Thor smiled as he arrived at the cafe, and headed to the counter to order. It had been a long day, and he had flown back from New Zealand, met with his fiance, and then showered and come here. He was pretty sure, no matter how many cups of coffee he got, he would sleep well tonight.
He was smiling, feeling good about things, as he stood in line. He glanced around to see if Darcy was there.
Mmm coffee and donuts. That sounded like a good thing to Darcy. She had got to the new place a bit before and then waved when she saw Thor. “Hey big guy,” she said when she joined him in line.
“How’s it hanging?”
Thor smiled fondly at her. “Rather tiredly now. My fiance was glad to see me.” He grinned at her. If she asked him...
He gave her a one-armed hug. “How are you?”
Darcy gave a snort of amusement. “Yeah I bet she was.” Though she was not going to ask. Cause eww.
She hugged him and shrugged. “I’m good. As usual.”
“Oh? Good.” He hugged her again and smiled. “It’s good to see you smiling. Your post was amusing.” He arched an eyebrow at her. “Which reminds me...” And he was interrupted by having to order, and then step out of the way to wait.
“Yeah well can’t keep me down for long.” She shrugged and moved forward with him in the line. “Can’t help that my top keeps coming off. It just happens lately.” Ah yes. Her turn to order. After a moment, she looked back at him. “What were you going to say?”
Thor chuckled. “My pants and closet full of clothing all vanished. It’s an odd day.” Thor smiled. He had finally managed to get new clothing. But it had been weird. “I beg your pardon if my pants suddenly disappear.”
Then he concentrated and nodded. “I was going to ask-” And he was interrupted by his order coming up, which he grabbed and moved toward a table for them.
“Poor us. It’s a wonder you and I are here with any clothes at all.” She was used to odd though. Darcy just rolled with the punches. “I’ll forgive you if you forgive me.” Then maybe they could cover each other with menus.
She smirked as he got sidetracked again and grabbed her donut and coffee and went to sit at the table across from him.
“Of course.” He nodded as he settled down and smiled at her. “Other than clothing getting frisky and dates being asked, how have you been?” He hadn’t seen her since the crazy night when they had made plans, and a few times when he had swung by to give paperwork to her for the new company.
“I’m pretty good. Can’t complain. Not much is going on I’m afraid. Just kind of hanging out. Going to work. The nakedness is the coolest thing that’s happened in a while. How about you?” she asked, sipping her coffee and taking a bite of her donut.
“Mostly been working, though that’s been stalled since the nakedness and clothing changes are even too random for Hollywood.” He snerked and shook his head. “Things are good with Natasha, and it seems like, other than small things like this and the singing, things are very quiet.”
He felt rather glad about that.
“You mean you’re not on TMZ with your wardrobe malfunctions? I’m surprised.” Actually she kind of was. It seemed like TMZ would be all over that shit. “Cool, I’m glad things are good. Have you guys set a date yet?”
“I managed to avoid it, so far. Maybe someone is keeping TMZ busy.” He grinned wider when she spoke and shook his head. “Nope. We’re aiming for fall, but we’re having fun just being fiances for now. Details can wait a little longer.” He nodded.
“Could be. I mean with so many naked people out there, I bet they have their hands full covering it all.” Though she liked to rib him about his celebrity status. She was just raking in the celeb friends, wasn’t she? “That’s cool. I trust that I’ll have an invitation? Or you’ll see me cry.”
Thor chuckled and nodded. “No doubt. I wonder how many kids were traumatized at Disneyland?” It should not have made him snort, but it did.
“Actually, I was hoping I might ask you to be one of my Groomspeople. I have a best person, and I wanted to have you stand with me as well, when i am married.” He snapped a finger. “And to invite you to the screening of my movie, of course, In London, when it opens, next year.”
She made a face and then laughed. “Those poor kids,” she said with a giggle. She could just picture all the little kids faces that were traumatized. Good thing she’d gone to Disneyland before that.
“Really? Well of course I will. That’s really.. thanks.” She smiled at him, obviously touched by his asking. She’d never been in a wedding before. “And of course I’ll go to the screening of your movie. I’m all over that.”
“Indeed.” Thor nodded. He had been there and luckily not had any accidents, but he had heard there were many.
“You will? Thank you. I consider you to be one of the best people I know, Darcy, and I could not see doing this without you.” Thor smiled softly. “And thank you. I have seats saved for the release for my close friends.”
Her cheeks blushed a bit and she waved it off like it was nothing. “One of the best people? Oh please. Like I would give up a chance to miss all of that. Have you asked your brother yet?”
Thor reached out to gently take one of her hands. “One of the very best.” He nodded. “You are important to me, my friend.”
Thor nodded. “To the opening, yes. Not to the wedding yet, other than when I told you both that night about it. I feel almost nervous. Some. A lot.” He smiled sheepishly.
Darcy squeezed his hand and shrugged a little. “You’re important to me too, big guy. And you should ask him. What have you got to be nervous about? It’s just Loki.”
“He is the smarter, stronger, and more put-together brother. I find I am sometimes very intimidated by him.” Thor looked down for a moment, some of that insecurity peeking through. His brother had always been the man he had looked up to.
“He’s not smarter or stronger.. stronger? Really? He’s like a skinny twig. You’re all muscle.” She gave a snort of amusement. “You shouldn’t be intimidated. He’s just got that whole.. air of mystery thing. You’re the one getting married.”
Thor smiled softly. “Not strong like that...” He nodded to her. “But I take your meaning. Thank you.” He glanced at her. “Will you be trying to pierce that mystery?”
Ah, the other type of strong. Strong in willpower. “Okay, I get you there. But seriously, you could break him like a twig. He needs to eat more.” She couldn’t help but laugh, well up until he asked about piercing his mystery. “What? No. That’s a whole bag of cats.”
