It was all Yondu could do to not lose his mind and skewer Peter and Katherine with his Yaka arrow. Ever since the OC had decided to tether them together Peter had felt it somehow okay to break Yondu's number one rule: no nookie in the house. They had decided to lock themselves in Peter's room instead of going elsewhere, despite Yondu's hollering. Realizing he was probably not making anything better for his own tethered guest, Laurel, and her little girl, he'd decided getting some air was probably for the best.
Thankfully he already knew of a park with an extensive playground. He brought Kraglin along, letting the dog off leash to run around the trees near them once they found a bench nearby to keep an eye on Olivia. He sat down with a big sigh.
“I could tan that boy's hide sometimes I swear.” Which was a bit of an odd statement considering Peter was a grown man, but between the dreams and what he'd had to put up with over the years here, half the time he still saw a pain in the ass kid.
Laurel chuckled softly, “You remind me of my dad, my sister always seemed to get into trouble, i wouldn’t be shocked if the girl had a hand in it all,” she looked over at Olivia who was running around with other kids, “she seemed very rebellious.” She wouldn’t let her daughter be that way, well she might be, Lances girls were very strong willed.
“So,” she looked at him, “shall we talk about,” she wasn’t even sure how to even bring it up, but she wanted to know. “You’re blue,” she stated finally, “I was wondering why you were blue..”
“Great. I'm that old now huh?” Yondu huffed with a wry smile, his eyes crinkling at the edges, ironically showing his age. “Ahh, Peter was always a pain in my ass. Ever since he was knee high to a grasshopper.” Kraglin brushed up against Yondu suddenly, wanting his backside scratched. He obliged and a silence fell between them for a moment, filled in by the panting of the dog and squeals of children playing. Then Laurel asked the question he knew was coming.
“The Dreams.” He answered simply. “One day I was human, next thing I knew I woke up blue as the sky.” He then looked over at Laurel and whispered almost conspiratorially, “I'm an alien in the dreams.” And he winked because it didn't get any more obvious than being blue.
Laurel found herself chuckling softly, “I see,” she told him with a nod of her head, “It was shocking to see,” she admitted, “but mother bear in me kicked in and had to look for her,” her head nodded to her daughter who was running around the playground, “I guess it’s strange to know that whatever happens in your dreams will follow you into reality.” Laurel shook her head, worried about what could happen for her, for Olivia is she even dreamed...she doesn’t recall small kids dreaming so far. Pushing some hair out of her face, she let out a small sigh.
“I'm just grateful I didn't get slapped or somethin’ thrown at my head!” Yondu laughed. “But I get it. Wantin’ to make sure your little one's all right.” When Laurel fell silent Yondu filled in the silence with a question of his own.
“So what about you? You got any of these dreams with a capital D?”
“Not really,” she shrug, “it’s mainly been a repeat of my childhood here, just different places, like Gotham and Starling City, which I can’t seem to find on the map anywhere, but my sister having the same dreams, so I guess we are stuck together with our dreams as well.”
“Huh. Cities that don’t exist. Ain’t that somethin’.” He leaned back against the park bench, stretching his arms behind his head. “I got no idea if the places in my dreams exist here or not. It’s all in frickin’ outer space, way far away from here.” He gestured with a wave of his hand as he said it. “You got a sister here too? Dreamin’?”
“Yeah,” she nodded her head, “a younger sister,” she looked up at the sky, than back to where her daughter was playing, “we are both reliving the same dream, the same moments, things that happened here, happened there, just more extreme in the dreams.” She puffed out some air, “what can we do though?”
“Not much,” Yondu replied. “Just roll with it best we can.” He watched Olivia playing gleefully on the playset, oblivious to what the adults were going through. He almost envied her. There was something to be said of childhood innocence.
“She's a good kid. Wasn't scared of Kraglin none.” He ruffled the top of the dog's head and Kraglin laid his head on Yondu's lap, looking up at him for more head scratches. Yondu was silent a moment then said, “I don't mean to pry but I noticed you weren't too concerned about where her daddy was. I take it he's not in the picture?”
She shrug her shoulders, “thats long a story and he’s recently coming into the picture, we’ve texted, he’s fine.” Her eyes looked over at her daughter, “Oliva, we need to go.” She turned to look at her new friend, “we should get going, he’s going to swing by and pick her up.” She offered a small smile, “Figured be better for her not to be round with Peter and his new friend.” Laurel stood up, straighten her shirt and offered her daughter her hand, “Let's get you ready for Daddy!”
