I don't know. It's nothing like what I've seen but it sounds familiar to other diseases in the past. The Spanish flu epidemic of 1918 killed 3% of the world's population in a little over a year if you go by the official numbers of 20-50 million but they estimate the actual number was closer to 200 million deaths. It turned people blue too (lack of oxygen) and was most deadly to young adults that aren't usually too affected by flu.
Of course this isn't the same disease, not close, but it's the closest thing I can think of and I like to read a lot about diseases. Either way, it's scary.
