On a scale of 1-10, how heavy is the irony in a law student alternatively resourcing half of this semester’s books?

Are you sure that the scale is even needed?

I’d say so if not only cause charging students $1200 for the first year reading list to own is kind of a crime. And renting them is still $700...

Perhaps it needs something heavier than a scale. Though, that is a crime. Do they not give you students other options where the books and materials are concerned?

You can get them in the library, but there’s a limited number of them. And they were all republished this year meaning that last year’s ones are out of date.

So you either give them your soul, more or less, or you get books that are outdated and make you look or feel like an idiot.

I wonder if there's a way around that.

Pretty much, I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I kinda like my soul where it is.

Alternative resource kinda feels like my only option...

I can ask around, see if anyone knows of any other sources. The other teachers might know something.

Otherwise, I hope everything works out and you don't have to shell out too much yet.

That would be great, man, thanks.

It's not a problem. Last thing anyone needs is to pay that much for books.

Depends. On the lengths the law student is willing to go to alternatively resource the books.

No one’s trying to smuggle the books out of the store under a large hat.

Shame. I think that would have made for a fun story. Only if it had been successful, of course.

Using a hat might be hard, but probably a big coat? Books hidden in the seams.

As long as it didn't look purposefully big or people might get suspicious.

Some security guards are smarter than people give them credit for.

I think most of them are tbh. Keen eyes for people that look shifty.

Well, I suppose it is their job, and they'd be bad at it if they weren't observant.

That's true. I've never successfully shoplifted in my life, not sure $200 books are where I should start.

Are you able to make money?

I’m trying to work out if I can handle a part time job as well as my law degree...

I suppose it all depends on the part time job. Some might be more flexible than you think.

Some are digital now, but I was lucky to get all mine second hand from a family friend when I started.

But it is heavy.

Yeah, second-hand won’t help as they’re all new editions that we’re meant to have. I’ve got some of them second-hand but we’ve already been told that won’t help.

I’m gonna get scoliosis from carrying my books around. How far through school are you?
