Yes, but I think watching him so utterly deteriorate without her, ruining so many peoples' lives, was -- not entertaining, exactly, because that kind of destruction is never entertaining, but... necessary, I think. I think the story would have been incomplete if it had just left off after she died.
Oh, you should, it's wonderful. It's set in France in the years leading up to the revolution, and there are many protagonists, but my favourites are Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton. I don't want to give too much away, but Sydney is a ruined man in love with Charles' wife, trying to redeem himself through his love for her. It's tragic and beautiful.