Thor chuckled. “Maybe you should tell him that.” He grinned. at her. Her words about a bag of cats made him facepalm. “A bag of cats?”
“Oh I have. All the time. I’m constantly shoving food at him. I don’t know where he puts it all.” If only she had that problem. “I just mean he’s very uh.. y’know, not big with the emotions stuff. He’d probably laugh at me.”
Thor smiled at her. “Maybe. But I don’t think he’d laugh at you, really, Darcy. He’s rather fond of you, I think, from the way he has looked.” He grinned at her.
She rolled her eyes a bit. “He doesn’t look at me like that. Even if he did, I told you. I’m just.. it would just end in heartbreak.”
Thor hmmed. “OKay. I think it could end well, but I don’t want to push you. I just wish things went better for you.” He hated that her life was not happy in that area.
There was a shrug of her shoulders, "I'm just not meant for that whole love thing. Your brother deserves better." She wished it was better too, but shit happened.
Thor blinked, opened his mouth, then closed it. “I don’t know about the first statement, but the second? Darcy, there are few on this earth who would qualify as ‘better’ than you.” He nodded sincerity in his eyes and voice.
"I love you both, but I'm really not.. y’know, what you make me out to be. You make me sound like a saint. I'm not terrible, I'm just no good at love. And in that way, yeah he deserves better. I don't want to hurt him and then make our friendship end because I'm an asshole," she explained.
“You’re not a saint, Darcy, but you are smart, and strong, and sexy.” He eyed her. “I do not think you are an asshole, and... I don’t think you not being lucky in love means your are no good at it.”
He sighed. “I’m sorry, I should not be arguing with you. I just care.”
“See you think all those things, but I’m not. I barely have a college education. Strong maybe, but only because I deal with a lot of shit and sexy isn’t.. I mean I sound confident because you kind of have to be. It’s okay, I don’t mind arguing. You’re just not going to win.” She smiled slightly.
“Afraid that’s exactly what it means though. When the nicest, sweetest guy doesn’t want you? It means you’re fucked up.”
Thor sighed. “No, it doesn’t. Steve had his own issues.” He pointed at Darcy. Without a college education or not, you are still smart, and strong, because yes, you did have to deal with a lot, and you did so well. And yes, you are sexy, Darcy, even if you don’t actually feel confident.” He nodded softly.
“I believe in you.”
She smiled and patted him on the shoulder. “It doesn’t matter, there’s no way that your brother is interested in me. I’m like your little sister. That you find sexy. In a not gross way.”
Thor facepalmed.
“Whatever you say, Darcy,” Then he changed the subject. “Would you like to do a two day walk on cameo shot with a short speaking part in my movie? You’d have to say yes in the next twenty four hours, and come to shooting on Monday, but it’s a role and it’s yours if you want it.”
Very good idea. He was going to have to work on Loki and not her. Darcy’s eyes lit up though. “Seriously? That would be awesome! I totally am in. I can get someone to cover for me at work.” No problem. She wasn’t sure that she’d be any good, but at least walking around in the background might be fun.
Thor nodded. “I hoped you would. It’s always nice to have someone there and just randomly inserted. I try to do it in every film I can swing it in. This time, there is a role for you!” He nodded. “Think you can point a camera and look surprised?”
“Well I would be honored. I could be the next Marilyn Monroe..” she snorted in amusement. At least they had the same body type. It sounded like fun though. “Yeah dude, I got that in the bag.” She put on her best surprised face and gasped.
Thor grinned and nodded. “I’ll send you the exact time and place for filming when I get home. Thank you, Darcy.” He smiled wider. She was a rather amazing person.
“How is everything else going for you?”
“You’re welcome. And thanks for asking me.” She looked quite pleased. “Um.. y’know.. okay, I guess? I’m okay now that I have a place to live.”
“Anytime.” He nodded, then smiled. “I’m glad you found one. I did think to offer you a place at my old house, but if you are settled, then no matter.” He smiled wider. “It is good to see you doing well.”
“Really? That’s sweet. If my roommate turns out to be a nutjob.. or kicks me out .. again. I will be sure to take you up on that maybe. I’m just glad to be settled again. Though I haven’t unpacked so much. I keep thinking.. he will kick me out y’know? I’m never going to settle down.” She sighed a bit and then shrugged.
“I hope he won’t. You deserve stable and good life, but if he does, my house is ever open to you.” He handed over a key. “The only others who come and go are a steward and my fanmail opener. Otherwise, it is all deserted.”
“I think he’s an okay kid. Don’t think there’s a chance he’s gonna kill me or anything. But he might figure out I’m crazy and doesn’t want me living there. You’ll be first to know though,” she laughed a little and then took the key. “Cool, you’re the best. Thanks.”
Thor shook his head. He disagreed with her a lot, and he wished he could change her mind on how she saw herself. Damn it all. he smiled, though at her, with warm eyes. “You’re my friend, Darcy, what else would I do?”
Ah yes well he was going to have to work harder on that part. She both thought she was amazing and full of crap at the same time. It was a difficult balance. She wanted to be loved, but she just didn’t know if she was capable of not fucking things up. “Uh.. well you know, you can be friends with someone and not give them lots of things. But since I am poor, I happily take them.” She winked at him.
He snorted. “I believe that money and power exist only to help your friends and ruin your enemies.” he nodded. He raised his glass to her.
“To you, Darcy, and I am glad you are in my life.”
Darcy just giggled at that. “I’m all for that. If I ever get any money that is.” She raised her glass and then sipped it. “Thanks big guy. I’m glad you’re in my life too.”
