I really like him, I think.
Who: Zelda and Navi
When: Friday, 4/12
Where: Navi’s Nursery
What: A visit! Probably giggling and squealing
Rating/Warnings: Low/None
Status: Complete

Yesterday was the best day of Zelda’s life. Okay, maybe that’s exaggerating a little, but it was way, way up there. Top five. Top three. Her date with Link was absolutely perfect. It was magical and romantic, and how could it not be? The happiest place on Earth, and all?

Zelda wanted to jump up and down, clap her hands and squee about it. The first person she thought to call was Yuka, but that was awkward. Very awkward. SHe couldnt’ squee at Yuka about her date with link.

NAVI! Why didn’t she think of Navi first? After stopping to pick up a couple of breakfast frappuccinos (one decaf for her pregnant friend) she arrived at the nursery, bouncing on her heels. She could kill two birds with one stone and show Navi the pictures of her completed garden while she was here!

Navi was curled up in the armchair in her office, punching numbers into an Excel document on her laptop. The crummy part of being a business owner was math. Bleh, math.

Zelda was instructed where to find Navi, and knocked on the office door, barely balancing the sugary, coffee drinks in one arm.

“Come in!” Navi called out without looking up, bare feet curled around the edge of the chair. But when the door opened, she saw it was her friend Zelda, the girl she’d so looked up to in the dreams. “Eeee, my hero!”

Zelda laughed as she heard her friend’s exclamation. She beamed, coming into the room, then held out the coffee drink. “I made sure it was caffeine free for you and the little one.” She said, then flopped down in a chair or the edge of a desk, whatever was nearby.

“Aww, thanks!” Navi smiled and took a sip of her drink. “I’ve read conflicting reports about caffeine and pregnancy, but figure it’s better to be safe than sorry.” She put the laptop away after saving, curling up and grinning.

“Well, I have no idea. I mean, I just assumed you probably don’t want the little apricot swirling around in there after having too much stimulant, right?” Zelda grinned at the thought. She used a name of a fruit, remembering their last conversation about ‘fruit salad.’

“Spazzy, hyper kiwi fruit salad baby. Yeah, the last thing I need is her spazzing out on my bladder.” Navi giggled, stirring the whipped cream on the top of her drink into the drink itself. “I’m glad you came by to visit, you’ve saved me from accounting.”

“That’s my job! I’m here to save you from those evil numbers.” She lifted her hands and wiggled her fingers, like a wicked witch, or something. As if evil numbers had fingers. Then she grabbed her drink again and sipped. “...so... I went to Disneyland yesterday with Link.” Her face went bright pink at the mention of it.

“They really are evil. All boring and stupid,” Navi grumbled. But then her face lit up when she heard about Zelda and Link. Just like in her dreams, they were adorable here too. “How’d it gooooo,” she sing-songed.

“It was amazing!” Zelda said, giving a little sigh on the word. Her eyes glossed over a bit as she thought about it. “...we spent the whole day wandering through Disneyland and California Adventure, and cuddling up close on some of the rides...” She’d even kissed his cheek on the Doom Buggy. “And then the fireworks, and riding the Matterhorn in the dark park... it was great!”

“He didn’t flail at the cuddling?” Navi’s eyes went wide. “Woooow, he really does like you.” Navi knew Link pretty well; she didn’t think he was the sort of guy to be suave. It added to his charm.

“No,” Zelda blushed deeply. “He was... cool.” That word brought a grin to her face. She’d meant his attitude, not his temperature. Truth was, he always seemed warm to Zelda. He had strong, weathered hands that always felt warm when they touched. “I really like him, I think.”

That was enough to bring on a Mach 1 Navi Squeal. (If she could’ve patented it, she’d have made a fortune from people who wanted dogs to hear loud noises and grow irritable.) Bouncing in her chair, she moved to her knees. It was easier to control her wings that way. “Oh, you two are so cute together! Have you told him you really like him?”

“Um... no,” Zelda said, almost shyly. As famous as she was, and as many people as she’d been seen with, Zelda hadn’t had many boyfriends. She didn’t really know how to go about all of this. “I haven’t. Should I? Do I just.. say it like that? Or, can I text him?”

“You can text him, but I’d say it in person. That’s just me, though.” Navi wondered if that sort of romantic thing was okay to say in a text. Link might appreciate it, on the one hand.

Zelda chewed on her lip for a moment, considering. She really should say it in person. She had no idea when she was going to see him next. Maybe she should wait until he contacted her? Hopefully he would. She was willing to give him a couple days before sending him a text. He’d call, right? Or something?

“I fell asleep on him on the way home.” She confessed, blushing. “I think he fell asleep, too.”

“That is the cutest thing I’ve ever heard,” Navi squealed. She bit her lip, bouncing a little. “He probably won’t call you right away. He’s shy, you know.”

Zelda went very very pink. She smiled shyly, chewing on the straw sticking up out of her coffee drink. “Is he? He won’t? Oh. Do you think... you think he will, though? I mean, I’d like for him to. Should I call him instead?”

