I feel almost bad breaking the heart of my neighbors dog. Every day he comes to my door with a ball or a toy for her and they play for a little while before his owners come to pick him up and he gives her a little lick before leaving. Unfortunately the first thing I did after the puppies were weaned and rehomed was get her fixed because I'm not going to breed her. And seeing how bad off she was when they brought her to me because of the unplanned pregnancy that her previous owner let happen? I wasn't going to put my sweet girl through that again.

Dogs are social creatures. Did the pups she had the product of her and the neighbor's dog?

At her previous owners house yeah. I got her as a rescue from a friend. She was being mistreated by her last family, not taken care of after she got pregnant like she should have been so now she's with me.

No. He belongs to my neighbor at my apartment. I wouldn't want anyone associated with her previous owners knowing where I lived.

My bad. He still does. I'm just worried that he's thinking she'll give him puppies or something and then be heartbroken when he figures out she can't.

If he's bringing her toys, that's just him bringing her toys to play. That's his best friend. Just like us humans have best friends.

She came to live with me last July, he started coming over end of October.

So for about three months then? Sounds like they've become pretty close. Which means separating them would be heartbreak for them both.

I just woke up to a dog from my dreams in my place. I've never had a dog before. I don't know the first thing what to do with this animal. He's old and blind and he smells.

The vet might want to check him for respiratory issues in that case. Something about their faces makes them more susceptible according to my friend's mum. She raises dogs for show and pets.
