It was great the the Targets now had grocery sections. Gwen could do all of her shopping in one stop! She had her cart with the outfits and some other random things, and was in the middle of her slow lap when she nearly collided with someone else pushing a cart. She gave a soft chuckle.

"Sorry, I was too distracted by the bathing suits. Wasn't watching where I was going. But honestly, bathing suits? In January??"

Martha had decided to check out the clothes section, not that she planned on getting anything at this moment, but then she always said she wasn't actually going buy any clothes and always came away with at least two of those eight dollar t-shirts in some color that she didn't have yet. It was when she was turning towards that section when she collided with another cart, sighing, because she was now making this a habit. First Amy, at the mall, and now this girl, "I'm sorry too. I wasn't paying attention." She couldn't help but laugh at what she said about the bathing suits and nodded, "Oh, I know. It's crazy enough when they start putting them out in February back home, but here I think they're out all year round." It only made sense since the weather didn't appear to go below fifty here. With the exception of when it had snowed in December of course.

"Where's home?" Gwen asked. "I think it's nuts how quickly they move from winter coats to bikinis." She said, looking over at the stringed bathing suits with something like contempt on her face. It wasn't that she couldn't wear one, it was more that she didn't want to play into some fashion designers hand by buying it and forcing herself to be so exposed on the beach.

"I guess this is California. Girls gotta have their bathing suits."

"Boston. You?" Martha asked, glancing at the bathing suits. One of the things her sister had made her buy before she'd moved out to California, was more than one bathing suit, not that she'd worn any of them just yet of course. She didn't have the time. Although, part of her was hoping that her schedule would liken up a little come spring and summer, because the beaches on the East Coast were nice, but she'd heard that the ones out here were even better. "But is it just me or do bathing suits out here have a lot less material than anywhere else?" She smirked as she glanced over at the girl.

"Jersey." Gwen said, giving the other girl a bright smile. "Howdy, neighbor," she added, playfully.

"No, it's not just you." Gwen turned with a frown to the bathing suits. "It seems like the ones here are even smaller than the ones back home. Must be something about the California weather?" She pulled one off the rack that was nothing more than triangles and string made out of a gaudy, shining, faux-snakeskin material. "...ugly."

"Good to know it's not just me," Martha laughed as the other girl examined one of the bikinis. "I don't get it. Who can even wear that?" How some of these designs even made it into stores was beyond her. "Who would want to wear that? What is it even made of?" Not only was it ugly, but it looked cheap; as if it would fall apart the second you stepped into water.

"Someone on the cover of Playboy magazine, I expect." Gwen said, frowning as she set it back onto the rack. "Or... Hustler." She grinned, then gave a laugh. "I'm sorry, but it looks like prostitute wear." She shook her head and turned.

There was a plain, blue, one-piece bathing suit with a modest neckline and adequate hip coverage on the next rack. "This one's more my style."

"Well, it's good to know that if my career in medicine falls through, I can get my hookerwear at Target." Martha laughed as she glanced over at the new bathing suit the girl picked up, "It's nice, but kind of plain, don't you think?" She cringed slightly as she realized that she sounded just like her sister, when they went shopping, but she couldn't help it. "Oh, I'm Martha, by the way. And I'm sorry, if that sounded rude. My older sister is always trying to get me to expand my wardrobe."

Gwen gave a snort of laughter, then lifted her hand to clamp over her mouth. Another peel of good-natured laughter escaped her, both at Martha's wit and at the snort that escaped her. She shook her head a little.

"Maybe a little." She added, when the giggles subsided, "but at least it's modest."

She smiled. "Gwen. Gwen Stacy." She reached a hand forward to shake the other's. "Not rude at all. It's hard to find a really good bathing suit."