“I’d call him if I were you. He’s shy, I’m sure he’d like it.” Navi couldn’t help but squee a bit more, sipping her drink as she bounced. “You’re doing some of the work for him!”

“It’s not... desperate? I don’t want him to think I’m desperate.” Zelda said, swinging her feet a little. “I mean, I want him to think I’m cool, you know? Really cool. Cucumber cool.” ...she may have been a little nerdy.

“You’re a pretty girl who likes him. He thinks you’re cool.” Navi laughed to herself, curling a knee up to her chest.

“How long should I wait to call? Or text? Or... I could just send him a note on Valarnet, too. That’s easy. And casual. I want it to seem casual. I don’t want him to think I’m some crazy stalker.” Zelda took another sip from her coffee.

“What, you’re going to send him a message that says you like him and want to see him again? Hmm. Maybe a day or so? A day and a half? I’m bad at not seeming like a crazy stalker, I had sex with Pete like, two hours after I met him. Then he moved in a week or so later. ... I kind of wanted him around.” Navi giggled at herself, covering her face with her hands.

Zelda went incredibly pink. "Oh. Wow, that's fast! I haven't. .. um. .. Since high school. It wasn't all that great. I just haven't had any interest." She confessed. As much as the tabloids liked to speculate, Zelda wasn't a Virgin, but she wasn't completely innocent, either.

“Honestly, it gets good when you’re with someone you like. Random unfs are boring. See, people are like cars, I think, when it comes to that. Sure, the pedals and stuff are pretty obvious - this one’s go, this one’s stop - but you don’t know all the subtle ways to drive it until you’ve done it a bunch. Driving a new car for the first time is just weird.” Navi winced. “Pete was sort of like finding my dream car. All ... shiny and rumply and pretend grumpy.”

"I guess I don't know how to drive, then." Zelda said, softly. Then her face fell into a slightly terrified expression. "That's not going to be a problem, is it?"

“I don’t think he really does either. I think he got a learner’s permit?” Navi shrugged. “And he’s sweet. Even if he was a race car driver, he’d teach you because he likes you.”

Zelda probably wouldn’t mind being taught. As long as they went slow, and stopped when she said to instead of guilt-tripping her into things she wasn’t ready for... Link didn’t seem the type to brag about it afterward, either. Though, she was a little curious as to how Navi knew ... what she knew. Zelda cleared her throat.

“... learner’s permit, huh?” She asked. “So long as he’s not a manslut, or anything,” she teased. “Do you... um... know how many girlfriends he’s had?”

“Oh, I don’t think he’s had any. Maybe one. Maybe.” Navi giggled, biting her lip. “I’ve had more than he has.”

"More girlfriends?" Zelda asked, thinking instantly about Yuka and being kissed by the other girl. Then her phone went off. She pulled it from her pocket to check who the message was from and went bright pink. "Speak of the devil," she said, then gave Navi a smirk before typing out a response. Her fingers flew fast on the keys, an experienced texter.

“Well, yeah, I like - “ Navi’s phone buzzed too, and she grabbed it off of her desk, giggling when she saw it was link. Navi bit her lip as she tapped out an answer. A mostly uppercase answer. “Oh my gosh, now you don’t have to worry about texting him, Zellie!”

Zelda laughed. She was giddy. Positively giddy. “...I didn’t expect him to text me right away!” The blush on her cheeks was growing deeper and deeper. Soon she was more maroon than pink. Through the rest of the conversation she took a moment every few minutes to send Link a response, and every time the flush re-gained foothold.

“Oh, Gosh, what if he really does like me? Like me like me. Not just... y’know.. friends?” She was torn between looking a little terrified and grinning at that thought. It’d been a while since Zelda had been romantic with anyone. This all felt new again.

“I’m pretty sure he does,” Navi beamed. She moved to hug her friend, bouncing a little with her.

Zelda gave a laugh, returning Navi’s hug. She was so excited. A little scared, a little nervous that she was reading too far into things, but she was thrilled. “I should go home and water my garden! OH!” She pulled an envelope of pictures out of her purse and held it out to Navi. “...you should see. It’s finished! Sam Gamgee came over and helped. He says we should all have Caprese salad once the tomatoes come in!”

“Oooh, we should! Sam’s the sweetest person in the whole wide world, not gonna lie. He’s like, adorable and I want to hug him.” She beamed, looking at the photos and feeling her eyes swelling with tears. To her, the photos were like children on holiday, waving and posing for their mother.

“He was so kind! And very handsome.” Zelda said, blushing a little bit. “I mean, he didn’t have to give me all that help, but I’m so thankful for it. I hope we’ll be great friends.” She had harbored a little interest in Sam that had tapered off a little during the most amazing date of her life ever with Link yesterday. “My work schedule is going to be super busy from now on, though. I hope that I’ll have time to keep up with friends! I have to drop out of school this semester to make the movie.”

“Hopefully they’ll let you withdraw, and you can go back if you want to. But I’m pretty sure that Link will like you even if you’re busy, you know.” Navi couldn’t help but squee some more, bouncing up and down in her chair.

Zelda went very, very pink again. “...I hope so. Because I’d like him, too, even if he was busy.”
