Who: Violet, Tate. Yay, it's Violate times. <3
What: Hanging out at the beach with tacos. Aw yea!
Where: Who knows where these crazy teens are gonna end up? Hopefully it's not on someone's lawn.
When: Saturday
Rating: PG13 for cutting and teen hormones and stuff. Thou hast been warned!
Status: Complete!

Tate was convinced he was psychic. Either that, or he was simply used to the routine. Constance tried to corner him before he could make it to the front door. It helped being able to drop a bombshell while flipping her off, that he was going to hang out with a girl from school. It allowed him to have some money pushed into his hands as he diverted his way around his mom, AND get out the door while she acted all proud of him and oh-so-happy that he actually wasn't gay and she had some glimmer of hope for a grandbaby. Someday. After he became a doctor. Or a lawyer.

It would've been awesome if she hadn't said any of that, outloud. But she did. And that's why Tate kept right on flipping her off, until it reached the point that he either pulled his hand back, or it was going to get slammed in the front door. While the effect and shock value of doing that would've been epic win, it probably wouldn't be so great for him to have to ask Violet to take him to the emergency room for a busted wrist or fingers.

Even though he could all but feel his mother's eyes burning holes into his back from one of the windows, he remained turned away and never once looked over his shoulder to confirm that's what she was doing. He knew already. Both hands were shoved into his pockets and his shoulders were slumped as he stood at the end of the driveway, waiting for Violet to show up.

"You modded - " She grinned, shaking her head. "That's badass. But infinite ammo's cheating. I don't know, I liked the first few because they were actually survival horror. Now it's just this boring over the shoulder third person shooter bullshit." She tapped her cigarette out of the window.

Her grades mattered because she was going to Harvard. "Yeah, well. The Ivy League schools won't take me if I make anything less. I'm just lucky that I don't really have to work too hard to make good grades." It was the closest she'd ever gotten to mentioning that she was smart.

Since she was driving, she couldn't really notice his facial expressions, but she heard his question. "If you're not, you won't really want to hang around me for long. So it doesn't matter." She didn't know how a sane person would react to the ladder's worth of scars on her wrists and thighs.

"It was badass. In a perfect world, even if that'll never exist? I'd never have to reload," he said, taking advantage of her driving to watch her the whole time. She was pretty fascinating, and that she'd heard rumors he was crazy and didn't seem to care was pretty interesting in and of itself.

And she was going to an Ivy League school? Damn. Another person who was going to move far away. Might as well admit some things, if she was leaving after school was over. "I was in therapy for a while. My mom made me go. I let her sink money into it and told the guy what he wanted to hear, so he said I was a normal teenager and gave me a pat on the head, and told my mom I was fine."

Because hating one's mom and most of the world at large when it's a teenager involved, isn't so totally off-base. It was the depths of the hate that he would cover up when medical professionals were around. It was very easy to lie to them, because he didn't care what they thought and didn't want to be there to begin with.

"...I don't think your normal," he said, "and that makes me want to hang out with you. So I guess I am crazy. There's no such thing as normal, anyway. Anyone who claims they are, is a fucking liar."

"Oh, who hasn't been in therapy?" She grinned at him before swinging into the taco joint's parking lot. It wasn't much more than a cart with some picnic tables outside, but it was open twenty-four-seven and it was enough to send her into gustatory bliss. "My parents sent me because I 'wasn't connecting." She made large finger quotes before parking the car and turning to face him.

After dumping her smoke out the window, she just turned to look at him, smiling. "Your mom sounds like a stupid bitch. No offense to you."

"None taken. Everyone thinks their parents suck, but some of us actually have legitimate reasons for it," he replied, eyeing her and then taking in the look of the taco joint. Seemed okay by him. He didn't need or want fancy things anyway, because that was more his mom's idea of fun, being lavished on and needing men to make her feel complete. It wasn't his. He smiled back at her. "You seem like you're connecting ok right now. I think your parents are high and no one appreciates eccentrics anymore. That's why movies and music are getting more and more bland ass, as time goes on."

Violet smiled to herself; Tate was saying everything she'd always thought. It was just perfect, and she moved a little closer, hoping he'd kiss her. "My parents don't talk to me much except through notes. They're always at work." She'd taken off her seat belt, still grinning.

He hadn't bothered to buckle up, and when she moved in closer, he thought that was enough of a go signal to sit up more and move in closer too.

