Being back in Paris was extremely relaxing to Finn. In a way it almost felt like he had never left and had quickly fallen back into the lifestyle he had been used to while living there. Speaking French felt as natural as breathing, not that he did much of that these days of course, but the expression still held true.
Getting away for the holidays had been an exceptional idea and he had been enjoying every minute of it. Of course traveling as a vampire was a little different than traveling as a human, but so far they hadn’t had any major problems.
Having decided to spend a day doing whatever they each wanted, Finn and Elijah had decided to stop into a cafe near where they were staying before taking a stroll around the area.
***
Elijah easily undid his jacket button as he sat, ordering a cafe au lait and a croissant in fluent French, smiling as he took in the very atmosphere of being in Paris. It was the first time he’d been back as a vampire and while he’d found it pleasant before it was even more amazing now that he noticed so much.
“I’m glad everyone agreed that this family vacation was worth our while,” he advised, looking back to his brother as their orders arrived. “Have you considered what you wish to do today? It’s quite lovely weather. Perhaps a stroll through the Jardin du Luxembourg?”
**
Finn felt the same way Elijah did. There were so many little things that one noticed when their senses were heightened that they wouldn’t have before and Finn was glad that Paris had been the vacation destination that they had chosen.
“I think that sounds like a fine idea,” Finn said as he took a sip of his coffee. There were many things he’d missed about Paris and spending time in cafes, when he wasn’t working, was one of those things. “It’s too bad we don’t have more time here.” Finn would have to plan another trip back to Paris soon.
**
“It is,” Elijah admitted. “Perhaps Vienna and Paris in such a short span was a bit much but it takes so long to get to Europe that one must take advantage when possible.” See all that could be seen.
“But I think it has been a rather enjoyable vacation on the whole.”
**
Finn took another sip of his coffee and nodded, “Well then it’s a good thing that we have more than enough time to have longer vacations in the future.” It was still strange to think that they were all immortal now, with the exception of Freya, and that unless one of them met with the wrong end of a White Oak stake, they were going to have more than enough time to do more traveling, “And it certainly has been. I’ll be honest, I was afraid some infighting would arise, but I was surprised that everything has gone so smoothly.”
**
“I think everyone is more willing to make peace around the holidays,” Elijah answered with a half smile. “Yuletide greetings and good cheer to all. Somehow it seems worse to argue at this time of year than any other, though goodness knows we do it well enough,”
**
“That’s certainly a possibility.” If that were the case then if they went on another vacation did that mean there was more of a possibility of fighting between them since it wouldn’t be the holidays? Finn was honestly willing to test out that theory, because honestly, there were plenty of places they could go where they could simply go their separate ways for a time if any fighting did arise. “If fighting amongst one's siblings was an Olympic sport, it’s very possible that we might take the gold.”
**
“I think perhaps some royal families might narrowly edge us out.” The smile widened a hair more. “Those whose families were full of intrigue, planning to kill members of the family to gain the ultimate prize of a crown. I doubt we would stoop to that level.”
**
Finn chuckled, nodding, “You’ve got me there, brother.” He took another sip of his coffee and noticed that it was almost empty, “Well, if we want to have time for that stroll, we should probably get moving soon.” They still had some time before they needed to join up with their siblings, but Finn wanted to make sure they had enough time for anything else they might want to do that afternoon.
**
Elijah nodded, tipping back the remainder of his drink. “You’re absolutely right. We don’t want to waste the daylight hours sitting idly. There is far too much to be enjoyed in Paris. Besides which, Kol mentioned Disneyland at some point. I need to soak up as much culture as possible to stomach the place.”
