Portia was walking through the park going over in her head what she needed to update in her portfolio before her interview. She hadn't had a proper interview for a while and was almost nervous. Still a walk almost always cleared her head, it was fairly quiet at this time of day and she smiled as she neared a man who was feeding the ducks.

"They really like you" she said with a smile, "Is it just ducks or are you a Doctor Doolittle to all animals?" she asked.

Wally sat up a little at the sound of the voice, and broke into a grin. The woman talking to him was rather pretty. He cleared his throat and pulled himself up to his full height. "They like the bread." He said, softly, by way of explanation, then he held the bag out to her in case she wanted to feed the ducks with him.

"They really do don't they?" Portia replied as she smiled brightly when he held the bag out to her, "Oh thank you" she dipped her hand in to pull some of the bread out before feeding the ducks on the pond.

Laughing at their antics as they scrambled for it, "I haven't done this in years" she commented.

Wally gave a nod and a smile, tossing some more little chunks of dry bread to the ducks. Some of the bread landed on the water and floated until the smaller ducks came over and slurped it up, and then other bits of bread landed on the ground.

Wally hated it when the ducks started fighting over the food. Luckily today there wasn't a whole lot of fighting going on. He held the bag out to her again.

Portia briefly wondered if he was shy or just naturally quiet, either way she didn't mind. It was actually quite a comfortable quiet as they both fed and watched the ducks.

"Thank you" she smiled as he held out the bag again, taking some more to give to the ducks. Noticing a duck to the side who wasn't quite as forceful as all the others she threw some to the left and then while they all scrambled to that side she threw some to the lonesome duck - it wouldn't do for the rowdy bunch to get all of it after all.

He was a little of both. Mostly just quiet. He took in his surroundings with curiosity and without judgement. It was a bit refreshing to be Wally, actually. He gave her a nod and a smile as she thanked him.

"No problem." He said, softly, then reached in for himself and tossed some more crumbs out to the ducks. It was nice to give them food, it was fun to watch them race to collect up every crumb.

Wally thought it was rather nice of her to feed the ducks that weren't quite as fast as the others.

He had a kind smile, she thought, when he sent one her way and he seemed to have a gentle soul too. It may be foolish but it eased Portia's mind somewhat to just be standing here with him, feeding ducks on the pond. Worries could wait after all.

His voice was soft but not hesitant. Maybe just quiet then, she realised smiling softly as she turned her attention back to the ducks.

If there was one word that people would always use to describe Portia it was probably 'nice'. She didn't seem to have a mean bone in her body, if she could offer help she would, life was too short for grudges and nastiness after all.

Wally was one of those people who could be comfortable in absolute silence. Well, perhaps not absolute. There were sounds of nature all around them. The wind in the leaves, the gentle trickling of the duck pond, the movement of feathers and waddling of webbed duck feet against the ground. It was wonderful and beautiful and Wally didn't have to talk to fill the silence. He let nature do that for him.

After a moment Wally turned the bag over to dump out the last of the crumbs so that the Ducks could finish their feast. he rolled it up to shove in his pocket as he watched them eat.