"I'm not even going to ask why your parents are so busy," he said, and there wasn't much chance for a reply. That was because his lips met hers and he didn't show any signs of stopping. It was one of those unexpectedly perfect moments. One of his hands raised up to the side of her face, and his fingertips brushed some of her hair away from her cheek. There was no trouble connecting like this, at least.

She would've told him 'work', but he did what she'd been hoping he'd do the whole time and kissed her. She really didn't understand why girls at school thought he was a freak. Probably just because he was quiet and smart. Smart people were always ostracized. Just like her.

He was a good kisser, and she moved a little closer. Her experience wasn't as much as some of the other girls at her school - she was still a virgin, but she'd kissed someone before - and she hoped she wasn't disappointing him. "All Apologies" came on her iPod and she wondered if the moment could get more perfect.

He didn't understand why anyone thought she was a freak, either. She was smart and cool, and honest and real. But if you didn't fall into a pack mentality, it tended to result in mass rejection for not fitting in like everyone else. Or, at least, that's what he usually thought. He couldn't think much, not while they were liplocked. And it wasn't like he had spent a ton of time making out with a lot of girls either, so his experience was pretty limited.

Her, kissing, and Nirvana? No, it couldn't get any more perfect. It felt like it was preordained. Sure, it was sudden, but it was like nothing else felt as right as this did, in his entire messed up life.

He slowly shifted around, trying to move her more toward him and to guide her out of the driver's seat and more toward the passenger side of the car. Come over to the dark side.

Violet didn't believe in fate. Or she hadn't thought she did, not until she kissed Tate Langdon. And it was even the acoustic version, the more romantic version of the song. He knew just enough pressure to use, and if she was completely honest with herself, she felt safe with him. Protected.

She could tell what he wanted, and grinning, she obliged him. It only took a tiny bit of doing, but she was petite and slender, and soon she was in his lap. Fortunately it was dark out and there weren't too many people around to ogle. "Are you real?" She couldn't help but pull away for a moment, wanting to see if he felt the same way as she did. They both hated their parents. They liked the same music, they hated their school - was she just dreaming?

He didn't believe in fate, either. He didn't believe in much of anything. Or, he hadn't thought he did, not until he kissed Violet Harmon. Her lips were soft as silk and she seemed to know instinctively what to do, like they fit together, when they didn't fit into anything else, anywhere else, at all.

Both hands were resting against her face, his thumbs lightly rubbing over her cheek on each side, as he looked up into her eyes.

"I think so. I hope so." He wasn't saying any of those things because he thought it was what she wanted to hear, but because he really thought and believed it. And she wasn't running away, after he said any of them. "I already feel like I can tell you anything, Violet."

And he meant it. No matter how dark or terrible it was, it seemed like maybe, somehow, she might understand it.

She'd always considered herself a nihilist. But then she kissed Tate, and she realized that she believed in him. He was warm and it felt like every time he pressed his mouth to hers, warmth flooded her skin and slid down her back. It was like laying on concrete in the middle of the summer after swimming in cold water.

"I hope so too. I don't want this to be like one of the dreams that everyone's always saying they have." She took his hand and put it over her heart so he could feel its rapidfire thumping. "You can. I swear, you can." She felt like she could tell him about all of the fantasies she had about dying - what it would feel like getting hit by a bus, or how deliciously cold it would be to have all of her blood leeching out of her. "Want to get our food to go? "

That nihilistic attitude was one he kind of shared, for the most part. He was probably more of a destructionist, where he thought it was better society was broken down to it's base basement bottom setting, and rebuilt from the ground, up. Scarily enough, he wanted to protect her, already. From everyone who ever called her a freak, from her parents, from bulimic bitches who tried to wail on her...from everything. And that was even though he could tell she was still a strong person, and had her own opinions and thoughts, that seemed to match up with his own.

Maybe the network wasn't such a bad thing, after all. But making fun of it wasn't going to stop. Because...reasons. Asshole reasons.

"I don't get that dream stuff," he admitted, under his breath. "If anything's freaky, it's that."

His hand was over her heart and he could feel the beat of it, like a drum, against the palm of his hand. He curled his fingers inward a little, so the tips moved against her chest, between her breasts, and then stared into her eyes. This was all really intense, not to mention sudden. His mind was pretty blown, but in good, unexpected ways. In ways where he could tell her that sometimes, he fantasized about waiting until his mom was asleep, taking Addie, barricading his mom in her room, and setting the house on fire. You know, typical teenage stuff. He could watch it burn, from the front lawn, and make up an appropriate story to get away with it.

