When: A day or two after this log
Where: The back alley of a bar
Ratings/Warnings: Highish for violence and Katou nearly taking a street fight too far
Status: Complete
These days, Katou tried to avoid fights as much as possible. Frankly, since his dreams and training with the Agency, he found random back alley fights to be a bore. There just wasn’t any fun in it when Katou didn’t even have to break a sweat to take down most guys.
That didn’t mean that fights didn’t tend to seek Katou out. Maybe he’d been a little lippy to the drunk guy at the bar, but he’d deserved it and, well, Katou’d been drunk too. Drunk, and a little upset. After all, Michael, the guy Katou thought he could trust more than anyone else, had attempted to steal his Badass Rock of Doom. Katou’d tried to shrug it off, around Michael at least, but, well, it was a betrayal that Katou hadn’t been expecting. It seemed that Katou just wasn’t good at picking people to care about. Either they’d leave him, like almost every close friend he’d ever had, or they’d try to steal his most precious possession from him. Maybe breaking some of this guy’s ribs would help get rid of some of this frustration.
He’d waited in the alley for a few minutes, growing more bored by the minute, and was just about to call it a wash and take off, when the guy finally appeared. But he wasn’t alone. Apparently he’d taken so long because he’d been out gathering five of his closest friends.
“How about this, kid,” the man said, sneering. “You give us your wallet and apologize, and we’ll only break some of your fingers.”
Katou snorted. “And where would the fun in that be?” he asked, grinning. At least this fight would be interesting.
That was apparently the wrong thing to say, or, in Katou’s case, the right thing to say, because the man snarled and ran at him.
Like he did most nights, Caleb was on his way to a bar. There was nothing like ending a long day with a cold one. Today was longer than usual and Caleb hadn’t gotten done with work till it was already dark out. He was going to need something stronger than a beer.
However, before he could make his way inside he walked by the alley next to the bar. He heard a familiar voice though he couldn’t quite place it. But what he saw was a group of guys charging at someone.
Caleb didn’t know what the situation was, all he knew was that it wasn’t a fair fight. It had been awhile since he had fought anyone but he still sprang into action. Caleb made his way into the alley throwing a punch at the first guy he encountered.
Katou glanced over at Caleb as he ran into the alley, at first wondering if one of this dude’s friends had shown up late, but he grinned when he saw who it was and who they punched. Without even seeming to look at the man who swung the first punch, Katou easily ducked under the flying fist and came up again, ramming the top of his skull into the man’s jaw. There was a loud crack and the guy crumpled at Katou’s feet without making another noise, at the same time that Katou took a half step backwards and rammed his elbow into the next man’s nose.
The guy punched back getting Caleb right in the eye. Yeah that was going to leave a mark. Caleb didn’t care though he threw another punch at the guy while Katou dealt with two of them on his own. Not that Caleb was really noticing he was just focused on the guy that came back at him, this time Caleb managed to duck the punch.
Katou was keeping an eye on Caleb as he fought off his own attackers, but then, Katou could handle it without too much trouble. Another man was coming at Caleb from behind, this one wielding a knife. Katou frowned and ducked the swing from the man in front of him and wrapping his fingers around an old broken beer bottle, and he threw it with precision. The bottle whipped past Caleb’s face, and it shattered against the man with the knife’s nose, and the man collapsed. Then, almost casually, Katou grabbed the man in front of him by the head and slammed it into the wall with a crunch.
“Shit,” Caleb muttered when the beer bottle came flying past his face. But it didn’t hit him so he went right back to the guy who had just tried to punch him. Caleb swung again this time hitting the guy with enough force to knock him out. He was about to move on to the next guy but he was closet to Katou. Caleb made a move to get closer to him ready to swing when the guy lunged for Katou.
Katou had glanced over at Caleb to make sure that he was faring all right, and was glad to see that he’d managed to take down his guy, but his distraction caught him. He wasn’t quick enough to move out of the way of the man who’d appeared, a two-by-four in hand, and the man managed to snap the board across Katou’s face.
That was about the last straw. With everything else going on in his life - Natasha harping on him about his badass rock, Michael trying to steal it, some random fucking nobody cracking him over the face with a piece of wood - Katou had had enough. He punched the man in the gut, and the man fell to his knees, but Katou wasn’t done. He kicked him in the face, sending the man onto his back, and then Katou was on him, straddling him, slamming his fist repeatedly into the man’s face.
Well Katou had that handled. Only he didn’t stop. Caleb’s eyes widened as he watched Katou continuously go after the guy who was clearly already taken out. It took a second but the shock wore off and again Caleb sprang into action. “Katou!” he called out as he practically ran over to the guy. “You got him. That’s enough. You need to stop.” But it was clear Katou wasn’t stopping. Caleb reached down hooking his arms around Katou and pulling him away from the other guy.
Dimly, in the back of his mind, Katou heard someone calling his name, but he ignored them, right up until he couldn’t anymore and someone grabbed him from behind. Had he missed one? He elbowed whoever had grabbed him in the side, and then spun, ready to throw another punch. He stopped himself at the last minute, surprised to see Caleb there, and then came back to himself. He glanced over at the guy on the ground, who wasn’t moving, carefully keeping his face in a mask of indifference.
He hadn’t blacked out like that in years, and it was a little worrying, but he made sure not to let that worry show on his face. He rubbed the back of his neck with his right hand to help slow his heartbeat a little. “Guess I mighta gone a bit overboard,” he said after a moment.
Caleb grunted at the elbow to his side. And then Katou spun around and it looked like he was about to punch Caleb. But then he stopped himself and Caleb let out a sigh of relief. “You think?” he asked tone dripping with sarcasm at Katou’s comment.
“We should get outta here,” Katou said, glancing again at the guy. Watching him, he could see the rise and fall of his chest, and Katou had to admit that he was relieved. Sure, he’d killed people before and that didn’t bother him at all, and it wasn’t like the police would be able to trace anything back to him - he was made of plants, for one. But he still didn’t like the idea of beating a guy to death for no actual reason.
“I think I owe you a drink for helping me out,” he added. And for stopping him from going to far.
Caleb eyes fell back to the other man too. He had been a bit concerned with Katou and not getting punched by him. But he was worried about the guy Katou hadn’t been able to stop beating. When he saw the man’s chest rise and fall he let out a sigh of relief himself.
“Yeah,” Caleb agreed. “I could use a drink.” Even before the fight he had wanted a drink, that was why he was headed to a bar after all. “Maybe at a different bar though.”
“Definitely at a different bar,” Katou agreed, vaguely wondering if he should call an ambulance or something for those guys, and then deciding he didn’t need to. They weren’t all so bad off, and if they had any sense they’d call one for their friend and that would be the end of it.
“You have any place in mind? I think there’s a bar a couple blocks that way,” Katou said, gesturing down the street.
“There is,” Caleb replied with a nod. He may know the bars around the area a bit too well. But whatever. “It’s the closest one.” Which was all the Caleb was requiring at the moment after the long day he had followed by that fight. He was going to have to ice his hand and eye later. But right now, drinks. “Let’s go.”
