Welcome to California, then, and to more overtime than you probably anticipated coming here. You won't see much in the way of house fires or industrial fires, but the environmental fires here are ... well. See for yourself.
The special reason is just where you now live. California is naturally arid and we're in a record drought. It's not unusual for the countryside to burn down on a regular basis. Since they don't do controlled burns here to take care of too much underbrush, and since the Santa Anas cause high winds that whip these fires into a frenzy, these kinds of conflagrations are unfortunately normal.
We've got some fire helicopters on base and usually handle the little stuff ourselves or with help from San Diego, but when something like that happens — and you'd better believe it does — it's not unusual for CalFire to pull fire teams from as far away as Santa Barbara. Actually, when something like that happens, there are usually multiple fires in the area all at the same time.
[Private to Cullen] I'll admit I don't understand half of it either, and am not sure if I should be concerned if and when that strange half starts making sense.
