Kinetic energy is only the energy an object needs to stay in motion once it overcomes static friction state (and object at rest). If continuous kinetic energy is not applied, kinetic friction from outside forces (wind, the ground, running into a brick wall, etc.) will slow an object back to its resting static friction state.
So, it could be said, I merely overcame the resting static friction of the objects and windows in my apartment, with my mind, and momentarily moved it all around, but then the kinetic friction from other outside forces (mostly my walls and ceilings) slowed their momentum, and they all eventually stopped moving.
