I call things wonderful. I might have used cool, or lovely, or other words, but basically I do. I've said it to people when they've had good news in their lives, like having a baby, all kinds of good things.
I don't say it about the things that cause their suffering, because I know how that feels. I certainly wouldn't do it when it comes to things that cause widespread pain. The fog, and the troopers were not like ice or bees. They were more like pollution or a violent crime.
The reporters only affected me. Calling the fog wonderful on a network used by people who were injured by the fog, or lost loved ones to it in their dreams, could impact all of them. The fog was a bad thing, not just the cause of a bad thing.
