Deryn leaned back in her seat, tilting her head to the side to consider his words. In fact, she put on her serious face for him. Just for a moment, though.

"It's okay," she said after a moment. "Those things happen sometimes. We can't always control who we fall in love with, even if it hurts someone else."

Occasionally, she gave these stunning bits of advice, which seemed to come out of left field. A lot of people thought Deryn kind of stupid -- but she wasn't. She just was fairly simple about things, and often very happy. And clumsy.
