You are correct, it doesn't really change. Even the starship I was on was pretty silent unless you were in engineering near the mass effect core that powered it. Still, I did, and still do, enjoy those quiet moments. I like to gaze at the stars and wonder what stories they could tell of the ages since the universe began. Or the tales of any other intelligent life that has existed.
They were tragic. I personally wasn't a proponent of AIs, but the starship I served on had an AI that was instrumental in helping us achieve our objective. We wouldn't have done it without her. So my feelings on the matter did change. Not all AIs wish to destroy us. Some, like the Geth and EDI, the AI I knew, simply wished to help and understand organics like humans.
