Who: Zuko + Azula
What: Another rare case of siblings getting along
When: Sat. 4/6
Where: Bahamas Vacation
Rating: Low
Status: Complete

So far things were going well, right? Right. Zuko was more tanned after a half a week here than he had been from the entire last summer in California, which was really just saying a lot. He was nearly relaxed. They were all having fun, and it was just so easy to put off worries about what was happening back home.

Sometimes a vacation really was the way to go.

Draco had run out to go do -- something. ...Zuko wasn't really sure what. He was fairly positive it had something to do with food. Probably a good idea, since the Japanese boy had taken more of a liking to those blue tropical drinks than he ought have and some food might balance all that out a bit.

He sat at the pool of the place they were staying at (a little silly since the beach wasn't that far off, but whatever), feet dipped lazily in the water.

Whatever strangeness that had kept Azula’s clothing either disappearing or turning into (ugh) water tribe garb had stopped, and for that she was grateful. She didn’t mind, so much. It helped her get an all over tan. But it had made some of her plans a little more difficult to pull off.

“You know there’s a beach, right Zuzu? It’s just over there. Are you afraid of all the fish?” Azula plopped down beside him, clad in her stylish one-piece black and red swimsuit. It still left most of her back exposed, and a large part of her stomach, but covered the bullet scar.

Zuko glanced up at his younger sister, and scowled -- but really, the overly warm weather and poolside service suited him, and it was clear he wasn’t really annoyed. “Why would I be afraid of fish?” he asked, kicking his feet in the water of the pool. “I’m waiting on Draco to get back.” Which begged the question of where Ty Lee had gone off to, as well.

“Sharks, stingrays, those little fishes that swim up little Zuzu?” She flashed him a smile. “I sent Ty Lee to fetch some ice cream. I wanted to talk to you about something.”

Zuko only rolled his eyes at that (although, she had a little bit of a point about sharks -- maybe he shouldn’t have watched Shark Week last year.), but shrugged and gave a vague gesture to the spot beside him.

“What’s up, then?” He asked, a little worried Azula might be coming onto the topic of their father and uncle.

She crossed her legs, leaning forward and trailing her fingers in the water. She looked all of her age and vulnerable, a rare state for Azula. “How much do you love Draco? Do you consider him an equal? Does he?”

That hadn’t really been the conversation that Zuko had been expecting. At all, really. Still, he considered the question with the air of seriousness that he was always known for. No need to start skimping.

“More than I have anyone, I guess,” he said, because he didn’t know how to measure his feelings. All he really knew was that he never got annoyed with or bored of his boyfriend like he did most others. “Of course he’s an equal.” A pause, as he regarded his sister, as if almost wary. “Why?”

“I don’t think Ty Lee believes she is. I know I’m not the easiest to deal with and I can be a little teensy bit imperious....” She shrugged a shoulder, and lifted her head. “I want to prove it to her. So I have this brilliant plan.”

Teensy bit. That was a joke. Then again, just because someone had a more commanding presence didn’t exactly mean they weren’t an equal. From what he’d seen on the vacation anyway, Ty Lee didn’t treat Azula too strangely.

“Okay?” He asked, raising his eyebrow and prompting her to go on. He had to admit he liked it when his sister acted like a normal sisterly-type, and so he saw no reason to be rude and make her behave otherwise.

“Lets have a double wedding.”

To say Zuko paused would be an understatement. It was a bit more like freezing in place, a strange look of panic crossing his features. “A--what?”

“A double wedding. Ty Lee and I, and you and Draco.” Azula looked at him like he was dense and this wasn’t the hardest subject to comprehend.

And he looked right back at her as if maybe it just was. Because weren’t marriages things that people -- like. Planned on? Or...? Zuko blinked. Rubbed his hands against his eyes as if trying to massage the idea into his brain. Shocking as it had been to hear, it didn’t exactly not sit well with him. He could... see it. Sort of.

“Is that even legal?” he had to ask, because apparently he was the one who worried about things like that. But his question more or less said he wasn’t opposed

“Depends on where we have it. It’s not legal in California yet, but they’d recognized the rights as a Civil Union.” She’d done her research. She knew where they could go, and what they’d need to do when they got back.

“Oh,” said Zuko, a little blankly. He felt stupid, slow. A little sick. It was probably a natural sort of reaction. For, you know, when his little sister decided it was time for the both of them to get married. “Don’t we need rings or something?” He asked, followed closely by: “What if they say no?”

“They won’t say no!” She looked a little freaked at the idea. “They can’t say no. Why would they say no?!” It hadn’t even occurred to her that they might say no. She just hoped that Iroh took care of their father or things would be awkward.

He didn’t necessarily think they would say no (in fact, if he had to take time to think on it, he suspected Draco would definitely say yes. At the very least because then Zuko would have no reason to not move in with him). He just liked being prepared. Still.

“They won’t,” he said quickly, because well, it was kind of negative of him. And Zuko was trying really hard not to be negative these days. Sort of. “Rings?” he asked again.

“There’s a store in the town,” Azula said, smiling. “Very high class rings. Price isn’t an object. I already got their ring sizes.” She was trying very hard to not manipulate things into her favor. It would have been easy to goad Zuko into agreeing, and nearly as easy as to guilt their lovers into it.

She was trying very hard not to do that.

It was duly noted, too. Somewhere in the back of Zuko’s mind. Not that he really thought his sister would ever care enough to push him into random matrimony. He pulled his feet out from the pool, arranged himself so that his legs were crossed underneath him. He was silent for a short time, not even bothering to wonder why Azula might have Draco’s ring size already.

“... Okay.” he said, after a time. Because he saw no reason not to. It was one of Azula’s finer ideas really. Then again, they both were hot headed and impulsive, so this all did kind of make sense. “When?”

“The rings have already been ordered. I made sure to select ones that wouldn’t...get in the way of an active lifestyle while still being pretty.” Azula had been sorely tempted to get the flashiest rings she could buy, but had had a moment of common sense. “The diamonds are inset and won’t catch on anything. We just need to fly to a place that’ll marry us.”

Zuko blinked at that, because well, it was a little weird for his little sister to be picking out his wedding ring. On the other hand, he could see himself staring at rings until he was blue in the face. Details like those were useless, and he saw no reason to concern himself with them.

“I expect,” he said, a bit dryly. “that you know of a place and have a plane booked. Let me ask a better question: when is the flight out? I should probably, you know, ask my boyfriend, unless we’re planning to keep that a secret.”

“Tonight.” She smiled cheerfully. “We can propose at dinner, I already got us reservations. Very swanky. Good place to either embarrass ourselves or become very, very happy.”

Zuko considered this for another short moment, and then gave a half nod. “Alright,” he said, acquiescing. “I’ll wear a tie.” Because that was what you did. He guessed.

She got to her feet and clapped him on the shoulder. “And I have a dress I bought just for this occasion. Buck up, brother. We’re really going to piss off father.”
