Who: Azula and Ty Lee
What: Making up
When: Late Monday night
Where: Hospital
Status: complete
Rating: PG-13
Triggers: Injuries, mentions of beatdowns

Ty Lee was rarely gone from Azula’s side after she got out of surgery. Even if the doctors kicked her out she snuck back in. Eventually they just let her stay, since she was pretty good at staying out of the way.

Ty Lee held Azula’s good hand, her eyes closed as she leaned back in the extremely uncomfortable hospital chair. She was dozing a little, but not enough to truly qualify as sleep.

Azula was swimming in a haze of pain, and shame. She’d never been beaten that thoroughly before. Not even in her final Agni Kai. It filled her with anger, and it filled her with sadness. Mostly she felt empty.

She felt a presence, and squeezed that hand.

Ty Lee woke with a start when Azula squeezed her hand. She put both of hers around Azula’s and looked up, hoping to meet her eyes. “Azula?”

“Understand..” Azula murmured. Understand what? Why Ty Lee had done that? Or if Ty Lee wanted to leave her now.

Ty Lee didn’t understand, but She did scoot closer. “Oh, I was so worried about you!” She pressed Azula’s good hand against her lips, careful not to jostle the IV too much. “I’m so sorry, Azula. I’m so, so sorry.”

“I’m the fool..” She opened her eyes, and felt like her body was going to float up off the bed. “Ty Lee....?” Her voice sounded forlorn, like she wasn’t sure the other girl was there.

“I’m here, Azula. I’ll always be here for you.” She reached over, stroking Azula’s face softly.

"Don't deserve you." She squeezed Ty Lee's hand tightly. Which wasn't that tight. "Did he hurt you?"

“Not physically.” Ty Lee said, squeezing Azula’s hand back. “He only wanted to hurt you. I’m sorry I helped him do that, even if it was so we could get married. I don’t deserve you, either.” She was trying hard not to cry again. Her eyes and throat were sore from all the other times she’d cried over the past couple days.

Azula still couldn’t quite stand the idea of a man having been in her wife. All that..goo... ew. She wrinkled her nose at the thought, then let it drift away on her haze. “Don..cry. Cry bad..don be..crybaby.” She squeezed again. “Ms’rry. I’m a bitch.”

“Noooo, I love that about you. You’re my bitch.” Ty Lee said, between sniffles.

That brought a smile to Azula’s tired lips. “Shouldn’t have..run off.” It was the closest she’d admit to being outclassed.

“No.” Ty Lee said, sighing a little. “You shouldn’t have. I should have told you his price upfront. Maybe we could have found another way around it.” She shuddered at the memory. It still sickened her when she remembered the way he felt on her, in her.

"We'll get him," Azula promised. She felt like they both needed a lot of baths. She tried to look down at her left hand.

Ty Lee followed Azula’s eyes. The hand was present, but immobilized and heavily bandaged. “The doctors aren’t sure you’ll be able to use it correctly again.” Her voice was very soft. “We were lucky to get it here in time to get it reattached.”

“Kill..him...” She grit her teeth, tears rolling out of the corners of her eyes. “Promise you’ll stay away.”

“No.” Ty Lee’s voice was serious, and her expression matched. “But I won’t fight him alone.”

“No..please no...I lost my...” she snorted. She’d almost said honor, and that sounded so ridiculous and like her brother that she wanted to cry. “I can’t..lose you too.”

“You won’t. If Khamul lives, we’ll always be in danger. I’m ending it.” Ty Lee’s voice was firm. She wouldn’t be swayed. Azula could make her do a lot of things, but she couldn’t force Ty Lee to let this go.

“Ty Lee.....” She exhaled slowly. She was too weak to do anything about it, and that galled her. Her pride had been rent and twisted. Her voice grew tiny. “I was...scared..I thought I’d..drown, before I bled to death. He had something that filled my lungs.”

"I'll be careful, I promise." She kissed Azula's fingers, then bowed her head. "There's one more thing I need to tell you."

“...Nn?” She rolled her head to look at Ty Lee.

Ty Lee’s eyes were on her feet. “He- I’m. . . I haven’t had a period since it happened.”

Azula’s blanket started to smoke. If she could thrash, she would have, but she just had to lay there and seethe.

Ty Lee sobbed again, pressing her hands against her face. “I didn’t notice until he said something about it, and- Oh Azula I’m so sorry.”

There were fresh tears, and Azula struggled to calm down. She reached for Ty Lee’s face. “It won’t..we’ll...take care of it.”

Azula’s touch made Ty Lee sob harder. She slid into bed next to Azula, careful not to disturb her. She pressed her head into Azula’s shoulder, sobbing hard.

Azula exhaled slowly, putting her good hand on the back of Ty Lee’s hair. It was the best she could do right now, as the situation really sank in. Ty Lee was late, and the man who’d made her late had nearly killed her. “Will..need to act before Uncle and Zuko find out.”

Ty Lee nodded. “Gin-” Her voice broke, and she cleared her throat. “We’ll do it. We can.” Gin said they could, and Gin was the best.

She wasn’t even talking about Khamul, but she nodded her head. That would have to do to. She blinked her eyes. “Tired...but...love you. I really love you..please don’t..think I don’t. Was just angry.”

“I know.” Ty Lee said, kissing Azula’s neck softly. “I love you too. You know I would never do that, right? Not with anyone. I’m your wife now, and there’s no one else in the world for me.”

“Don’t want to..be betrayed again...” Azula sniffled. “Once..in the dreams..and now here..”

“I only did it because I thought it was the only way to be my own person. I couldn’t be Ozai’s tool anymore.” She couldn’t hug Azula, and that made her very sad. “I only have eyes for you, Azula.”

Azula closed her eyes, her breathing growing less shallow. She didn’t say anything for a long moment, and it was almost as though she were asleep. “The world is brighter with you in it.”

“You’re everything to me, Azula.” Ty Lee kissed her gently, stroking her face. “You should rest. I’ll be right by your side.” She slowly got out of bed, grabbing her seat again.

Whimpering at the loss of contact, Azula shifted in the direction that Ty Lee had gone, before settling down. She let herself drift off into the haze.
