In well-spoken Japanese, it has a nicer flow to it. Since I don't live in Japan at all, I have learned to tolerate clumsy tongues tripping over themselves while trying to correctly pronounce my full name.
Yumi is perfectly acceptable, since it still has a pleasant ring to it.
