There is a filibuster going on in Washington right now. A senator has talked and "answered questions" for twelve hours and fifteen minutes. He is allowed to talk without yielding the floor for as long as he can, so as to delay a vote.
When a filibuster is happening, nobody's allowed to leave the Capitol building. Not one person. Not even the damn janitor.
Now that I don't work on the Hill anymore, I can say that I lived through two filibusters when I was there. One lasted 17 hours, and the other lasted 21. Both of those times, I actively considered barging into the chamber and shooting a United States senator in the head.
So yeah. I feel sorry for everyone except the moron at the podium right about now.
