Nikola was making dinner. He enjoyed cooking, for the most part. Especially when he had someone else to cook for. It was rare that cooking felt like a waste of time, though occasionally he didn’t want to waste it. Those were the times he went without eating. It made him grumpy, but possibly less grumpy than having to waste time cooking.

He was in the kitchen, pouring wine into the skillet to make a sauce. It was the last step in his plan, something to pour over the beef and vegetables. There was also rice, though he probably wouldn’t have much of it.

Humming as she fit her key into the door, Lulu came home from work. Pepsi was in tow as he usually was, but the dog was so well mannered and calm that upon entering the home, he simply ran to play with his toys. She groaned as she took off her heels, one hand fussing with her hair to take it out of the updo she’d worn it in that day. “Nikola?” She smiled as she called out to him.

“Kitchen.” Nikola called out. He was growing used to the sounds the animal made around the home, the feel of having another human and another creature living with him. At first the night time sounds had woken him, but now he was almost completely used to it. He turned to look at her when she came in and gave her a soft, tentative smile. “How was your day?”

She smiled brightly at him, finally freeing her hair from the confines of bobby pins and shaking it loose. “Long. How was yours?” She moved to kiss him, tiptoeing up and tugging him down a bit by his lapels. Something about his voice, his curiously clipped vocal cadence, made her happy like few things in the world would or could.

“Not quite as long as yours, I suspect.” Nikola responded, then let himself be tugged down and returned the kiss, breaking into a smile at it. His hand lifted to cup her cheek and he trailed his thumb gently along her soft skin. “Hello, beautiful.”

“Only because I spend mine in heels.” She smiled up at him, liking the soft way he was looking down at her. “Hello, handsome. I missed you today, you know.” And she had; there’d been a customer she’d wanted to strangle, and somehow she knew that he’d say the exact thing to put the woman in her place. She only hadn’t because the woman was an above average customer.

Nikola just gave a soft chuckle. “You don’t have to wear them, you know.” He said, then tapped another quick kiss against her lips before releasing her completely to turn his attention back to the sauce that was simmering on the stove. “I know.” He said, gently. There was a playful smirk on his features and he turned to glance at her. “I missed you, too. I miss you every day.” Beat. “Jesus, Lu, you’ve turned me into an obedient puppy dog.”

“Of course I have to wear them. They make my legs look better, which makes my skirt look more impressive, which helps me get more sales.” Leaning against the counter, she smiled at him, then laughed at his statement. “Oh, you’re hardly obedient or a puppy, Nikola. You do exactly what you wish, when you wish.” And she loved that about him. She loved that they were both willful, headstrong people who just liked being in each other’s company.

Nikola chuckled. “Couldn’t you just make a more impressive skirt?” He teased, giving her a little grin. “Well, that’s true. But you do have me wrapped around your little finger.” He turned off the burner and set the sauce aside.

“Are you hungry? I have dinner ready to dish up.”

“I could make a shorter one, certainly, but I do try to maintain decorum at work.” She smiled at him, nodding a bit. “Starving, I worked straight through lunch.” She loved when he smiled; it always made his eyes deeper, made the lines in his face dissolve into something that just made her knees weak.

“Go sit. I’ll bring this in.” He motioned around the kitchen. “Take that bottle and pour us each a glass,” he added, meaning the bottle of red that was sitting on the counter, breathing. He turned to dish up the food, and in a few minutes they were seated at the table in the dining room, enjoying steak, vegetables, rice and a delicious red wine sauce.

Lulu followed his instructions, and soon enough she was thinking about how grateful she was that her boyfriend could cook. Otherwise, for her, it would be Chinese food yet again. Her eyes were closed in gustatory bliss, a dreamy smile on her face as she chewed. Once she’d swallowed, she shook her head and took Nikola’s hand. “You, Doctor, are a marvel.”

Nikola chuckled, chewing, then lifted his glass for a sip to wash it down. He gave a nod. “That I am.” And grinned at her, holding up his glass as if in a toast. “I’m glad you like.” He could cook for her every day of the rest of their lives, he thought. And that was a scary thought.

She toasted back, smiling lopsidedly. “And so humble, too.” She leaned back, looking at him and shaking her head. “I’m always eternally grateful you’re in my life because I happen to love you very much, but as a close second, I’m sure you’re helping to improve my health. MSG used to be my main food group.”

