Most people appreciate gifts that are unexpected and out of the norm. Think about something you know he's wanted, or just something that would mean as much to him as he does to you at this point in your relationship. Say he likes giraffes, you can get him something with a giraffe on it, nothing too fancy, just an appreciation gift that he'll treasure.
