Who: Erik and Obi-Wan
When: Some point before Monday
Where: The De Chagny Theatre
What: Hashing out plans
Rating: Probably very low
Status: In progress

There's just something about old theatres. Erik always feels at home at them, calm and serene. At peace. He's tempted to explore further, but he probably ought to wait until his official meeting with M. de Chagny on Tuesday. Still, he is itching to get up onto the catwalks and see everything from above. That's the best way to look at a theatre, from above.

For the moment, he sits in the auditorium, basking in the dim light and the scent of the place until his potential coworker arrives.

"No, no. I haven't, not personally. But one does hear stories. Rumours, that sort of thing. Tales of terror about ballet girls being crushed to death.

It just seems like a good thing to reinforce, that's all I mean."

Erik's answer did very little to set Obi-Wan at ease. His words weren't sinister, but they were very dark. Girls being crushed. He spoke far too casually.

His response was a simple Hmm. A low hum.

Obi-Wan entered a door beside the stage and held it open for Erik to follow. It led to a narrow hallway, which was dark even though there was some light up ahead. He searched for some kind of light switch and failed to find one.

"I assume this should take us backstage..."

"Well, it should be an adventure either way, hmm?" Erik takes out his lighter and looks along the walls to find the light switches. "Mm, no. Must be on the other side. Or up in the booth. But a little darkness never hurt anyone, did it?"

Fortunately for Obi-Wan, while his powers didn't grant him x-ray vision, he could sense his way through dark spaces as well as if he had a torch. "That depends on who's involved, I suspect."

He thought of Anakin.

"How very philosophical of you, my dear Mr. Kenobi." Erik prefers to keep the house dim, lest he catch sight of himself in the mirror on accident and ruin his whole day. So his eyes adjust to the darkness quickly enough.

"Well, we could creep along here in the dark if you'd like, or we could go up to the booth and see what the place looks like lit up. What are you in the mood for?"

"I myself am a fan of the light," Obi-Wan replied, though there was a coldness to his voice. He was not a fan of creeping. "Why don't we go to the booth?"

Erik draws back with a hand to his chest, his expression sheepish. "If I've insulted you without knowing, I apologize. I have an odd sense of humour.

Up to the booth it is." And he gestures for Obi to lead the way.

Perhaps Obi-Wan ought to have been the one apologizing, but he knew he wouldn't. He was stubborn as a mule. He shook his head and pretended to cast aside the matter with a flick of his wrist. Moving on was the better plan.

The path to the booth revealed more than a few loose boards and, unfortunately, some major termite damage. Termites were a carpenter's sworn enemy.

Erik wrinkles his nose as he steps around the floor boards, picking his way across the floor like a cat. "We'll have to get an exterminator, obviously. And the basement likely has rats."

"Oh, I think we can safely assume we'll find rats," Obi-wan replied. He nearly chuckled. Rats weren't a problem for construction, unless they were chewing on the wood. "And probably bats in the rafters. It seems this place hasn't been in use for a very long time. A shame, really."

"Rats and bats and termites, oh my. That's what happens when you invest in an older building, you have to usher out the creepies and crawlies and long-leggedy beasties that have made their home here while we've ignored it."

They came to the booth, which at first glance was an electrician's nightmare. Obi-Wan knew more about construction than carpentry alone, but the wiring here was ancient. He quietly used the Force to guide his hands where they needed to go, careful not to trip anything that might start a fire.

"Have you met the owner, by the way? Mr. De Chagny? I haven't, but from what I gather, he seems very young. Much younger than you and I. I theorize that he has a great deal of money to throw into this project, and perhaps a personal connection to the place."

Erik, for his part, is no great hand at wiring, and so steps back to let Obi-Wan sort things out.

"You'll meet him before I do, I believe. He seems a fair man, but he did have the audacity to scold me for being too eager to jump into the project. But having seen it, can you really blame me? Theatre is my great passion, and to be able to have a hand in restoring one -- well." He shrugs and spreads his hands a little. "I had no choice but to be eager.

All in all, it should be an interesting experience, I feel."

Obi-Wan glanced over his shoulder, trying to keep his face blank. His hands continued to work the wiring and the lights, which came on one by one with loud SNAPS!

"Tell me, Erik," he said. "What's your background? I assume your interest in this theater has more to do with the stage than architecture..."

"Well now, that would be an incorrect assumption. I worked as an architect and contractor around Europe and Asia before I started putting my music and magic tricks up on the internet for the world to see. I also had a job as an illusionist while I was in Iran, but I was primarily an architect there.

I'm a man of many hats, as you can see."

No, Obi-Wan wouldn't quite disguise the look of surprise on his face. Magic tricks? Iran? Mr. Garnier was not just a man of many hats but perhaps a man of many identities. Obi-Wan almost said this aloud, but a familiar calming voice in the back of his head told him to mind himself. After all, he was a man with more than one identity as well.

"Hm. I pictured you as having a long-standing acting career," he said softly.

"Oh no, this handsome face of mine has never graced the stage. Not in a proper theatrical performance. Concerts and the like, but never a real role. Though I'll admit, I've dreamed of it."

"Would you mind if I asked what happened..." he said cautiously. "Your face. I would guess there was some accident. But you don't have to answer."

Erik waves a hand dismissively, "At least you're very polite about it, anyway. I was born with this disfigurement, though it does look rather like an accident, doesn't it?"
