Mating occurs between May and August, with a fight over females occuring between males. Prior to fights, Komodo Dragons will often vomit or maybe defecate, before going in for the fight; which doesn't result in death, but instead in the loser being pinned. Then, the male will flick his tongue across the female to test her level of receptivity. The females attack and defend themselves, so the male essentially has to pin them and, well, like ducks, have to 'rape' them. A bit of a harsh word to use, but in natural circles, it's what counts as that; still, necessary to continue the species.