“It’s hard to be humble when you’re as great as I am.” Nikola teased, though he really did mean every word. He gave a chuckle. “Well, I need you healthy. Good, strong muscles and clean blood.” The last bit came out before he could stop himself, and he frowned slightly before going on, “it wouldn’t do to wear you out completely.”

She was well aware that he meant everything, and she laughed happily at it. But his phrasing made her raise an eyebrow. “And whyever would that be, Doctor?” She pitched her voice low a bit, leaning forward to kiss him lightly.

“Isn’t it obvious?” Nikola asked, swirling the wine around in his glass.

“Your dreams?” She cocked her head to the side, curious.

“I have more plans for you than just what’s coming in my dreams.” The powers in his dreams were remarkable, and a part of him was hoping they’d come to this world as well as the dream world. “More plans for our future together.” Hint hint.

“Oh, dear. Should I be frightened?” Lulu assumed he’d booked a vacation somewhere, or something else equally romantic. He was the sort to do that.

"I hope not." Nikola said, softly. He shifted in his chair. "I think you and I need to have a discussion. I've been thinking, and I've come to a decision. I want to get married, and have children."

Lulu had been drinking her wine, and she couldn’t help but feel her eyes go wide. She managed to swallow it instead of spittaking, and she turned to look at him. “Are you … are you proposing, Nikola?”

“More testing the waters,” Nikola replied. He knew that she would appreciate more of a romantic gesture if he was going to propose. This conversation was about him figuring out if she was amenable to the idea.

“Yes,” she murmured. He hadn’t been proposing, but she was answering anyway. “I’ll say yes whenever you do it. I’m saying yes now.” Her cheeks were quite pink, and normally entirely, perfectly composed Lulu stood up so she could sit in his lap and kiss the breath out of him.

Nikola hadn’t been expecting that response. Not that it was unwelcome. He wrapped his arms around her, hugged her close against him, and kissed her hungrily. One of his hands came up to cup her cheek and he smiled at her. “Let’s get married,” he said, then. Maybe this was romantic enough for a proposal.

“I’d do it now if you wanted,” she laughed. Kissing him again, she ran her fingers through his hair, feeling her heart thudding in her chest. And he’d wanted children! She didn’t think that she’d hallucinated that. “You know, we will have to try more often if you want children.”

“What a shame. Not sure I could handle that.” Nikola teased, then leaned in and kissed her lips, gently. “You’re ready for that?” He asked, softly. “You mentioned once how you have all the time in the world.”

“I do, but … “ She closed her eyes, laughing into his neck. “Jefferson’s daughter got me thinking.” The little girl was just so filled with light. Lulu had immediately been jealous, had thought that motherhood would never come to her. “But I don’t mind being wrong.”

Nikola nodded. “Let’s get started, then.” He paused. “Do whatever it is you need to do to get pregnant. We’ll plan a small wedding in the next few weeks, and start trying to put a baby in you.” He lowered his hand to rest against her abdomen. It was a bit thrilling to think of his own genetic material being passed on to the next generation.

“God, another Tesla in the world.” Lulu let her hands rest on top of his. “I hope the world is ready.” She felt her eyelids flutter shut, and she was tempted to reach out and pinch herself. “I hope I’m not dreaming this,” she murmured. It felt like she could have been. Plus, if he dreamed he was a vampire, would he even be able to father children?

He’d said he wanted to get started. So Lulu stood up and unzipped her dress, letting it fall to her feet. “Shall we, then?”

“Definitely not a dream.” Nikola purred, his hands wandering over her body. Now he was starting to get possessive. She was his. He stood after the dress hit the floor to chase her into the bedroom.

That just made her laugh. She continued to walk toward the bedroom, stripping out of her bra and panties and tossing them backward at him. “You know, for an impromptu proposal that wasn’t really one to begin with, you’ve done quite well.”

“I’m a little surprised at how well that went, actually,” Nikola admitted, stripping off his own clothes as he followed after her.

“Really? I assumed you knew I’d say yes.” Lulu smirked over her shoulder at him. “I’d have said yes for a long time, Doctor Tesla.” Lulu Tesla. It sounded good to her.

He tossed his clothes to the side of the bed near the bin, and then stepped up to her to wrap his arms around her. “You fall fast, Lu.” He said. “I don’t know if I was ready before. But I am now.”

And he kissed her. Hungrily. The kiss of a man who was seconds away from throwing his woman down on the bed and having his way with her.

