For anyone who ever wonders where I got my particular sense of humor perhaps knowing what my father emailed me today will help with that - screenshots of where someone on Twitter called author Neil Gaiman a fake geek who had just started watching Doctor Who because the latest Doctor is a female and not a real geek because he hasn't been watching Doctor Who since the very beginning of the series. For those of you who aren't aware Doctor Who first aired in 1963. Mr. Gaiman, author of American Gods, Coraline, Stardust, Good Omens, The Graveyard Book, introduction to the first Doctor Who novelization and the Sandman Comics as well as several comics, was born in 1960, so he would have only been 3 when the series premiered.

But by all means yes the man who has won more science fiction and fantasy awards than I could possibly ever remember is a fake geek for not following a series that started while he was a toddler from the very beginning. Twitter never ceases to amuse me even when I don't have the luck to stumble across these little gems myself.

Just so everyone knows, I've had to listen to this rant all day. Over text, over the phone, and over dinner. It's everyone else's turn now.

This is a good point, I picked you. I knew what I was in for.

I know!! I aspire to be half the writer he is one day.

I tried to give you an out. Just so everyone knows. You refused it.

You'll get there.

And then I'll be making these rants about you.

Yes, you tried to give me an out. And instead I decided to kiss you while you were in the process of firing yourself. Still the best decision I've ever made.

And now I'm bright red.

I'm going to remind you you said that next time we have an argument. Just so you know.

Your coworkers are all welcome.

What, that I picked you? Or that you're the best decision I've ever made?

There's an awful lot of teasing about what I could be texting about, you know.

Both parts.

Oh I know. My receptionist is enjoying the rare opportunity to tease me too.

Borrow my response to her - ask if they're jealous.

I can't say I'm surprised. The amount of times I've been told that my accent is clearly fake and not even a good one is absurd.

I've sadly gotten used to being told that one. I don't sound British enough for them apparently since I don't talk like I'm in a Shakesperean play or a Dickens novel.

Right? And you know, not being from London proper but instead Sheffield so I get the oh so fun regional bias as well so people don't believe me.

Oh the oh so fun regional bias. Never get tired of that one.

That and asking if you know the Queen.

So brilliant. Really and truly.

Well obviously! If you're British, clearly you must know the Queen. Doesn't everyone?

Have her round for dinner at least once a week and everything.

My parents have a title so I got dragged to some of the events growing up but we didn't actually interact with any of the family. It's hereditary from so far back none of us even know what ancestor did what to get it. It's a way for mum to get people to help with her charity work - I'm fairly certain that's the only time either of them have ever used it.

Obviously. If you don't then clearly there's something off going on.

Really? Well, I guess if it's being used to get help with charity work.

Really. It never stops amusing me how quickly people open up their wallets when they hear someone with a title is involved with a project.

Clearly they're hoping to get into good graces with your family because it's all about having connections.

Barking up the wrong tree there I'm afraid. Mum won't be used that way as my ex found out.