"I have the perfect place to go," Tate said. "Let's build a bonfire and eat tacos on the beach."

Violet had always had a bit of an apathetic streak in her. She hated the way the world was, but didn't know a way to change it. It was why she stayed in her room and read books, played video games, and watched movies that allowed her a certain bit of escapism. She'd yet to meet anyone in her life that she wanted to let into that world. It was oddly comforting to meet someone who had been there the whole time. She wanted to take him and move to that world, never looking back. Fuck school, fuck parents, fuck everything. They didn't need any of the capitalist bullshit to be happy.

"I don't get it either. I just have normal stupid dreams. I guess that's something to be thankful for." Leaning her head down, she kissed his knuckles and smiled. "I wasn't ... this is kind of heavy but - but good. Don't think it's not good." She smiled, headlights passing by setting alight her blonde hair like some sort of fiery halo.

His idea made her grin and she nodded. "Perfect. Dad's paying, so get whatever you want," she snorted, opening his door and climbing off of him.

Tate had been staring at her like one who was thunderstruck, just by the way the light had illuminated her like that, for so fleeting a moment. He knew he didn't need capitalist bullshit. He didn't need school, or his mother, or anything else, really. But he knew, in some way, he needed her...because she got it and understood what was going on.

If they went anywhere, together, he wasn't going to look back or regret anything.

Why was he thinking that way? So soon?

He watched her as she was getting out of the car, wondering that to himself, but pushing it aside as something inconsequential. Nothing to mess up a good thing over. That was why he got out of the car and put one arm around her shoulders, in a move that felt so natural, he didn't even think about it or hesitate.

"It was good. I wish I would've said something to you, before." They could've been hanging out together, for a while. And since it was on her dad, he'd be eating a whole lot of taco tonight, ha ha. "I dream about falling and stupid dreams. Nothing serious. They're pretty stupid. But after seeing the crazies? I'm grateful too that the weird ass shit skipped me."

So far.

She kissed him again once they were out of the car, wondering why she felt like she could trust him already. She just felt loved around him, comfortable and cosy and - she didn't know why the word loved danced around in her head. It had been two friggin' minutes. It was so soon, but at the same time, her arms went around his waist as he walked with her toward the queue.

"I wish you had too." She smiled at him, letting her head rest against his chest. "I could've been kicking your ass in video games this whole time." The person in front of them had a pretty large order and Violet sort of wished the moment would stretch on and on. "Do you know where the beach is? I'll go anywhere with you. You're worth skipping curfew over. Not like my parents would notice."

And that kiss, like the first one, could have stretched on into forever and he really wouldn't have minded. He already felt drawn to her like a moth to a flame, even if it was so soon. He didn't even feel like questioning that, only accepting it.

"Anywhere? We can drive out to Dana Point. There's a beach there with fire pits, and we can see if our parents notice if we're gone all night." He was grinning and he couldn't stop himself. Grinning! Nonstop! Alert the press. Or, not, because then someone like that Skeeter skank might get ahold of it, even though that was totally doubtful. They were no-ones...and he was glad for that. "I don't know about kicking my ass at video games, though. I might have to let you win, to stay on your good side."

"I bet you twenty bucks mine will have no idea." She grinned right back, running her fingers through his hair and finding it far softer than she'd expected. "Do you need stuff to build a bonfire?" That was something she'd leave up to him. She was aware they'd need wood, maybe ... butane? Something?

She playfully bumped his hip. "Better not let me win, or I'll pout. You wouldn't like me when I pout." Then it was their turn in the queue and she ordered a few tacos and a drink, letting Tate get whatever he wanted before handing over the plastic. The clerk didn't even blink as he ran it through, which took out some of the fun of it, but the promise of being with Tate all night outweighed that a million to one.

"We could rip out part of the seats in the Prius and burn them, and see if your parents notice," he joked, not shying away as she messed with his hair. He actually found he liked it, since she had a very gentle touch. "I can pretty much set anything on fire."

After all? Where there was a will, there was a way.

Tate's body had moved after the hip bump, so he had one arm around her, but his upper body was leaning in, and his hips were moved in the away motion, just to make another hip check that much harder for her. It wasn't until after he ordered half the menu that he finally addressed the pouty faced thing.

