I was really handling things. I was doing all right. But the vet's office called today, and his ashes are ready to pick up. I'm not sure I can handle that. Poor Pete. I miss him so much.

Can I do anything? Do you want me to go with you? I'll take you out for lunch, too, or you can come by the house. See how the nursery is going and get your mind on other, happier things?

And I get it. Between pregnant sisters and sisters-in-law, I'm old hat at this. And you know what they're like, now, so you can imagine all that energy beng converted into uncontrollable emotion.

Friday? I've got some time on Friday afternoon. I'll spring for snacks afterward? I found a great tea house that makes caffiene-free tea that doesn't taste like sucking on weeds.

He was. A part of me wants to get another dog, but I know that's a bad idea. I've got Backup to cuddle up with, anyway.

It's still hard to believe he's actually gone. He was such a good dog. Poor Backup is so confused. I don't think he gets it.

I keep waking up and going to scoop food into his bowl, having forgotten he's not around.

Backup's been more cuddly with me than normal.

I remember. He liked you. No one else let him lick their face the way you did.

He was a rescue, so I never knew how old he was exactly, but the vet thinks he was about sixteen when he died.