“I’m a woman who knows what I want.” She liked that he’d taken to calling her by her childhood nickname; it somehow felt right that he call her Lu. So few people did, but those who had were the people she loved best.

Returning his kiss, she could feel that he loved her, could tell that he was ready. It was enough to make her shiver. His kiss was more demanding than usual, and it made her whimper.

The whimper was good. It almost made him growl. He kissed her harder, pushing her back toward the bed and helping her down onto it. It was obvious by the strength behind his movements, the lack of hesitation, how much he wanted her.

And his dreams were having a bit of an effect on him. She liked it, and she fell backward, sprawling out and looking up at him expectantly.

He nearly attacked her there on the bed. His body moved with super-human speed, hands moving to caress her, lips finding her neck. One hand moved down between her legs to explore her skin, slipping fingers between her folds, touching her the way he knew she enjoyed being touched. He grazed his teeth against the soft skin of her neck.

Arching her neck, Lulu purred as his teeth grazed the skin. “Harder?” The request came out as a whisper, a quiet entreaty for him to actually bite her. Her hips moved against his hand, and she sighed happily.

He obliged. His teeth came down a bit harder against her skin, hungrier now than before. His hand moved with more force, massaging those places he knew she liked. He moved above her after a moment, and knee’d her legs apart so he could lay down on top of her, pressing against her.

It was better when he marked her skin, for some reason. And knowing that they were trying to get pregnant, that they were going to get married soon - she felt her toes curl and run her toes along the line of his calf. “Did you have this planned all day, Doctor?” Her pet name for him, an affectionate question.

“No.” Nikola responded gently. He lowered a hand down between them, guiding himself to her entrance, and pushed forward. A gentle groan escaped him as he filled her to the hilt. “Not at all.” He turned to press kisses against the side of her face, then lowered his head to bite her neck again as his hips started to rock against her.

She didn’t believe him, but his teeth on her neck was heaven. Sighing contentedly, she pulled him closer, running her fingernails down his back. “Mmm, you’re good at improvisation, then.”

“I am.” He gave a grin against her skin, then started to move in earnest. He wanted this--wanted her--so he let her see how much. His strong arms held him up above her, and his hips moved into hers, keeping it shallow at first. He wanted to last for her. A long time. To give her pleasure over and over before taking his own.
Kissing him deeply, Lulu dug her fingernails into his shoulders, knowing that they both enjoyed a little bit of pain. Nipping his lower lip, she raised her hips upward, trying to meet him and whimpering when they met each other. “Fuck,” she murmured, the curse well met.

“Mmmhmmm,” Nikola nodded, pushing harder against her. He lifted up just a little, both hands moving down to her hips to guide her against him. He continued moving, slowly and strongly, making love to the love of his life.

Her eyes met his, dark brown growing darker by the day, almost crimson. She smiled a little, knowing that this was more than just sex for either of them. This was something passionate and pure, cementing their engagement. She had no doubt that it was a good omen for the rest of their lives.

He leaned in and kissed her gently, never once stopping or pausing in his thrusts against her. Nikola wasn’t used to this sort of sex. He had never made love like this, not like with Lulu. There was something more powerful about it, something that made his knees weak and his toes curl. He slipped one hand down between them to rub against her while his thrusting grew more desperate.

His fingers made her shiver, and she arched back against him. She’d never felt more connected to someone. She was his, and he was hers. Leaning up to kiss him, she wanted to press as close as possible to him, to be skin on skin, heartbeat on heartbeat.

Nikola leaned his face down to press into her neck as he moved against her, closer and closer, his fingers massaging her sensitive spot, his length sliding in and out, rubbing in all the right places. It felt so good, so amazing, he couldn’t stop himself. He opened his mouth and sunk his teeth into her neck.

She wasn’t prepared for it, but she also didn’t mind too much. Shuddering, she reached out to cradle his head and press it harder into her neck. Whimpering, she kept moving with him. “Harder,” she murmured, referring both to his thrusts and his bite.

Well, she asked for it. One hand came down to hold her hip in place, the other held him above her. He had to stop massaging her for just a moment as his thrusts became harder, stronger, deeper, and his bite sharper. He broke the skin. Just barely, but the taste of blood spread quickly through his mouth, as he was salivating.

Shuddering, Lulu felt herself finish, felt herself buck under him and arch her back so extensively she could feel her stomach muscles cramp. Yowling his name, she ran her fingernails sharply down his back, kissing his shoulder when it came close to her mouth.

