greeting as he completed the incantation before greeting her. "So, what do you think? Pretty neat, huh?" he said with a look around the room. "Everything's set up," Harry said swallowing nervously, feeling as though he was leaving Murph unprepared somehow, but he'd done all he could. She was tough. He knew she could hold her own, whatever came their way. |
