A literal or figurative disaster?

Both! He's terrible!

I promise that he is a good person and not terrible. In fact, I swear on it.

It could not have been that bad. Oh god, what did he do.

I don't have the words for how horrible a man he is. How could you put up with him all these years? He's so rude, and blustery, and doesn't know how to shut up when he needs to.

Maybe you're irritated enough that it will turn into something more? Or I have a bad case of wishful thinking.

We get along quite well. I grew up with him, so I have a much different perspective to offer.

I prefer to call it 'forthright', 'overtly honest', and 'a over-enthusiastic conversationalist'.

He is a blustering jack ass with zero redeeming qualities. Clearly you got the better genes.

Uhh. Thank you. I think? He is my brother though, and I do love him, in a brotherly love sort of way. I assure you, he has redeeming qualities. He's not a bad person. Maybe I can talk to him about listening to you instead of talking, if you would like to give it a second chance?

There's really no harm in that. Is there?

Perhaps this might be a better option, so neither of you takes offense to what the other might say. More than what has happened, already.

What was it he said or did, to cause you to do that?

He insulted my brother.

I'm almost afraid to ask what the actual insult was.

I am sorry he did that. The insult probably wasn't intended? Sometimes he has a tendency to speak out of turn or without considering the consequences of what's being said, before he says it.

I am now officially afraid to ask what the joke was that caused the insult.

All I can tell you is that he probably made an off-color joke and was thinking he was being amusing, and it had the opposite effect.

He is my brother. I know his personality quite well.

I would prefer it if both parties were able to apologize, but even I must admit that it seems my brother is at fault here, even if he was not attempting to be cruel, but misguidedly amusing.

Is there any way in which I can make this up to you? And will you still see fit to attend the weekend paintball tournament? If you don't want to, then that's understandable. I will not attempt to coerce you, to attend.

Misguided is an understatement. I don't know. I just want to punch him in the balls. That would make me feel better.

I somehow doubt that would be constructive, even if it would satisfy you upon having a member of your family be ridiculed in such a manner. My father might also take offense since he is counting on Boromir to carry on the family line. He will need those to be unpunched, in order to do so.

If I can talk to him and make him see some reason in this matter, from your point of view, would you accept an apology? Even if he grumbles it? Or you are both shooting one another with paintballs and Thor is present to make sure neither of you strangle one another?

I am at a loss to any other means of proper recompense.

He should have thought of that before he opened his mouth. He's lucky I don't rip them off and shove them down his throat.

We'll duel.

Perhaps we should wait for tempers to cool. I would feel much better if he apologized and I hope you would feel better if he did that, as well.

A duel?

Is this really necessary, Eowyn? I am attempting to get Boromir more toward seeing the error of his ways. May I at least attempt toward that, before I bring up a duel?

A duel, and you have to stand in as the judge. I'll get you one of those outfits the round holding women in MMA tourneys wear.

I do not think this is a sound idea, even if I have told him that you wish it so.

And while I am willing to stand judge in such a situation, should he accept, and which I have advised him that I would rather this did not happen at all? I will not be wearing an outfit other than my very much male daily attire should this happen.

That is a very odd request, for me to don women's attire. I don't even know what it is they wear, much less does it sound like that which I would agree to.

I've relayed your weapon of choice to him. Are you certain of this choice? Is it not a bit excessive?

And while we are on the topic. Do you really want your opponent's brother to be judge of the duel, or do you believe I shall be utterly unbiased?

I am not saying I will not do so. If this will bring some measure of peace between you both, then I am willing.

I read into it and guessed as much, but did you not read that I denied that particular request? Your quarrel is with my brother, not with me. But it was a nice try, nonetheless. I don't know why you would want to see me in that. It wouldn't be very appealing to look upon. :)

My brother wishes me to tell you that the challenge is accepted.

When would you like this duel to take place?

One might think that you might be attempting to flirt by doing so. Surely, that is not what you are doing. Is it?

Would you like me to wear a pair of cargo shorts, like I wear when I'm teaching classes during the summer term?

That looks like a yes. To the flirting and the shorts. This is unfamiliar territory.

...I don't know if I should be flattered or you should be wary, should they not be as sexy as you are imagining them to be.

But, for the sake of keeping the peace between you and my brother, I will relent and wear the cargo shorts this one time, if you would still like me to be present and trust me to fairly judge your duel.

I must be honest. I feel it is better to apologize when someone is in the wrong. My brother, although I love him, is unfortunately in the wrong. I can apologize in his stead, but you will not accept it. I have gathered as much.

If you feel this is necessary, so be it.
