I have noticed there have been a few skirmishes. My own skill does not lay in combat, but if anyone is truly harmed during them do let me know, I should be glad to heal anyone who needs it as it is the very least I could do.

"Healing" like magic healing?

I perhaps should have been clearer, but yes.

No, it's fine. The only magic from my world is bad news. I'm still getting used to this stranger than fiction crap.

What kind of injuries have you worked with?

I'm sorry that your experience with magic hasn't been the best. If there is anything I can do, do let me know.

Anything from small cuts to broken bones. My champion has a tendency to do before thinking. I've also shared my soul with someone once, but I think that's something I can only do once.

Don't worry about it. Shit happens.

Uh, excuse me, you shared your what? How the fuck - Did you [...] get it back??

The offer will remain.

I did yes. I wasn't really expecting that, but Midna was dying and I knew of no other way to ensure her survival.

Wow. That's metal as hell. I'm glad you're okay, though. Assuming you are, that is. Is Midna a friend?

ZELDA:
There's actually something I could use your professional opinion on. I think my wound has magic on it or in it? but I can't be sure. Maybe you'll know more than the doctors here did.

So far I have not shown any adverse effects. And yes, but she is also more. She is my mirror, and twin to my soul.

Eddie

I cannot promise answers but I will be more then glad to take a look at it.

Do you look alike? Because there's a guy here who might as well be my twin, but we're from two different worlds. I wonder if it's the same.

ZELDA:
Thanks. I really appreciate your time. It's fine if you don't know anything, I'd just feel better if somebody saw it who gets this stuff.

I'll pay, too.

We look alike, without looking alike if that makes sense. And it might be. She is of another realm after all.

Eddie

I can understand that. And that's unnecessary. I'm always happy to help a friend.

Woah, hold on a second. We're not friends. I'd annoy the shit out of you if we were. It's better to be civil acquaintances so you can bail on me without any bad feelings. Trust me.

If you do not wish to be friends I shan't force you, but I shall still consider you one no matter what. And I do not know what 'bail on me' means but I doubt I shall do it.

"Bail" means leave.

I should like to think that I am a good judge of character, and I like giving people the benefit of the doubt.

And I shan't do that. Why do you think you would annoy me?

Either you're a weirdly nice person or you're something else I haven't figured out yet.

Mostly because I'm neurotic, and a hypochondriac, and I curse too much, but there's more. You'll see, at least if you insist on being friends.

And I do not see why that would disqualify you as a friend.

Now that's a question I like to assume the Maker gifted me these powers, yes, although there's plenty who would disagree with that assumption. The more potent spells in my arsenal would be impossible without the assistance of one of His first children, so that's got to count for something?

[info]thispuzzledmind

It does count for something, and I am sorry that there are those who would deny your gifts. And I apologize for all the questions but who are these first children?

Questions are fine. I like questions. Normally it's all "Aaargh, maleficar!" or "Back, foul abomination!". Curiosity, I have no problem with.

The incredibly short version of events as I understand it is that when the Maker first created... well, everything, or more specifically the realm we know as the Fade, He populated it with Spirits - the first children. But He didn't give them the ability to imagine anything new, only to copy things they had already seen. So He portioned off a new realm using something we call the Veil, and made mortals to live there. Does that all make sense?

[info]thispuzzledmind

I would never say such things, even if they held meaning for me. I do not know you, thus I should not judge.

That is...most curious but yes it makes sense. So it is not, and I apologize if this sounds like I am making less of what you can do, not a direct connection? There is an in between?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]libertassumptus
2020-01-22 11:10 pm UTC (link)
Nobody has a direct connection to the Maker; He turned His face away, and doesn't listen to us any more.

You said that you'd shared your soul with someone once - am I right in assuming that's not a metaphor?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]thispuzzledmind

That is most odd. The Golden Goddesses have also left Hyrule, but Their presence is still very much felt and while Hylia does not speak to me I know She is active, and speaks to others.

I have, yes. I wish I could explain it better, but thus all the questions. Because my magic is inherently Divine, it just does. When I gave my soul to Midna, I knew how to do that but I could not explain the how of it all.

Well, dependent on whose accounts you believe, we might have deserved it. In as much as any child deserves to be abandoned, that is. Which is to say not at all but... what was my point again? Anyway. The Maker's not listening, but His first children are; they take our thoughts and dreams and ideals and try to copy them. And sometimes they get it a bit wonky, but when they get it right? Then they are truly formidable.

I suspect most people don't dig much deeper than 'it just does', when it comes down to it. Instinct is a wonderful thing.

Again, that is odd. There are a lot of similarities, but also a lot of differences. But it is hard, to judge Divinity by the morals of mortals. To do such would be to invite insanity, for Divinity will act in it's own unscrupulous way. And the latter I will agree with.

Yes but how much of that is my instinct, and not something passed onto me by my ancestor? That and I have a drive to know things, alongside the fact that if I understand this I can help my people more. If I do not know where my limits are, it may cost them.

Petty, vindictive and disproportionate feels like an incredibly human response to me. It's definitely one the Chantry wasted no time emulating. Divinity is a poor excuse for injustice.

You, though, I like. You ask smart questions.

[info]thispuzzledmind

I do not mean to argue or cause hard feelings, but all those things could be something you ascribe to this Divinity. As mortals, we have a habit of placing our feelings on other things, even onto Divinity. But Divinity, for that matter, may not even understand such concepts. Not even such matters as justice. I do not know what a Chantry is though.

I try to. The person who claims to know everything is the most foolish person alive, and I've lives depending on the sort of questions I ask.

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]libertassumptus

If He does not understand Justice - or any of the other Virtues that shine in His first children - and cannot be made to do so, then perhaps it is best His gaze remains averted.

The Chantry is the body that regulates Worship on Thedas. Technically there are two, because mankind cannot agree on anything.

Are you certain your Midna is not a Spirit of Wisdom? ... That was a joke, and one that relies on understanding a lot more than I've told you so far. Sorry. Either way, I hope you keep asking questions. More leaders should realise how many things they do not know.

Forgive me if I overstep. I am, after all, speaking of things I do not know. But you explained that your Maker's first children were reflections of mortals. Perhaps then they only reflect what they have seen, not what they were created with. But I cannot fault you for this view. I often wish the Goddesses would be as distant as they are said to be.

That sounds complicated.

No, but the irony is that I do carry a piece of Wisdom with me. Not a spirit as it might be named and the explanation is a bit of a long one, but as short as I can make it is that there is a Divine Relic called the Triforce. It's pieces are named Power, Courage, and Wisdom. It was shattered in ages long past, and the latter piece resides within me. It is also the force that drives me to learn, as knowledge is part of wisdom.

[info]libertassumptus

It's entirely possible. Perhaps there is no Maker; perhaps He is just another dream mortals threw into the Fade. I've yet to meet a Spirit who remembers Him, though asking a Spirit to remember anything is... complicated, given they don't have a precise concept of earlier or later, only now.

It both is and isn't. Most of the civilised world follows the White Chantry, while the Tevinter Imperium does things its own way.

So you're a... living reliquary? That's fascinating.

There is that possibility as well. I am always unsure which is worse.

I suppose it would make more sense if I knew more.

In a way.
