It was always going to have been a long day. Finnick hadn't gone back to sleep after his dream, even after he'd convinced himself that it had just been a nasty, horrible trick of his subconscious mind. The launch replayed itself behind his eyelids every time he shut them, so eventually he'd given up and put on the television. It was amazing how many programs contained violence - from children's cartoons to MASH reruns. ESPN was a no-go, because athletic competitions made him feel queasy, too. Eventually he'd settled in with CSPAN for a very, very long night. The text from Annie did not add any weariness. What it added was worry - although the thought that they'd had the same dream was preposterous, Finnick was already on-edge and it was so easy to start running through worst-case scenarios. Maybe it had been a nightmare about her boss. Perhaps she'd dreamed about the other assistants, or some client who'd been awful to her. It happened. He'd been in the business long enough to know that people could be really cruel for no reason at all. So, when Finnick knocked, he looked both tired and on the verge of panic. Once he got a look at her, he decided, it would be alright. He just needed to see her face. "Annie? I got coffee." Granted, the coffee was a pair of Via packets from his cupboard because he hadn't wanted to waste time on stopping for the real thing, but he figured it was better than nothing. They'd have a cup of something hot and calm down in the daylight. Together. |