"What do you do? Turn green and walk down roads to sad piano music if you start pouting? Woe."

Staying out with her all night long sounded good. He was up for it. No school until Monday anyway, and he was sure it would drive his mom up the freaking wall wondering where he was and why he wasn't being a model son. Either way, it was a win-win situation. He'd get to spend time with Violet AND piss off Constance.

"That one the'd notice. Plus, it'd probably smell like hell." She noticed how he leaned into her touch with his hair, almost like a cat. It made her smile. He seemed almost affection starved - her too.

"Nah, I'm just told I'm cute when I pout." She grinned up at him. "And I think you might find me just a little bit cute. Just a tiny bit cute." She held up her thumb and forefinger, grinning more broadly when the food was ready. She handed it to Tate - she needed to drive.

"So, where is this place? Direct me. You get to be Han. I'll be Chewie for now." She nosewrinkled in feigned disgust.

"I'll find some sticks or something...or someone...to light on fire. And hey, at least they'd notice if we burned a headrest."

He could tell, already. It was like they were both craving some form of physical contact, since the hell if they were going to get that, anywhere else. Or from anyone else, for that matter.

"You really are cute, pouty Chewie," he said, leaning in and placing a kiss on top of her head, without so much as a second's thought or a shred of hesitation. "Han's really into furries. Head south on the coastal highway or take the I5 south. There's a park that's right by the exit ramp there, with fire pits."

"No people, they'd run around and then I'd get cold."

They were both making up for lost time, both being more tactile than usual, she could tell. She'd held his hand the entire drive, and he kept stroking her knuckles with his thumb. She really liked it.

"Thanks," she blushed, unable to keep it from forming when he called her cute. "You're not exactly scary yourself, Han." He was gorgeous, if she was being honest, and she shifted her weight a little.

"Fair enough," he conceded, because she had a point there. As for the touching? Even her skin was soft, so he really liked doing that knuckle rubbing thing he was doing so well. "The only way to keep them laid down and still, would be to shoot them."

Oh he is so going to regret saying that particular zinger, later on.

"Not that scary, huh?" He watched her shift around, his thumb rubbing a slow circle around the knuckle of her pinkie finger. "I bet I could be scary, if I wanted to be. Lucky for you, I don't want to."

Fine. He might regret that one, also. Way to first date, Tate.

"Exactly, and you don't have a gun or anything." She stuck out her tongue at him, glad she was good at driving with one hand. She turned left, biting her lip at how much she enjoyed the way he was touching her hand. It was just her hand, for crying out loud, it shouldn't have been as nice as it was.

"I'm sure I could be too. That makes us both lucky." She felt lucky just being around him. If stopping the car in the middle of the street was smart, she would've done so just to kiss him and show him how she felt, but she erred on the side of practicality. There'd be time for making out soon enough.

"I don't have a gun with me," was Tate's indifferent reply, like it wasn't a big deal. "I got talked into target practice with one of mom's boyfriends, before. My mom's got all sorts of guns. Sure, I hate her...but she's a good shot with a handgun. So if you're ever outta luck and in trouble, you can come to my house."

Well, at least to Tate, it wasn't a big deal. Right now, it was a lessening concern regarding guns or target practice with one of his mom's man-whores. Besides, when she was between boyfriends, it was up to him to keep any intruders from getting to his sister. He'd probably just point and say 'go that way' toward his mom's room, and let her kill 'em either by shooting them, or getting her claws in them. Either way, any home invaders were going down.

Right now, though, it was all raging teenage hormones. He also felt very lucky and somewhat sideswiped by the way things seemed to click so well. He didn't feel like there was anything to be scared of, about Violet, only acceptance. Which was something totally foreign and even alien that he never knew before.

Making out? Going to happen. In copious amounts. But there was probably going to be a whoooole lot of telling eachother all sorts of things, too, and in a way...that sort of unloading of issues might, maybe, do them both some good. Even if he wasn't that optimistic that it'd be good for the world at large, which is still a big shithole, no matter what.

"When the zombie apocalypse comes, I'll make sure to come to your house." She grinned at him, parking the car in the lot nearest the beach.

It was the tiniest bit chilly out and she pulled her sweater a bit closer around her shoulders. "Fire? Fire sounds really good right now." She felt that she could tell Tate anything, which made her heart beat faster, made her palms sweat.
