Who: Liv & Judy What: Girls Night Out! When: Some Friday night in May Where: Random Bar Rating: Low Status: Complete!
Judy wasn’t much for the social night scene, but she couldn’t pass out a night to hang with Liv. She had gotten to know the M.E. through a few cases, excited to meet someone that she worked well with. She found herself always volunteering to head down, just to be able to snag a few more minutes of girl chat before heading back to the department.
Tonight would be different. Judy tugged on her dress, feeling out of sorts in something other than her uniform. She wasn’t a very social type, but she was trying to change that. She had even been a bit nervous when she had asked Liv to meet up tonight! Silly, but it just didn’t feel like a natural thing for her to do.
She took a seat at the bar, placing her purse on it and looking around her, waiting for Liv to arrive.
Minus Clara, the majority of Liv’s friends were guys. Judy was a new friend and it would be nice to have a girl’s night out. Liv arrived at the bar spotting Judy right away. She made her way over to the empty stool next to Judy fighting the urge to take the other woman’s purse. Freaking kleptomaniac brain.
“Hey!” she greeted with a smile as she climbed onto the stool. “I hope you haven’t been here long.”
Judy smiled back, shaking her head. “No, not long at all! Just got here actually. Haven’t even placed an order!” Almost on cue, the bartender came over, asking them what they were having. Judy ordered a martini, nothing too big or fruity; she wasn’t a big drinker, but tonight was a special occasion!
Once Liv had ordered, she turned her attention back to her friend, the smile still on her face. “How was work today?” It was hard not to bring work up when they held such similar professions...at least ones that dealt with each other.
Liv ordered her usual jalapeno margarita. Spice was the only thing she could taste. Once her drink was ordered she turned her attention back to Judy. “Work was good. Got a victim of a gunshot.” Nothing too unusual there.
Judy’s eyebrows shot up at the order of a jalapeno margarita; she had never heard of such a thing! “Wow, that’s quite a drink order,” she commented, patting the bar. “Does it actually have jalapenos in it?” Judy didn’t question how strange their conversation might have seemed to someone that would be eavesdropping. She just nodded her head as if it were an everyday occurrence. “I feel like too many of those have been popping up,” she said with a shake of her head. “Then again, I can’t really keep track between real life things and weird dream things.”
“Yup,” Liv replied with a grin. “That’s how it gets so spicy.” If this friendship Judy kept growing she would soon learn that Liv only ate or drank spicy things. And maybe eventually she would tell Judy why. What she was, she had to be able to trust someone before she told them. Zombies weren’t exactly accepted in society. Even in Orange County.
“You get a lot of murders in your dreams too?” Liv asked with a raised brow as the bartender brought over their drinks.
Judy just nodded her head in understanding; hey, there were people that really liked spicy food! She had counted herself as one of them, but she had never thought to try a jalapeno margarita...she’d have to try it sometime!
She changed to shake her head at Liv’s next question. “No, thank goodness! At least not now.” She realized that could change as it felt like just the beginning of her dreams. She had recently gotten a small apartment in Zootopia and she was curious to see what her first assignment was going to be. “Do you?”
“Yeah,” Liv replied. “My dreams are all about solving murders.” At least one a dream. Sometimes more. “I’m a medical examiner in them too,” Liv explained. “For the PD, all the bodies are murders.” She lived in a city too. It wasn’t some small town where nothing happened.
Judy couldn’t help but laugh as their drinks came back to their table. “It seems we both dream of what we’re doing! Anything special about you?” Judy took a small sip of her drink, smiling as she felt it burn down her throat. They made ‘em strong here. “Did I tell you I’m a bunny in mine?”
Liv was contemplating how to answer Judy’s question. She didn’t exactly want to lie to Judy, but it was still early in their friendship to drop the zombie bomb. However once Judy said what she was all thoughts of answering her question had vanished. “A bunny?” Liv questioned. She knew people were other things in their dreams, like she was a zombie. But she hadn’t heard of being an animal. “Wha- how- how is that possible?”
Judy laughed at her response, shaking her head and giving a small shrug of her shoulders. “I dunno! I just do!” She was beginning to realize how much she didn’t feel how strange it was about what or how she dreamt; it wasn’t until she started to talk to other people that she realized it actually was a bit weird! “I mean, she’s even like me in some aspects! She moved to a big city to pursue her dream and is working for the police department! At least she’s going to be. I haven’t actually gotten to that part.”
“How do you know she’s going to be?” Liv asked with another sip of her drink. She certainly couldn’t imagine a bunny being on the police force here. Even in Orange County. Where almost all things were possible. “Are there like other animals on the force?” That was the only thing that made sense to Liv.
“She graduated, top of her class,” she said, a bit proudly. It was strange to talk about yourself, but your dream self in such a manner. She knew it was kinda like her, but not enough for her to feel like she was gloating...even if she was. “My last dream had her moving into her new apartment and her first day on the job will hopefully be my next dream!” At least that’s the order it seemed to be going in. “I’ll keep you updated on other animals though,” she said with a wink. “But when she got to Zootopia, there were all SORTS of animals walking around! No humans at all though.”
Liv couldn’t help but smile at how proud Judy was of her dreamself. It didn’t surprise Liv at all that Judy had graduated at the top of her class. Even if she was a bunny. In a place called Zootopia apparently. “Well with a name like that, I’m a little less surprised about the animal thing.” Even if it was still Liv’s first time hearing about people dreaming about being an animal. But if she was a zombie both in dreams and here anything was possible right? Oh god did that mean eventually Judy would turn into a bunny? Liv shook that thought from her head taking another sip of her drink. “I’m sure she’ll do great at the PD. At least if she’s anything like you.”
Judy couldn’t help but smile at the compliment, taking another sip and of her drink. “And what about you? What do you dream about?” This was probably the most interesting part when talking with people from the network; Judy LOVED hearing about their dreams.
“Not so different than here. I’m an assistant medical examiner and I help solve crimes,” a brief pause as she took another sip of her drink - considering her next words carefully. “Sometimes I get visions that help out.” While she wasn’t ready to admit she was a zombie, in either place, visions was an okay place to start. Leon had known about her visions for awhile before he knew what she was after all.
Well that was cool! Judy raised her eyebrows over her drink, setting it back down. “That’s pretty cool!” Superpowers, abilities, whatever you wanted to call them, Judy knew it was possible with the dreams. It was hard to explain here, but she was grateful for her position and being able to help anyone out that might have something come up. “It’s amazing to me how much our dreams can match up to our own lives with a little twist here and there!” She finished her drink, pushing it off to the side.
“What kind of visions do you get?”
“Amazing and strange,” Liv agreed. Sometimes it was even eery how much they were like her real life. At least her early dreams. Now all she had in common with them was her profession and the whole zombie thing. “Oh, usually about whatever case I am working. Sometimes about the murder itself, but it’s mostly just about the victim. Their life.”
Judy shuddered a little, giving her friend an apologetic look. “Sorry, I can just imagine that that might be a bit dark at times. Hopefully nothing too bad?” It seemed that many people had terrible dreams, but Judy hoped Liv wasn’t included in that list. “I guess it just depends on the person, right?” Although anything to do with murder always made it a bit messy...literally.
“Not really. I never see the actual murder.” That would definitely be dark. “It’s more just their life with clues to who the killer might be. It actually comes in handy,” she paused taking a sip of her drink. “But enough about death and work and dreams, let’s have some fun!”
Judy could definitely agree with that last sentiment. Sometimes the dreams got to be too much and this was a night to forget all those complications! Judy held her glass out to cheers, grinning as she did so. “To fun!”
