It seems that women were as likely to hunt in hunter/gatherer societies as men, based on the rate of related injuries when examining their skeletons.

Yet more ammunition against the idea that women historically stayed home.

I feel like the 'historically' stuff started sometime around the 1600's or so, you know. When men decided a large amount of things and women were 'hysterical' for having 'urges'.

Ah, the patriarchy. Such fun.

Oh, it's the most fun, really.

The media spin and traditionalist conservative outlook on the new developments are always entertaining though.

They can be entertaining. And also infuriating.

Isn't that conservative everything most of the time?

It's a pity, is all. But yes.

I'm not sure I pity those people as much as I should

More likely we pity the poor sods they raise. Nothing worse than having your life ruined by shitty upbringing.

And then there are all the people around them they influence

Well they do have a whole news network to do that on.

I don't really see how they could back then even if there was a lot of work. Everyone had to hunt. Society changed when they became a little more civilized.

Civilized can be a tricky word

Yeah, it can, but I lack a better one here.

The west in particular likes to erase women's role in society, though other parts of the world aren't without the same sin.

It's complicated. I don't know why women relegated themselves to the roles either. They were always fierce, but roles definitely shifted to create what it became.

When you lack power and are deliberately mis-educated, it's hard to fight

That's the truth. Pinpointing when that really started to happen is difficult, or why it happened in the first place. Imagine what the world would be had women held their positions.

I think it makes complete sense that women would have gone hunting and gathering as well.

In most societies everyone helped in every role. A lot of that was lost, usually deliberately.

It's unfortunate that those things were lost, because it only ends up setting women back.
