I'm feeling inexplicably homesick for Spain today

Europe does hold a certain heart more than here, I've found. The few times I did visit, I found Spain to be quite enjoyable.

I was born in a Spanish territory, but it's strange to feel homesick since I haven't been there in decades.

I've often found that circumstance matters more than time.

Time is an imposed concept, anyway

Indeed. Which is why I tend to prefer circumstance over time.

Will you be able to visit any time soon?

Unlikely. I only just returned to work after a long time away. I shouldn't take another vacation for a while.

Perhaps in the future, in that case.

I really should.

What did you like most about Spain? Just curious.

Make early plans so they can't be as easily interrupted.

Difficult to say, as I wasn't there for a vacation. The people were kind for the most part, when I could escape and speak to them.

Would it be too personal to ask what you were there for?

I was there on a political venture, an ambassador of sorts from England.

Well, that's very impressive.

No?

Difficult to be a politician in England if you live in California.

That's a good point, but I wasn't assuming anything. You could be here for vacation.

Unfortunately not, in this case.

Well, welcome to California. The weather's nice, anyway.

Indeed it is. Quite different from what I was used to.

London, but that's it. For a conference. Not very exciting.

It could be for worse things than that. London's a lovely place to visit, regardless.

I spent three days in a hotel conference room...

Then clearly you need to go back and spend three days outside that conference room.
