Of course there were better parks for roller coasters, ones that looked like thrill ride breeding grounds, like Knotts Berry Farm or Universal Studios, but Obi-Wan had selected Disneyland because the evil one knew was better than the evil one didn't. He'd accompanied Frodo and Merrill there once. He'd ridden Space Mountain and survived, though he couldn't say his feelings towards coasters were any different. They made his stomach churn and his head pound; they made him perspire and, frankly, Obi-Wan was embarrassed by the theatrics.
He was a grown man with a completely unreasonable fear and he was through tolerating it.
The time he'd spent linked to Kitty had awakened Obi-Wan to two realizations. One) Life was not just short, but incredibly short and utterly uncontrollable -- and he was not as okay with this as he'd believed until the plane crash that took Xi'an. Two) Something that crippled you with fear was something that had to conquered.
So, the roller coaster was a mountain unto itself, but it was somewhat symbolic of atoning for how he'd been steamrolled by pain and anger. He needed to bury and stomp on what terrified him, especially if he was seriously planning to marry Faiza. He needed to know he could be as brave as he was in his dreams, in the face of something that made him quake. He needed something concrete to look back on. He needed a place to start.
It was bright and early and the park had just opened. The lilting melody of The Golden Afternoon from Alice in Wonderland came from unseen speakers, while characters from Pinocchio posed for photos in front of the gate. Obi-Wan slipped his ticket into his back pocket and looked over his shoulder for Loras. They'd been to a gay bar once, but perhaps coming here together was officially the gayest thing they had ever done.
