Izzy had prepared a variety of baked goods for Katou, with extra chocolate, hoping to help him take the edge off his withdrawal with some sweet treats. She’d made sure to pack them in airtight containers so they’d keep well for a few days too. Just in case he was in a stage of not having much of an appetite yet. He’d come so far from when they first met and she was so proud of him, Izzy was determined to help him in any way she could.
Knocking on the door she waited, hoping it wasn’t a bad time.
Katou was doing… well, better than he had been even a few days ago. The shaking and the vomiting had passed at least. He was still queasy, his hair still matted to his head with sweat, and heavy bags were under his eyes, but he at least felt well enough to convince Kanan and Carolina to let him deal with the rest of it on his own.
He hadn’t been expecting anyone to knock on the door, and he considered just ignoring it. Really, all he wanted to do was curl up and watch some bad movies. But after a couple of moments, he braced himself, got up, and made his way to the door.
“Hey,” he said, a little surprised to see Izzy there. Surprised and embarrassed and a little bit pleased.
“Hey you” Izzy told him with a smile, “I brought things that I hope will help you feel a bit better” she told him holding up the bag before giving him a hug he had no chance of escaping, “How are you doing?” she asked, looking him over. She noticed the hair and the tired eyes of course but that didn’t tell her everything. She wanted to hear it from him.
Katou reluctantly returned the hug, trying not to get too emotional. He didn’t know why everyone was still putting up with him and all his shit. “I’m just fucking ducky,” he said, his voice laced with sarcasm, leading her into the house and closing the door behind her. “I mean, at least I’m done throwing up.” That was something, at least. And he wasn’t sleeping on the cold porcelain of the bathtub anymore either. There’d been a few days where he realized that really was the best place for him.
Izzy punched his arm at the sarcastic reply, though it wasn’t really hard. Not yet, he needed to recover a little first. “Well I’m glad to hear that since I brought you things to eat, but they’ll keep for a while in the tubs I brought them in” she assured him. “Are you drinking enough? You need to make sure you don’t get dehydrated, especially when you’ve been throwing up so much”
Katou eyed the food warily for a moment. He wasn’t sure how much he was up for eating, but as if to answer his own internal question, his stomach grumbled loudly. “Well, guess it wouldn’t hurt to eat something,” he muttered. He nodded a little. “I mean, probably. I drink sometimes.” He’d had a few beers that morning, the cans still on the coffee table in the living room. That was probably good enough.
“Try a little, don’t weigh down your stomach too much” Izzy advised frowning when he said he drank sometimes, “Let’s get a nice glass of water for you too then. Hydration is very important right now for you” Okay so she was maybe being a little mother hen like but Katou was a treasured friend which meant she would fuss and worry over him.
Katou scowled a little at the babying, but he didn’t say anything. After all, she was just trying to help. And, if he was being honest with himself, it was nice to have someone who had an eye out for him. He’d found himself missing Wendy quite a bit over the last few months.
“You know where the glasses are,” he grumbled instead after a moment, already taking the containers of food that Izzy had brought him and looking through them. He could definitely go for something extra chocolately right now.
Izzy grinned and ruffled his hair with a smile, “I nag because I love you” she told him as she went to get a glass of water for him to drink. He'd find that there was plenty of chocolatey goodies in the containers. Izzy knew her way to Katou’s sweet tooth.
Katou lightly batted her hand away, but she managed to elicit a small smile. He managed to find a container of double chocolate brownies, and immediately tore into it, a pleased noise escaping his throat as he bit into it. His mouth watered as he bit into it, and in a couple of seconds he’d managed to cram the whole thing in his mouth. “If that means I get more treats, love me all you want,” Katou said, though the words were nearly indistinguishable as he spoke around the brownie.
Seeing that smile brightened Izzy’s own, which turned into a smirk when he dug into the food. “I think I got that” she teased him, pushing the water closer, “Drink before you devour another one” She was glad to see him with a good appetite though, it was reassuring to see. She knew it would be a difficult path to recovery but she was determined to help him as much as she could.
Katou took the water and gulped it down. “You didn’t have to do none of this,” Katou said, grabbing another brownie, though this one he ate more slowly. “I mean, love me or not, I fucked up.”
“Everybody fucks up” Izzy said, “Doesn't mean I'm gonna turn my back on you. You're my friend and I've seen you go through a lot. If I can help you through this then I will. I'll always be here for you, there's no getting rid of me now” she gave him a smile. Izzy was fiercely loyal to her friends and Katou had been a friend for a long time.
“Like herpes,” Katou muttered, though the smirk at the corner of his mouth belayed his words. By way of thanks, he drapped his arm around her shoulder and gave her a bit of a half hug.
Izzy snorted, “Exactly like herpes” she told him, her own arm snaking around his waist to give him a squeeze.
