Ever since dying, Dick’s head had been in the clouds. Like the world around him was fuzzy and he couldn’t make much sense of it. The thing he kept coming back to was the Circus. Dreams of the tents and the lights, the animals. His other life. The world of Nightwing. A world that balanced on a thin line between darkness and light. A world of dreams.
The question he faced was whether he fed into those dreams or fought for Dick Grayson. The life of the detective was seeming less and less desirable. Even as he stood on the highest point of the police building after having been absent all week. The wind was messing up his hair, but he didn’t really care. He felt more at home with his feet off the ground than on them lately.
The people on the ground below looked like ants. Dick never had a problem with heights. In fact he felt more comfortable in the sky than anywhere else in the world. Free falling, he let go of the building, so high above it he was unlikely to be noticed by many. His feet touched a few platforms on the way down, an impressive aerial display in the sky that nobody would even likely bare witness to since it was the middle of the night. His eagle eyes had noticed a scuffle down below in the alley just below it, and his feet barely made a single noise. He sucker punched one of the aggressors that seemed to have started it by attacking a woman who ran when the commotion started. A second turned to face him with a knife out, and Dick could only smirk at that. Giving an almost cocky smirk. “Go on then.” He beckoned with a hand motion, the confused criminal swiped and the knife was kicked from his hand with ease. A second more and he had joined his unconscious friend on the ground.
Dick stepped out of that alley moments later and stood in front of the police station, looking up at it in confusion. What the hell was he doing? So many questions lurked in his mind, he didn’t realize the sun was beginning to rise and shifts were starting.
