Anyone got any suggestions on things to do with a fifteen-year-old around here that isn't museums or movies? I want to have ideas of things to do this weekend when my daughter comes over.

Shopping.

You might think I'm kidding, but I'm not.

No, somehow I think you might be on to something.

Now the question becomes where's the best place to spend some money for a half tomboy/half princess type of girl.

Mall!

Different stores, same building.

I'll have to look at some of the malls in the area. I'm sure there's one that's got everything she could dream of.

Thanks...?

I wanted to know who had given me the good advice. I'm Leonard McCoy. You are?

Izzy Lightwood. Might seen my cafe, Izzy's while traveling around.

Nice to meet you, Izzy. Especially since I've been to your business. You run a fine establishment. My daughter loves your food.

Thank you!

What her favorite dessert, I'll make some for her!

She likes all of the strawberry dishes you've got.

We'll definitely make sure we come by, then. She'll be ecstatic.

Unfortunately, all I do are museums. Or rock climbing.

Now, I might not be into rock climbing, but that sounds right up my daughter's alley. Arent't there supposed to be indoor places for beginners?

There are! They have a variety of challenges depending on skill level and how quickly she learns.

That's good to know. Anything I should look for, or look to avoid?

I can give you a list of places that overcharge, and some that are unsafe.

Mostly it should be relatively clean and look well cared for.

I'd appreciate that list.

I'm Leonard McCoy. Thank you for your help, Ms...?

Croft. Lara Croft. I'm an archaeologist but I spend a lot of time hiking and rock climbing.

Nice to meet you, Lara. An archaeologist? Sounds like the kind of job my daughter would love to have. She's interested in medicine, like me, but in science and history, too.

I think they're all related in one way or another. I'd be happy to talk to her sometime.

I think so too. And that's great. Thank you, Lara. Mind if I let her know this weekend you've offered and then get back to you?

I don't mind. I have a trip planned this month but I'm sure I can squeeze something in

Is there one in town this weekend? That could be interesting.

There's always one if you find the right truck!

I'll have to consider that.

I have a truck. Not a monster, but you can run over some Power Wheels or something.

[info]youreadamnfool

Now that could be fun. Question is, my daughter has her permit. Can she drive the truck if I'm in it with her?

I think I just need to figure out the right place to demolish some Power Wheels and we'll do this.

We're in California so you can drive into the more remote hills and pick a spot. I also recommend crushing bath bombs.

Arcades, the beach?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]youreadamnfool

I'm not a particular fan of the beach but arcades could be interesting. I used to be good at some of the older games back in the day.

That's fair, I'm not either but whenever we've canvased it there was a lot of teens there. I'd sooner lean toward arcade myself. There's one in OC at [address]Same. Pac Man was my jam, people said you couldn't high score but I did.

I'll bring it up as an idea to her that we go there. And oh, the memories I have with Pac Man.

Maybe you could come up with some science experiments to do with her?

(Reply to this) (Thread)

[info]youreadamnfool
2020-05-03 01:51 am UTC (link)
Yeah, I think she'd like that. There's got to be websites with stuff for older teens to do, right?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]littlenightmare

There's a few. You could always try the egg drop test, where you build a container to protect your egg and then throw it off a roof. I used to really like building solar ovens on warm days, too.

[info]youreadamnfool

I live in an area pretty high up with roof access so we could do both, I think. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any time. If you need any other fun science to do, I'm filled with ideas.

I appreciate it. I know she loved doing science stuff when she was younger and I think she's still pretty interested in the cool types of experiments.

I'm Leonard McCoy, by the way.

I'm pretty sure anyone who likes cool science when they're younger still like it when they get older, so long as no one makes them stop loving it.

I'm Nova Arti McLain. Nice to meet you. Well, kinda. What do they call it when you've only ever talked to someone online?

I've heard the same.

I believe they're called online friendships or virtual friendships later. I think we're at the acquaintance's stage still.
