It is nice to wake up and find, for once, my dreams have given me something that is not dirt and that will not inflict harm. Though I admit I have little use for fifteenth century fashion or a sword, but they are finely made so perhaps I will find a place to display the sword.

I do think there are several on this network who have received such a gift, yes?

I'm sorry, did you just say your dreams gave you dirt?

Ah

Yes, several crates from what once was the Transylvanian region of Romania.

Okay. That sounds absolutely---

But why though?

I fear it is a rather involved story.

I have no doubt you could, Mr Harker.

I'm flattered that you think so highly of my intellectual prowess.

That still doesn't explain the dirt though.

Do you believe at all in superstitions, I wonder?

Not usually. But our brains are hard-wired to believe nonsense, no matter how hard we try not to sometimes.

Are you certain the dirt was from your dreams, and not due to, perhaps, some sleep walking in the garden?

And I agree, if the sword is in good condition it ought to be displayed.

I am too much awake these days to fall into sleep walking. And, regretfully, it did come from my dreams. It came in crates, you see. And holds the distinct smell of rich soil mixed with the tinge of death.

I think the sword would go well with my decor, actually. It would seem a shame to lock it away.

Oh? How odd. When you say the tinge of death, do you mean it is, perhaps, soil from a cemetery?

Ah. Forgive me, my friend, I have been so busy with things that I have forgotten to properly inform you of my dreams.

I dream I am a vampire. The dirt comes from the cellars beneath my castle, and, in my particular lore, I cannot rest without the earth from my homeland around me.

Of course. I heard tales of such things, as a boy. Knowing that, the arrival of the dirt makes perfect sense.

Does it help you to sleep?

There is something funny in it, I suppose. I think I recall our first conversation was of being thought of as spooky because we share the plight of being Eastern European with abnormally sharp teeth.

It helps to relax me, if nothing else. I find my sleeping habits are changing rapidly, and have not had time to experiment to see how being away from it affects me.

Ah yes, especially around Halloween, or with small children.

Are you becoming more nocturnal, do you find?

I am. It is not largely an inconvenience yet. I am learning to manage my schedule, but I can feel a weariness settle in when the dawn arrives. It is a strange thing, to be sure.
