That is part of it, the first American library school was founded by Melvin Dewey actually. Library Science, however, is learning how to preserve, organize and collect information resources for future uses. There's also the technical aspect of it which involves learning how to use technology, archiving information from that as well, among other things.
It's, to most people, I'd say boring. I enjoy the peace and quiet of it all though.
