Ever stop to think that when you dream, like little d and not the big D dreams, you can have a conversation with someone and not know what they're going to say even though it's all in your head?

So doesn't that mean that your brain is capable of withholding information from itself?

Oh I think the brain is capable of a lot of things. Makes sense right?

I mean people can forget trauma for self protection, that's similar I think?

See, now that's inciteful.

Thanks. I have moments every now and then.

Indeed they do. One possibly gives a more exciting outcome.

Adventure, fun and maybe a little bit of mischief every now and then.

Haven't there been studies about that phenomenon?

I thought I remembered one of my professors saying something about that. It's a defense mechanism of the human brain - protecting us from things that would be too overwhelming to remember. Or to remember all at once.

Dreams are our brain's way of dealing with all the data it can't process while we're awake.

So...my little d dreams lately are my brain trying to process...something about pizza?

I'll take it.

Well, more like as you walk through the day you see literally thousands of seconds of things that you don't notice. Cars passing by, sounds, smells.

But because you're focusing on one or two things you don't notice. But your brain notices.

And then it processes it all in dreams so you don't go crazy.

Why couldn't my professors explain it like that?

Because they're academics, dollface!

You'd think that would make them want even more to find a way to explain things to their students so they got it completely instead of just parts of it.

Probably. And that's why I have no interest in using my degree to teach once I finish - I wouldn't fit their mold.

I want to be a social worker. Keep other kids from being bounced around in foster care like I was. Get them the right fit the first time.

I think so. There's dissociative amnesia and all kinds of ways for the mind to repress memories. Maybe the brain can withhold other info too, to make your regular dreams more interesting or something.

Maybe we just have too much to process.

The brain is the organ we know the least about. But since brains also tend to keep information in our waking life to itself sometimes (like when something is on the tip of your tongue and you know you know it, but the words won't come until hours or days later?), it makes sense it does in your dreams too.

I'm curious about why it does that, though. In dreams and when you're awake.
