Yondu Udonta was a man who liked his privacy. Ever since Peter had come to live with him, however, that had almost completely gone out the window. The only place of refuge he had left was his bedroom, where it was guaranteed he wouldn’t be bothered. But just in case, he made it a habit to lock the door, especially considering he could finally take off the image inducer that kept his true alien form hidden. While Peter had started dreaming, Yondu didn’t think it was time yet to reveal to him just how much the dreams could change a person. Literally.
He’d slept hard last night, having knocked back perhaps one too many beers. As he stirred - muscles all relaxed, mind still heavy with sleep but thankfully without much of a hangover - he was in a surprisingly good mood, and started to think about what he wanted to do today. Being a bounty hunter meant flexible hours, and he’d decided he’d take today off.
Stretching his arms wide with an equally as big yawn, his hand hit the last thing he expected.
Another person.
“What the…!” he started, sitting straight up in shock. Next to him was a pretty brunette that he was positive he hadn’t gone to bed with. Which was actually a shame, because wow. He sat there, wordless - for once - and staring. He looked around wildly, as if to see if Peter had managed to pull a fast one on him with some other crazy female friend he had from the internet, but thought even for him this was over the top and bizarre.
Between work and a toddler, Laurel didn't have time to sleep in, she was always on the go. However, for some reason, she hadn't wondered why the alarm went off and was in a deep sleep when Yondu first spoke. However, when the mattress shifted that awakened her some, she didn't open her eyes as she rolled over groaning out, "Livia, lay down with Mommy," thinking it was her daughter who climbed in bed with her. She was answered with silence and no movement, Laurel fluttered her eyes to see where her daughter was, only to see a blue man sitting beside her.
Her eyes drifted shut and then suddenly she sat up, her eyes blinking furiously, "what the hell," she breathed out, looking around, she was not in her house and where the hell is her daughter and who is this man! Scrambling out of the bed, she looked around, "Where I am? Where's my daughter?" she had no idea what was going on, but she was freaking out for a moment.
Taking in a deep breath, she finally looked truly at Yondu, "How are you blue?" she asked in confusion "Where is my daughter and how did I get here?" A lot of questions, but she was trying to processes this.
Well at least she wasn't immediately accusing him of kidnapping her. Or freaking out too much that he was blue…
He was blue! She could see his true form! “Shit!” His eyes grew wide as he swore and lunged for the nightstand next to the bed. His hand knocked the image inducer to the ground and he reached down - awkwardly as he was trying not to get out of the bed seeing as the only thing he had on were boxer briefs - fingers grabbing the edge of it. He hastily put it on his wrist and turned it on. His blue visage was quickly replaced by his former human one.
“Sorry 'bout that. You kinda caught me off guard here.” He drawled, offering a sheepish smile. Seeing how she was still panicked and remembering she mentioned a kid, Yondu frowned a little. “I dunno how you got here, miss. Must be the OC doin’ its shit again.” He chose not to answer her question about being blue for the moment and moved to get out of bed but remembered his state of undress. “Um. You mind a moment? I gotta get some pants. No sense in makin’ this more awkward with you seein’ me in my undies.”
Him switching the device on, she blinked and then blinked again, she’s seen him before...did he would with Dad? “Ugh, this town,” she groaned and nodded her head, turning around to give him some privacy. Her own hands moved to straighten out her tank top, “I’m Laurel Lance,” she informed him, “I...recall going to sleep in my own bed, my daughter was laying with me. I need to find her.”
She started to pat down her pant, just seeing if perhaps her phone was on her, “I really need to find her,” she was starting to freak out, Olivia was her world and now she was missing, “Do you have a phone I can use, see if she’s at home with my sister.”
Her non-plussed reaction meant to Yondu that she was one of the Dreamers and one that was used to the crazy. That was good. Would make things easier to deal with.
“I’m Yondu and don’t worry, we'll find her.” He reassured her as he pulled his sweatpants on. “I'm good now. Here.” And once she was facing him he tossed her his cell phone. He then rummaged in a drawer for a clean shirt. Finding his old police shirt from Missouri he pulled that one on.
Turning she caught the phone, she adapted quickly to situations and would freak out later, her mama bear instincts were in full swing, “thank, going to go into the other room.” She started to dial before she was out of the room, once she was two steps up, she looked up, saw her daughter, relief filled her sense, before suddenly she was shot back into the room she just came out of.
Laurel screamed, she couldn’t help it, she was caught off guard as she was slam back onto the bedroom and crashed right into Yondu. She was panting, trying to catch her breath, but than Livia started to cry, which made her scramble, “It’s okay, Livia,” she called out as she tried to stand, blinking to headache that was starting to happen.
Yondu for his part had thought it fine to give her her privacy and had barely taken a step when he felt an intense tug - like an invisible rope around his waist has just been yanked. Before he knew what was happening, the woman was flying through his doorway and he towards her until they both collided, he saw stars, and they both tumbled in a heap. Stunned, Yondu groaned and swore in alien under his breath. “Well this just gets better.” He added before struggling to his feet. He heard Kraglin bark with alarm and the crying of a child. Yondu held a hand out to Laurel, who looked as stunned as he did. “You all right, Laurel?”
