So today is National Coming Out Day. The first person that I ever told I was gay was my friend Daphne when we were fifteen. I told my parents not long after that and unlike in my dreams, they were both incredibly supportive of me. I had been scared that they wouldn't be, but I'm lucky enough to have a great family and great friends who always accepted and supported me. I know that not everyone is as lucky to have that sort of support system, and if any of those people are here and ever want to or need to talk, I'm a pretty good listener.

That's a really nice offer. My parents - that's a messy story but ny grandfather was really cool about it. Even tried to introduce me to some guys when I was in high school.

I'm sorry about your parents, but that's pretty awesome about your grandfather.

He and I have always been close.

My parents always said they were okay with me being gay but when I moved in with my boyfriend this year I realized they weren't okay with me being gay and in a serious relationship.

I'm sure they'll come around eventually. They're probably just worried cause you're young.

You're a very giving person. I'm glad that I have gotten to know you.

You should see my brother's face when I bring up the topic. He gets very red about the face and looks constipated. Is it terrible that I want to take you to visit them sometime just for the hysterics of my sister-in-law and my brother's constipated look? I'm sure the children will like you well enough.

I like to try and give back when I can. I'm glad to have gotten to know you too.

Is it wrong of me to want to witness this?

I'm glad you put up with me.

Not any more wrong than the fact that I want to inflict this on them both. We'll have to pick out gifts for the children. They're very needy.

Let me know when you want to go. I'll make sure I'm available.

The first person I ever told that I'm gay was my mom? It was her week with me, I'm pretty sure it was her. But my dad found out soon after. Since he's bisexual, it's not like it was a huge thing to either of them. They were just happy I'm happy? Mom just makes sure to remind me every so often that adoption is still an option. Great Mom. Let me get through medschool first.

She really, really does. She's going to have to wait on that, all I can offer her at the moment is a granddog in the form of my boyfriend's greyhound. But she's terribly allergic so...

At least there's always benadryl and other allergy meds that she can take when she's around your dog.

Apparently my parents were waiting for me to come out to them. I uuhhh... wasn't as good as I thought I was about clearing my search history.

At least I'm not alone in that? It was embarrassing, I had this whole big speech prepared, and it was just so hard to get all of the words out. And they already knew, because fourteen year old me wasn't as computer savvy as I thought.

Did they at least let you finish your speech before they told you that they knew?

In my case? Religious nutcases. I mean, on top of many other kinds of bigoted nutcase. ...Not much different in my dreams, either. I somehow doubt I even tried there. My brother and one of my cousins had already gotten disowned for various reasons. Here, I do at least get passive aggressive birthday cards with bible verses.

My dad's a bisexual drag queen, and my mom.... well. She died when I was really young. But apparently Dad was the only guy she was ever interested in. I don't think I ever had to come out to my family in the traditional way. It was my friends at school I was worried about telling about being genderfluid and pan. Luckily I've never had any sort of problem with anyone that mattered to me.

Thank you! I'm pretty lucky to be born to the family I was. That, or I'm walking proof it's somehow genetic. And I'm glad that you've had good experiences, too.

....My parents will find out one day. But considering how they (well, Mom) reacted to my chosen career... I don't think "Hey, I also like girls. Like, a lot." is going to go over very well.

Right now, I'm just a student. Double majoring in theater, because that's my passion, and physical therapy, because the whole 'starving artist' thing is lame.
