Some days feel better than others, and some days are just odd. I never thought I'd be grateful for school but at least that feels normal today.

[Lyra]

I can't shake this feeling that we're going to get caught or that something bad is about to happen. I keep wanting to look over my shoulder like someone's watching me. I know that's unlikely but logic isn't helping. What if they find out we're living on own? I thought I left having to worry about that behind

Yeah, that's about how life goes. Taking any interesting classes?

If that's what you're into? Wasn't much of a school-goer myself. But how's the curriculum compare to back home? Anything kinda weird?

It's not all that different but easier to learn here?

Better teachers or just better environment?

Honestly, the environment at my last school made it impossible to tell how good my teachers were?

Both, probably.

I once had a teacher that only ever really talked about her problems with her husband instead of whatever subject we were supposed to be learning about. I think the lesson ended up being "don't get married."

Are you trying out for any of the sports teams?

That sounds like a terrible class. Did you have any good ones?

I hadn't thought about it. Maybe, if there's boxing. Or track.

Can't say I really remember much beyond that. Dropped out at 11. Learned from the streets instead. AKA stay in school or whatever, kid.

Those sound fun. Boxing is probably pretty useful, unlike math.

I wasn't in school back home, either. School is better here.

I can fight. And run now that my hand is healed.

Then we leave and go live somewhere else. I don't think they care enough to catch us.

You're right, of course. I still can't shake that feeling though.

We're not going to beat this price either.

Keep the feeling. Then I don't have to be as paranoid.

Maybe I'll get more free money.

If you can keep that up and I get some too we won't need to worry about the fact that we don't have jobs.

Now I think my teacher is watching me.

You need to get better at hiding looking at your phone.

I was thinking about trying school just for that feeling too. But I'm pretty sure it's still going to be so different it won't help that much. I might start anyway though, sometime.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]zombiespy
2020-05-17 12:18 am UTC (link)
I really didn't. It was just kind of always like that. We just moved, back home, so maybe it will be better in a new school. But probably not.

I mostly just tried to stay with my friends and keep clear of everyone else as much as I could. Don't get caught alone, that kind of thing. It didn't always work, but sometimes. People know who I am more than they used to, so it was harder than it used to be to just be invisible.