Her release was all that it took for him to let go. His mouth was still latched to her neck as his body bucked and a moan escaped him through his nose. His every muscle went rigid, and he released deep inside of her. He was breathing hard through his nose as he came down, either unable to let go of her neck, or simply not wanting to. His hand moved from her hip up to the other side of her neck as he kissed and suckled where his teeth broke the skin, very, very gently. He had to keep himself in check.

She liked the way it felt with him on her neck, the way his lips and teeth and tongue moved against her. Wanting to tell him it was okay without words, she arched against him gently. Remembering the time that she’d used a Thunder spell on him, a tiny arc of electricity lept from her fingertips and danced along his spine.

Nikola inhaled sharply as the electricity danced along his skin. He was deflating rapidly, still buried within her, though the spark kept his arousal alive for just another moment. A chuckle escaped him, and he slowly withdrew his mouth from her neck, leaving gentle kisses along it to her jaw. “...you are mine.” He whispered against her skin.

“Mmm, that goes both ways,” she murmured, turning her head to catch his mouth with hers. The taste of blood was coppery, metallic, but familiar, and she cupped his cheeks with both of her hands.

He kissed her hungrily, somewhat sloppily, savoring the way it felt to her her blood on his lips, the post-climax still ringing in the air. He decided that he liked this feeling very, very much. She tasted absolutely amazing. “Are you all right with this?” He asked, gently. He wasn’t about to do it again if she wasn’t. “You may have to wear a scarf.”

“With - oh, of course.” She grinned, rubbing a dot of blood over his lower lip. “I don’t care who knows. I’m loved. Are you not all right with it?” She knit her brows, worrying a bit.

Nikola nodded. “...I’ve only ever done that in my dreams.” He said, softly, licking his lips.

“I enjoyed it. Don’t be upset,” she murmured, sitting up to kiss him. “If I can help you, I will.”

He returned her kiss, then shook his head. “Not upset. It was good.” He kissed her cheek, her jaw, then climbed off of her and settled down against the pillows and pulled her against him once more. “So long as I’m not hurting you.”

“You were, but in a way I enjoy.” She burrowed against him, smiling up at him. “When should we get married, then?”

“Whenever you want to.” Nikola said, trailing his hand slowly up and down her side. “The sooner the better.” Though he wanted her to have her perfect, dream wedding, he knew that neither of them was an innocent schoolgirl, so they had much more realistic dreams about weddings and things.

“Soon. I want Yuna to come, and Jefferson, and his daughter, and Helen and Varric. And anyone else you want to have come.” She could feel her blood trickling down her neck, and she rolled over to nuzzle into him. “Something small.”

Nikola felt the blood hitting his shoulder. He pulled away a little, to grab some tissues from the night stand, and came back to press them against the small wound he’d made on her neck. “...all right.” He didn’t really have anyone else he wanted to come. Now that he thought about it, maybe he should branch out and make more friends.

Lulu shook her head. “You have more if you need it. Do you think you do, yet? Or is it just your tastebuds?” She stroked his cheek. “Helen should be your Best Woman.”

Nikola shook his head. “I have no idea.” He said, honestly. He’d done it in his dreams, but he couldn’t have imagined doing something like that in his waking life. Now... Now he wanted more. Though he didn’t want to hurt her.

“You’re really all right with my friendship with Helen?”

“Of course I am. I made her some clothes for her practice, you know.” Lulu arched her neck so he could have more, if he wanted to. “I trust you, Nikola. With her, as well as this.”

Nikola shook his head, lifting the tissue to press it against her neck. He didn’t trust himself taking more. He could very easily go overboard and do some real damage. He would have to work his way up, work on his discipline. “All right.” He said, pressing the clean tissue against her skin. “I trust you to plan the wedding. Our wedding. However you want it. Spare no expense.”

“I’ll make my dress, I’ll pick some flowers, we’ll be ready. I don’t want anything expensive. Just you.” She kissed his shoulder. “I’ll make sure the wine for the reception is the most expensive thing.” She knew him.

Nikola chuckled. “We have to make a spectacle.” He said, eyes twinkling. “Do something the county will remember.” Fireworks, maybe.

“Maybe you should plan it, then.” She leaned up, letting her hair trail down on the pillow. “I can do my dress, that’s all I care about.”