“Yea,” she took his hand as she got up, “this is very strange,” she breathed out, shaking her head, “like...what just happened?!” But Olivia crying made her go to the door, than she paused, “can you please walk with me so I can do it her,” it was the only thing she could think of or call her daughter to them, “Livia, mommy coming, it’s okay.”
She stepped slowly to the door, unsure if really she was going to be yank back into the room, “It’s okay,” she assured her daughter, than motion for Livia to come to her when she was in the doorway. A little girl ran to her mom, clutching on to Laurel’s leg till Laurel was able to pick her up and press the little girl into her body cuddling her to calm down.
“Hell if I know,” Yondu replied. He nodded when asked to follow her and watched as the little girl ran into her mother's arms. He saw the bewildered look on Kraglin's face. “It's okay, boy. They're friends.” He smiled down at the reunited mother and daughter. “S'cuse me but I gotta check on my...tenant.” He really didn't have a word for what Peter was at this point. Surrogate son? Ward? Pain in the ass?
Squeezing by the two he paused, remembering the tug. “Um. Mind if you tag along? Sorry. Just gotta check of he's all right.”
Laurel nodded her head as she hugged her daughter and than followed in suit behind him. Laurel let out a soft sigh and was mummering to Livia calming her down as they walked the house. She looked around, taking in the scenery, and wondering what the hell was going on and how long it will last.
Yondu was wondering the same as they crossed the house to Peter's room. Yondu got close to the door and rapped his knuckles on the wood. “Quill! You there, boy? You got company you weren't plannin’ on by chance?”
For once, Peter was grateful for Yondu's voice. Katherine was hot and all, but she was an angry kind of hot and he already had Evie pissing him off enough. Plus, katherine didn't like his bed which Peter really didn't understand. He'd always wanted a waterbed and now he had one. Life was amazing!
"Oh shit," he cried out, "it's the old man." and then he realized what Yondu had said about company. Raising his brows at Katherine, he walked to the door and swung it open.
The last thing he was expecting was to see a small child. At least she came with a mom, which Peter was thankful for. "Oh. Heh. You got an inst-family, Yondu. Now you don't need me anymore." This was followed by a chuckle, and Peter stepped back from the door. "This is Katherine. Katherine, this is Yondu. It is by his grace that we are gathered here today and allowed to breathe the air." A pause. "But careful, he might charge."
His old man? What the hell, was Peter twelve? She snorted to his words, she went to sit back on the bed, but honestly, his bed was horrible and she stayed standing. When she was introduced, she gave a little wave, annoyed with this whole situation, "Right," she said as she looked at everyone, "I should find my stuff and go,"
She honestly didn't want to be there anymore, plus if she showed up in someone else's bed and not aware why, she needed to find out if her siblings are alright as well.
“Please do,” Peter said, rolling his eyes. “Four’s like a square or something. Or four a half. The kid seems too tiny to be a full person anyways.” She did make a good point though -- where were her things? The blonde brought a kid, and Katherine couldn't even bring a spare change of clothes?
Yondu's eyes narrowed at Peter's sass. Whatever good mood he had been in was quickly evaporating. “Knock it off with the smartass routine. Ain't the time for it.” Yondu pointed at him. He watched as Katherine made as if she were going to leave the room. “Uh, I wouldn't go too far if I was you. Found out the hard way you'll get yanked back like there's some sorta invisible leash.”
Katherine looked at him, rolled her eyes and marched pass the woman carrying a child. “Sure,” she muttered as slid by them. She didn’t notice how Laurel moved into the room to get out of the way and as soon as she was two steps out, she was shoot back in, smacking right into Peter.
The unexpected force threw Peter back, and he managed to instinctively wrap his arms around Katherine before the two of them went flying into the wall.
A rather loud crack, and Peter was seeing stars. The closet door was hanging off its frame and Peter was left wondering now what the fuck was going on.
From the look on Yondu's face, Peter wondered if the old man knew more than he let on. "This is going to be one shitty weekend," he grumbled to himself before looking up. Oh right -- kid. "Um. I mean one..crappy weekend. I can say crappy in front of the kid, right?"
Laurel's eyes widen, actually seeing the force in action and not being the one who slams into the other was unreal to see. "Are you two alright?" she asked instantly as she shifted Olivia to the other side of her hip, but when Peter cursed, she grimaced, but offered a smile when he changed his wording and nodded her head. "Do you need help getting up?" she asked, looking around to figure out where to sit Olivia to help them.
Grateful that he caught her, Katherine groaned as she looked at him, "thanks," she muttered as she shifted and hopped up, fixing the oversized shirt, "Okay," she sighed, rubbed her face, "what do we do now?"
Yondu had to admit the rubberband effect looked even more painful than actually going through it. All the same, he had an annoyed "told you so" look on his face and didn't bother moving a muscle to help anyone. If you're gonna be stubborn and not listen, he wasn't gonna feel sorry for you.
"Suppose I gotta rustle up some grub for four folks now," then seeing Olivia he corrected himself. "I mean five." He nodded to Laurel for her to follow him. Just outside the door Kraglin was quietly lingering, confused as to all the new people. "It's okay boy, get the feelin' they're gonna be here a while." He said, petting the dog's head.
