Clarke could understand what Murphy had meant about her next dream, but honestly, her feelings about him hadn’t changed much despite the fact that he’d wanted to kill Charlotte for what the others had done to him. They had tried to kill him for something he hadn’t done so she couldn’t blame him when they didn’t want to execute the person who had actually killed Wells. She would have to text him later to let him know that she knew what had happened, but for now she was sitting at a table at the Starbucks not too far from the hospital thinking over the rest of her more recent dream. It appeared that she was stepping up, in a sense, to lead the group of Delinquents and there was definitely something between her and Finn, if the fact that they’d had sex was anything to go by.
Thinking about Finn of course led her to wonder if he was a real person out there somewhere; after all if her parents, Murphy, Bellamy and Octavia were real people then didn’t that mean that everyone else from her dreams were real people too? Didn’t that mean that Finn, Jasper and Monty, among others could be out there somewhere too? These dreams were seriously messing with her head.
Coffee was definitely much-needed in Elena’s world. Though her days at the clinic may not be as long as her residency days, there was still a lot to cram in between work and personal life. Stepping up to the counter, she ordered a plain latte and then stepped off to the side, slipping her phone out as she waited, flipping through a variety of emails - professional and personal.
Clarke was still dwelling on her dreams and was almost lost in her thoughts when she happened to glance up towards the counter, her gaze landing on the brunette who had just ordered and was just about to look away when she realized that there was something familiar about her. She couldn’t see her full on, but Clarke was sure that she knew the brunette from somewhere. She was beginning to think over where she could have possibly seen her before when it suddenly hit her. Med School.
“Elena Gilbert?!” The name came to her so easily once she realized where she knew her from and didn’t quite realize just how loud she had said the other woman’s name.
If she hadn’t been paying attention before, she certainly was now. Head whirled at the sound of her name, brow furrowing a minute. And then she saw the other woman and a smile spread as she placed the face.
“Clarke?”She questioned, stepping away from the waiting area to her table, phone back in her pocket. “It’s been awhile. How are you?”
“I’m good. You?” Now that Elena was in front of her, Clarke was remembering more and more of their time together in med school, “Do you wanna sit down?” She asked, gesturing towards one of the empty chairs at her table; she probably should have chosen a smaller table since it had just been herself when she’d arrived, but now she was glad that she hadn’t.
A nod of thanks as Elena slid into the chair across from her. “I’m doing alright. Working at a clinic so that’s good.” And her personal life wasn’t going too badly either.
“That has got to be less stressful than a hospital,” While Clarke loved her job and had always wanted to be a doctor, thanks to her mother, the hospital life could be extremely stressful at times, but it was good for her career. At least that’s what her mother said, “You like the clinic?” She took a sip of her drink as she watched Elena.
“I do,” Elena nodded. “It’s different than my residency at the hospital but it’s a good change of pace. I always wanted to be a GP so it makes sense from a career perspective. How is your job going?”
“Sometimes I wish I wasn’t doing mine at a hospital.” Clarke’s mother had insisted that the best hands on experience was to be found at a hospital and who was Clarke to argue with her mother who had years of medical experience under belt, “It’s stressful and overwhelming at the best of times, but I definitely don’t regret going into this field.”
“No, I never regret that either.” Elena could never regret going into a field that wound up helping so many people. It’s what she wanted to do most with her life after all. “And you don’t have to stay at the hospital forever. Maybe you’ll grow to like it, maybe you won’t and you’ll find another place that suits you better.”
Clarke nodded and took a sip of her drink, “How did you end up at a clinic?” She wondered which clinic it was that Elena was working at, but at the same time would it make sense to switch from a hospital to a clinic during her residency? Her mother would probably think she was crazy.
“I was actually scouted. Which was really flattering.” She hadn’t gone looking for a different job. “But I’m glad I was. I didn’t have to do a ton of research to realize it was the place for me.”
Clarke’s brows rose slightly at that, “Oh wow. That’s pretty impressive.” Clarke could definitely see why Elena would have been flattered to be recruited, “You like it better than working at a hospital.” Working in a clinic would definitely be a lot different from working in a large hospital for one, Clarke assumed it was much less stressful.
“I do,” Elena confirmed. “I always wanted to be a GP so it was a much better fit for me personally. Not that I didn’t learn a lot at the hospital.” But she was glad to be in the clinic.
“That’s awesome. As long as you’re happy, that’s all that really matters.” Clarke has never really decided on a specific field within the medical field; there were so many things one could do and she was still young enough that she had plenty of time to find exactly what field made her the happiest.
“I am. I hope you are, too.” Though Elena’s head snapped to one side as she heard her name called. “It was nice seeing you again,” she advised Clarke, looking back to her with a smile and a nod. “I hope I’ll see you again soon.”
Clarke also looked up as Elena’s name was called and she nodded as the brunette got to her feet, “Definitely. I’m sure we’ll see each other again at some point.” Clarke had a feeling that she would talk to Elena again sometime soon.
